Open Question: Can Anybody make a translation for me in THAI, or make a phone call for me in THAI?

I left my purse at a restaurant in hollywood. there's not cash or anything in it so i don't think the people that work there would want to keep it. but the thing is that I need to ask them in thai if they have my purse, unfortunately nobody there speaks english. :/ please respond ASAP.I NEED A TRANSLATOR, googletranslator and all those other website translators cannot translate in thai for me. pleaseeeeeee. more

Open Question: Japanese translation- I want thai fried rice with chicken, extra hot and spicy, light cashews?

Little background: I go to this restaurant where they have amazing food but the waitresses there don't understand too much English. They always bring the wrong stuff. When I tell them light cashews they don't put cashews. When I say extra hot and spicy it's not hot at all. I really like this food so I'm thinking that next time I go over there I just give them a piece of paper with the Japanese translation of what I want so they do it right. I don't want to be rude or anything but I've tried everything. This is my last resort. So, please help me. And I always order the same exact thing so I can use this every single time... They do have the worst customer service. You'd think they'll know what I'm going to order after going there for 2 years asking the same thing. Anyway, here's what I need translated. Translation: Option 1 (for me): I want 1 fried Thai rice with chicken, extra extra hot and spicy, with light cashews and extra pinnapple. Option 2 (for hubby): I want 1 Thai fried rice with shrimp, extra extra hot and spicy. I put extra twice because I don't think they believe it when I say extra hot and spicy. Maybe saying it twice will do the trick. Thank you very much!!!! more

Resolved Question: Is there a quick way to cook Thai black sticky rice?

My mother bought 10 pounds (yes, 10 lbs) of Thai black sticky rice and attempted to cook it as brown rice. Needless to say, it didn't work. It was gooey. I've looked up recipes online on how to cook it and everything I've found deals with a cheese cloth and soaking the rice for hours before even cooking (and I think you need steaming equipment and so forth). Is there a way to cook this stuff quickly that isn't as involved as what I've found? Or is this a situation of get what you need and spend the day cooking the rice? Maybe I should donate it to our local Thai restaurant in exchange for cooked black sticky rice? LOL Just a thought! Thanks! more

Resolved Question: Thai Cuisine Question?

We found this Thai restaurant and the food is excellent..... but we know nothing of the food. The closest thing we have around here is Chinese food. The guy taking my order snuffed me when I said "egg rolls" instead of spring rolls. I'm not interested in impressing the "waiter" (:P) but the quality of the food really has us wanting to know more. Specifically, what's a Common dish that's Thai. I admit that us down here in South East Texas live so far out, if the world ended tomorrow, we wouldn't hear about it till next week. So be easy with your comments. I mean we eat the mud bugs that come out of the ground, call'em Crayfish. You can believe me there is no fish and lots of Cray... what ever "cray" is? Although not to be taken light of, I can also drive one hour South with a Castnet and fishing pole and have a fresh broiled flounder, stuffed with shrimp and crab meat that very night. So, by now you understand our stupidity but respect us down here enough to answer gingerly. Thank y'all a bunch more

Resolved Question: Are the INS, FBI, and China delivery persons in cahoots?

I get Chinese food delivered several times a day, but I get nervous. Do Chinese restaurants (or Thai or Mexican or Pizza or whatever) cut deals with the INS and FBI? Say I have guns, drugs, and or firearms in plain sight in my doorway. Do you think the deliverymen take note and report the authorities? Does the FBI crack down on illegal things and notify INS to take it easy? more

Resolved Question: Would you have tipped in this situation?

A couple of weeks ago me and my two friends went to a Thai restaurant that has recently opened up in our town. The service was really bad. The staff were nice enough but they didn’t serve us properly. When we went to order our meal, we couldn't understand the menu pricing and the lady who was serving us did a really bad job of explain it so we ended up just ordering what we thought would be enough for all of us. When our food came out, we only received half of it, about 10 minutes later the rest of it was brought out. We weren't able to get any drinks except for the water that was already there because were no waiters hanging about in the dining part of the restaurant (it seemed that everyone was in the kitchen.) By the end of the meal we were pretty pissed off, and ended up just dumping the money on the table and walking out. We gave them a 5 dollar tip (Meal cost us $80) because we felt bad for them, it seemed like the restaurant was kinda broke. As we got up, the owner of the place walked over to the table and picked up the money and our bill and looked really pissed off. He glared at us and gave us an evil face. Do you think that only tipping them $5 was the right thing to do? What would you have done? more

Resolved Question: Why are illegals getting very little prison time for what authorities described as a long-running immigration?

judge sentenced the owner of the Thai Ginger restaurant chain, Issaquah resident Varee Bradford, to six months in prison Friday for her role in what authorities described as a long-running immigration scam. Bradford, 44, recruited U.S. citizens to enter sham marriages with Thai citizens in order for the immigrants to obtain legal status to stay in the United States. She pleaded guilty last October to conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and three counts of fraud relating to immigration documents. Agents arrested Bradford for the immigration scheme last June at her Issaquah home. “You used your money and position to circumvent the law,” U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo S. Martinez told Bradford during the sentencing hearing. “This mocks the efforts of immigrants who work hard and wait years to obtain citizenship.” Thai Ginger operates restaurants in Klahanie, Bellevue, Redmond and Seattle. Authorities said Bradford offered male and female employees up to $25,000 to enter sham marriages with her Thai relatives for immigration purposes. Bradford and a former restaurant employee were charged with crimes stemming from four instances from 2001 to 2007 in which marriages were set up between Thai Ginger employees and her relatives. The former employee, Porramin Tangchaiwanna, pleaded guilty a single count of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and was sentenced to four months in jail last year. The marriage scheme unraveled when Bradford and Tangchaiwanna met an undercover federal immigrant agent in February 2008 at one of Bradford’s Seattle restaurants. Bradford introduced the agent to a woman and said would pay the agent $20,000 to marry the woman. http://www.issaquahpress.com/2010/02/19/thai-ginger-owner-sentenced-for-immigration-scheme/ Why are illegals getting very little prison time for what authorities described as a long-running immigration scam ? more

Resolved Question: Did you guys do anything special for Valentine's Day?

I'm only 13, so I think I'm kind of young to have a major boyfriend. I mean, sure, the girls in our grade go out but only at school. So anyways, did you do anything special? I'm a pretty okay cook so I made my parents pad Thai, mint with peas, and a heart shaped homemade vanilla cake. Then I made it like a restaurant, I brought out a small table and lit a candle and made menus and stuff. So...what did you guys do? :)Wow, I feel so terrible for you guys who didn't have a very good day! :( more

Resolved Question: What is the difference between Chinese and Thai food?

I have a really good Chinese restaurant down the road from my apt. and I really like going there. I've never eaten Thai food, but they just opened a new Thai restaurant a little closer. I know there are differences. I don't mean for this to sound as stupid as it's coming out, but I want to know what the major differences are between the two cuisines. Does Thai have more rice and veggies or are they more meat-heavy, do they tend toward spicier flavors? That kind of thing. I know short of eating the original thing in it's own country, all we're getting is a pale imitation of the actual cuisine. Add on top of that the fact that I live in Texas and there's a whole new realm of East meets Mexican going on... more

Resolved Question: Thai song with English lyrics: "I love you and you love me" and something "marry me"?

The lyrics (in English) are "I love you and you love me" and possibly "would you like to marry me" or something that ends with "marry me"? It's definitely sung in a thick accent though, I'm assuming it's a Thai song because of the restaurant. Please note: this is a THAI song sung in a strong accent. Resolved Question: What makes Thai food so spicy?

Resolved Question: Special meal for my girlfriend?

I'm thinking of making a special meal for a one year anniversary with my girlfriend. I'm looking for suggestions for a main or entree and main. For the main, i was considering french or chinese style duck (as she tried that once at a restaurant and liked it. (i don't know what i'd put with it, yet, though) or buttered chicken, as when ever we go to thai restaurants, she orders that (though since she orders it every time we go out to a thai restraunt. [not awfully often all the same] That gives me an inclination to not make that as I'd like it to be something special, and not something she has all the time. She loves chicken, and chicken korma but she has chicken korma reasonably often. Of what comes to mind, she dislikes seafood, mushrooms, olives, mango, strawberries, zucchini, pumpkin, broccoli, cauliflower. I have desert pretty figured out already..i'm thinking pannacotta or chocolate mouse with some fresh made cream, creme en glaze or some blue ribbon ice cream. For the table setting, i was thinking of being rather clich'e with candles and rose petals if i can manage it. Any recipies for something special? Bonus points if you help me with time management for the meal. Also forgot to mention that i she isn't a fan of hot food and dislikes mushrooms as well. (yes she dislikes a lot of food doesn't she? lol) She would notice the difference i think. She's an apprentice chef. I don't think she'd mind though, as i think it's the thought that will matter most to her. I frankly i don't think she'd care what i made, though I'd like to make something nice for her all the same, and do most everything myself. (As opposed to using pre-made sauces etc.) I do own some cook books (common sense cookery books 1, 2 and a book of mince recipies) Common sense cookery book 2 (which concentrates more on recipies from different countries) does have a chinese style duck recipie, though i was considering on a french style. I could make the chinese version, though. If i made duck, i'd planned to either do a whole duck and carve it or section it and do it seperately. As it's just the two of us, perhaps some breast fillets might be the go, though, if i go duck. more

Resolved Question: Recipe for wide rice noodles?

So I put a post up recently about the wide fresh noodles you get at Thai restaurants and where to buy them. I went to a lot of asian stores but I can only get them dried and they are thinner and they are never as tasty. SO-if anyone knows how to make these noodles can you post the recipe and steps-i know you can google it but if you have personally made them yourself and know little tricks and tips that would be even better. I know it's a hard process but I have the time and the patience. thanks!they are called Kway Teow noodles i believe!I actually found a youtube video with step by step instructions on how to make the noodles. I went to the asian store and they told me that they don't sell them fresh-you just have to make them yourself. It's a fairly easy process all you need is a steamer. basically you cook rice, blend it till it is a paste, then mix it with water and then steam it in a cake pan for five minutes and pull the noodle slowly out and cut it to you desired shape. i can't wait to try it im so excited! more

Resolved Question: Restaurant in Central London?

I am trying to find a nice restaurant to take my boyfriend to for his 21st birthday. I am preferably looking for either a Thai/Pan Asian restaurant (we love Gilgamesh but want to try something new) or an American place (like Hard Rock, but you can't book there). It doesnt have to be either of those, so any of your suggestions will be much appreciated. Money isn't too much of issue, akthough don't really want to spend more than £100 a head! Voting Question: Restaurant leaky fridge damaged my bag. What to do?

I had lunch today in one of those little Thai restaurants where there is no extra room whatsoever. Usually I would put my bag on a spare chair, but there were none, so I put it on the floor next to me. Halfway through our lunch, someone realised that the fridge (directly behind us) was leaking, and there was a large puddle on the floor. My one-month-old leather bag had a dark water stain on about 1/3 of its surface area. I have since attempted to dry it and make it look normal again, but despite my efforts (rubbing extra water on the top to "fade" the stain in, and patting dry and putting it near a fan to dry, the affected leather (usually soft buttery leather) feels extremely rough and hard and the stain is visible, though it is not too bad. The restaurant admits fault, but when they see the less than expected amount of damage I don't know what is reasonable to ask for. They seemed to be prepared to refund the bag but I didn't have the receipt with me, plus I really like it. Should I just suck it up and deal with it?They said to come back tomorrow and we would talk about it. Providing the manager is honest, it shouldn't be a problem. The restaurant is struggling a bit in an area near uni and me being extremely unhappy could have an effect on their business in terms of word of mouth. What I want to know is - basically the bag is OK ie usable, but the leather has been damaged by the water. I'm not very happy, should I ask them for a percentage of the price back or something? Is that reasonable? more

Resolved Question: Help with Thai food please! Salad with a sweet/sour light green sauce? Calories?

I was able to find the calorie count for all the other food I ate at a Thai restaurant today, but the salad was not part of the order (it was brought while we waited) so I don't even know what it was called. It was various leafy vegetables covered in a thin (watery) light green sauce that was sour/sweet (more sour than sweet). Any ideas what this was, and how many calories it might have had (about 2 teaspoons, I guess)? more

Resolved Question: Eating out tonight at a Thai restaurant. On a diet. HELP!?

I LOVE Thai food and tonight my family is going to a Thai restaurant. I picked out some of the things that I can choose between. My favorite dish is Panang curry, so can anybody tell me how bad it is? Panang Thai basil, peas, green and red peppers in a special Panang sauce. A fine blend of dried chili, lemon grass, shallot, garlic, galanga, kaffir lime leaves and coconut milk. Angkor Healthy soup (original khmer soup) Homemade broth with chicken breast enhanced by a smoked fish imported from Cambodia with a taste of lemon grass blending well with fresh baby spinach, squash, zucchini, straw mushrooms and taro root. Angkor Salad With marinated and grilled beef flank steak. A mix of fresh lettuce, red, yellow and green peppers, sweet red and vidalla onions, fresh bean sprouts, basil and mint leaves, galanga, lemon grass, lime rind, roasted peanuts with sauce Bei Moarn Steamed chicken and flavored chef sauce. Finished with cucumber, lettuce and served with pineapple sauce and rice. Again, I would most like to get the panang, and maybe the soup with my meal, but those are some options. How unhealthy do you think the panang is, and what do you think is the best option? Thank you so much! more
