Open Question: how do you make an Italian sausage and red sauce dish?

Okay, i know absolutely nothing about cooking...NOTHING (20 something single guy in college BTW) but I have 2 sausage links in the fridge and I don't feel like frying them. I really like this dish at olive garden where its just 2 sausage links and a red sauce and some pasta. I think its marinara sauce because its really light yet flavorful, i don't like a really chunky sauce. and I heard that the way restaurants cook sausage is that they bake it. How is this done can I have a link to a recipe. more

Open Question: applebees oriental chicken salad?

I am trying to find out the recipe for the actual salad dressing used in Applebee’s Oriental Chicken Salad. NOT the copycat version ... NOT the one that “tastes just like” ... NOT the one someone’s mother-in-law dreamed up ... but the **real actual* recipe for this dressing. **PLEASE** do NOT post back with the one that is all over the internet currently (the one that includes Dijon mustard etc) unless you know it is the specific recipe BECAUSE YOU WORKED AT APPLEBEES. Open Question: The GI Diet...Any Good Any Advice Recipes?

I have heard about the G I Diet and wondered if people could give their experiences and the odd recipe? Firstly I am single and live on my own so I don't want to be stuck in the kitchen all the time. I know a girl who went on this diet and lost quite a bit of weight. And when I asked her about this she told me that it was hard work but it was worth it. It seems to be a logical diet, that being gives a slow release of sugar into the bloodstream hence no picking between meals. If anyone has tried this then could you advise on what types of food you used/recipes. One thing I can vouch for was a few years ago I went absolutely mad on tinned tomatoes on toast; and i lost weight. There is a mention in the book that it is low G I. Any advice or better still basic recipes will be very welcome! Thanks. more

Open Question: Recipe for leftover sugar syrup (from candied grapefruit peel)?

I made a batch of sugar syrup for candying grapefruit peels, and this syrup is the most delicious stuff ever! It's not too sweet, has a yummy citrus freshness and some vanilla essence added. Open Question: How can I make my own blend of Aromatic Potpourri (the herbal incense alternative)?

My state has made herbal incense illegal now. Now the new thing slowly hitting stores is Aromatic Potpourri. It doesn't violate any of the laws that were banned on herbal incense. I am having a hard time finding out how or where to find recipe's or tips of creating my own Aromatic Potpourri. Aromatic Potpourri doesn't contain JWH18, or any other similar herbal incense chemicals. The back of the package says "A exotic custom blend of aromatic spices, herbs, and extracts, releasing a warm sensual aroma when burned. May contain wild lettuce, red clover, basil, spearmint, peppermint, chamomile flower, hops, strawberry leaves, and patchouli leaves. May be used as potpourri or sachet." I see the ingredience listed, but it's not a recipe. Can anybody point me in the right direction of a good recipe, or tips on creating my own recipe that will still do the same job?BTW, I'm referring to a recipe that is similar to a weed high, not just something that you smell in the air. more

Open Question: Does anyone use a recipe/cookbook software? One that comes with a disk and you can add your...?

...own recipes also? What do you like about it also the cons? Is it easy to use and add your own recipes too it? That is what I am looking for is a recipe software that I can add my own 'scraps of recipe papers' too and possibly make a cookbook of all of them.I use allrecipes and I also use Rachael Rays website and recipes. But I find that sometimes it is hard to find something I have used before in online sites since I use more than one site. I am thinking of one to buy from a store and put on my computer then I can transfer if necessary to another one later in case I don't have internet available, also is a reason. I have had one suggestion for 'Now Your Cooking' but that one seems too much like Master Cook and I did not like that, I found it too frustrating and difficult to use. I have it.Would love to hear what you have done with all your 'favorite family recipes' and how you keep them organized to find quickly. I am trying to get better organized so need some help! I am using Windows XP now more

Open Question: What favorite dessert will u be making for holiday weekend? Plz share the recipe if you have time :)?

My favorite is oreo cookie dessert. 1- package 8 oz cream cheese- soft 1- 8 oz tub of cool whip 1 big box or 2 small boxes of chocolate instant pudding 1- package of oreo cookies In a 9 x12 glass pan...spread the cream cheese to cover the bottom of glass pan. Take 5 oreo cookies out of package and set aside for garnish. Take rest of oreo cookies and crush them. Wifey uses a rolling pin to crush em...I just take the package and squeeze and crush em in there so it's not so messy. Dump the crushed oreo cookies all over the cream cheese to create a second layer. Then make the chocolate instant pudding. Follow directions on box. Dump the chocolate pudding over the oreo cookies. Making a 3rd layer. Then take the cool whip and dump the entire container on top of the chocolate pudding. creating a 4th layer. Take the 5 cookies u set aside and crush them well. Sprinkle over top of the cool whip. Makes a nice garnish. Chill for 2 hrs. You can double the recipe if you like. I promise you your guest will want 3rd's and 4th serving of this amazing dessert that is oh so yummy!!! Enjoy and have a happy and Safe Labor Day weekend. Plz share your favorite dessert recipes if you have the time to share them :) more

Open Question: What are Syns? Original Syns, Smart Syns, Free Syns and Green Syns?

Hi, I have just bought two great books by Slimming World. The first, "Food Glorious Food" which is packed full of fabulous recipes from around the world. The second, "Food Directory" which tells you what food syns they contain. The problem is; none of these books explain what Syns actually are; Original, Smart, Free and Green. I know that Slimming World wants us all to go online and become paid members, which I would not have a problem with. Except, I now live in Germany and cannot join a local group meeting, as I speak very little German as yet. Nor do I have access to a computer. I must take a train to the nearest town and use the computer from their local library. (Which is actually what I am doing right now). What I need to know is how these Syns are worked out and how many Syns I am allowed each day. I would be very grateful if someone could help me, as I really do want to do this new way of losing weight. Thank you. more

Open Question: Butter/Shortening/Oil... Baking Powder/Baking Soda... Which should I use?

I am getting into baking cupcakes and I have been looking at many different recipes online. I have noticed that some recipes call for butter, some for shortening, and some for oil. Is there some real guideline to follow when it comes to which fat to use for certain recipes? Or does it not matter? Which one should I use for Chocolate cupcakes? Which one for Vanilla? Which one for cupcakes with fruit in them? I'd really appreciate some expert advice, so if you are a baker or someone who knows alot about baking - which should I use? Also - which recipes should I use baking powder and which ones should I use baking soda? **What I am looking for here is a reason for why I should use which one ... So please don't just put up recipes without explaining why that fat/levening was used ... Thank you!I noticed that some chocolate and vanilla recipes call for butter and some recipes like carrot call for oil ... I'm wondering what the fat has to do with the flavor of the recipe.*and by flavor I mean the type of recipe it is (chocolate, carrot, etc.).With the levening - I noticed that some recipes use only baking powder, some use only baking soda, and some use both ... I was wondering why they do this. more

Open Question: Don't the Crusades denounce Christianity AND Islam?

The first Crusade was approved by Pope Urban II by appeal of Alexios I of the Byzantine Empire. Why? In 1071, at the Battle of Manzikert, the Byzantine Empire was defeated by Muslim advances. The land they took is where the modern Turkey is now, formally secular, yet has 99% of population registered as Muslims still today. Islam AND Christianity deal in absolutes ("If you aren't with us, you are against us.")? Qur'an in it's late verse says non-Muslims are 'the worst of created beings' (98 - Al-Bayyina). The Bible says non-Christians will burn in hell forever. The Bible says people who don't believe in God are foolish. Qur'an says the believers in non-Islamic religions are 'the enemy' in (63) Al-Munafiqoon. (I found just that in mere minutes.) SOURCES: (Crusades:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusades#Immediate_cause (Turkey and religion:) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkey#Religion (Qur'an feeding hate:) http://www.quranexplorer.com/quran/ (98 - Al-Bayyina and 63 (verse: 5)- Al-Munafiqoon (verses: 0,1,2,3) (Muslims, Christians I think your religions are your worst enemy, kissing your butt with promises and scaring you with "powerful jealous creatures" dividing real humans in groups and sparking tensions: a recipe for war.) more
