Open Question: Birthday event for Boyfriend?
My boyfriend's birthday is in about 2 weeks. Honestly, he hasnt been the "best" boyfriend recently... but incase, i still want to prepare a little something for him. he's been wanting a specific pair of nikes for a while now. every time we'd go to the mall, he's run into that store, and stare in awe at that pair of shoes. it's about $100... =S i was planning to buy a bunch of his favourite foods and set them on my dinning table. (im not really..good.. at cooking ..hehe) And sometime during our dinner, i'd surprise him with the shoes. =D i think preparing for that will cost me.. a LOT. (oh, btw, he didnt get me anything for my birthday.. -__-, i guess it's okay..? because he was out of town for a while during that time...) does anyone have any suggestions for a good birthday event, or gift, etc. for a boyfriend?? =) =) =) moreOpen Question: Having dinner with my sister in law tomorrow?
Possibly a few friends and my MIL as well. I am not nervous about cooking/eating with them. We all like to cook and enjoy everything when we get together. I am looking ideas. I know I have: mushrooms onions bell peppers green onions and zucchini to use up. NOT soup, we have 2 teenagers adn 2 4 yr old to serve as well and that wnt go over the best. Other than that no one is a pickey eater etc...with the exception that my MIL and I both avoid spicy foods. Just ideas mostly but if you have a great recipe post that as well. moreOpen Question: Does anyone know of a good diet cookbook?
My husband is seeing a doctor for high blood pressure. His doctor wants him to lose weight and exercise. He has been exercising 3 to 4 times a week and is trying to limit calories. He went to see a nutritionist/dietitian today. It was a total waste of time and money. All she could recommend is what a diet book that my husband has been using already. Cut out certain foods and exercise, which my husband was already doing. She said to limit sodium intake also. This is information that I already knew as a former nurse aide. I also have been trying to lose weight, but my problem is related to hormone changes. My husband's mother had a thyroid problem and couldn't lose weight. She saw dietitians, joined weight watchers with no success. Her family doctor found out that her metabolism was out of whack. This is why she couldn't lose the weight. She was given medication and she started losing weight. I'm thinking this is what the problem might be with my husband. Sometimes the problem can be organic in nature. We are going to really try to stick with the diet from the book. My husband lost 20 pounds 3 years ago. However, I would like to find a good cookbook with tasty meals that are fast and easy. I like to cook but I don't like the mess of cooking. I have a very tiny kitchen with absolutely no counter space. A stove that is 30+ years old and only 2 of the burners work. So if I do cook it has to be a one pan recipe. My husband doesn't like tomatoes at all. I can't eat cabbage, nuts, pork because I'm allergic to all of these items. He loves cabbage, nuts, pork. He's almost 100% German ancestry. I'm almost 90% English/Irish ancestry. So he doesn't like what I make and I really can't eat what he likes. The dietitian said that corn is a starch and shouldn't be used much. I grew up on a large farm and thought corn was extremely healthy and rich in vitamins. I really didn't care for her ideas on food much. Can anyone please recommend a healthy cookbook? Thanks. moreOpen Question: How do you convert cooking time from a microwave to an oven?
I have a chicken and spinach cannelloni recipe that i want to cook and I have bought all the ingredients for. When i looked more closely at the recipe it was cooked in the microwave. I am not a fan of cooking my food in the microwave so i was wondering if I can take the time it takes in a microwave and some how calculate the time it would take to cook in an oven. It says to cover and microwave on half (50%) power for about 10 mins. How long should i put it in the oven for? moreOpen Question: Over 21 ONLY:playing alone bc husband is scared?

Let clarify that I'm talking about food here, not marital infidelity--lol. A cheat recipe is a culinary shortcut. You take a pre-made or boxed item and modify it to make it your own. Thus, you can save time and "dress up" the generic item with good ingredients and flavor that wasn't in the original, maybe even fooling your family or guests into thinking that you cooked from scratch. Adding wine and spices to store bought tomato sauce is one example. What are your favorite quick and tasty cheat recipes? moreOpen Question: Muslim Question about Food!!?

Why/Why Not?">>See Below?
" Background Information>>"....I am a middle aged single woman. I have worked most of my adult life in the food industry in some area or another. Bakery was the hardest. I was going to try something unrelated... towards attending school for Esthetician..to work in a Day Spa.. however.. reading many blogs.. many are not finding work. The school cost 10 grand.. and you work on straight commission, It takes years they say to build a client book.. and I wouldn't be able to go it alone .. until I get enough money and clients to do so. Besides that.. not finding work may help me to go homeless.lol..Well.. could. The Spas expect you to bring in all the work.. and yet..your not allowed to bring the clients with you when you leave. I thought this would be less strenuous work physically on me and my body.. however.. if I can't find work or much of it.. the school won't want to wait for re paying the loan that long. This woman in CA said on a Spa Blog.. that she can't find work and wish she never did it now.. because she is in debt. However.. I read that the spa industry has not been affected that much or hard yet. But.. that must mean those already in it.. not recent grads.. At a Community College here .. they have a program for one year for a food production or prep.. towards becoming a cook, assistant cook or grill cook.. When I worked at a hotel these people made a decent.. wage and received benefits.. working nights .. is good because I am a night owl.. I would have a steady stream of income.. which would allow me to continue my schooling during the days.. for an associates in Culinary. What do you all think .. why / why not? Also.. They say food and medical are the two main areas in any recession that would never suffer because people need both areas ... and food is a necessity.. luxury services are not.. Should I not allow my middle age to deter me? I love to cook.. I am a foodie.. I am a good cook. moreResolved Question: Pakistani's out there, this is due tomorrow!!!?

Hey, I wanted to start learning how to cook some and wanted to try making something for my family soon. I was planning on making Beer Battered Fish with a side of Broiled Eggplant and for dessert Irish Chocolate Mint Dessert. Any tips for making this or any tips in general? Also you think this goes good together? Here our the recipes below. Beer Battered Fish: INGREDIENTS -1 cup all-purpose flour -1 teaspoon salt -1 teaspoon baking powder -1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed -3/4 cup beer -1/2 cup milk -2 eggs -2 pounds cod fillets -2 quarts vegetable oil for frying DIRECTIONS 1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, salt, baking powder, and dill. Add beer, milk, and eggs; mix well. 2. Place fish fillets in batter mixture, coat well, and let stand for 15 minutes. 3. Heat deep fryer to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Place fish in hot oil, and fry until golden brown. Cook fish in batches to maintain oil temperature. Serve. Broiled Eggplant: Ingredients oil (olive oil, vegetable oil, sesame oil, or hot sesame oil) eggplants (1 Japanese eggplant serves 2 , 1 medium eggplant serves 4) salt and ground black pepper Directions Using a pastry brush, coat a baking sheet with oil. If you're using a large eggplant, cut it into 1/2-inch-thick rounds. If you're using Japanese or small eggplants, cut them lengthwise into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Arrange the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet. Brush the tops of the slices with oil. Broil a few inches from the heat for 7 to 12 minutes, until the slices are golden brown. Turn the baking sheet once if your broiler heat is uneven. If the interior is still too firm when the outside is browned, bake the eggplant at 400° for a few minutes until soft. Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Irish Chocolate Mint Dessert: Ingredients 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) plus 6 tablespoons butter or margarine, divided 2 cups granulated sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 4 eggs 3/4 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 2 2/3 cups powdered sugar 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon water 1 teaspoon mint extract 4 drops green food color 1 cup HERSHEY'S Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Directions 1. Stir in granulated sugar and vanilla. Add eggs; beat well. Add cocoa, flour and baking powder; beat until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan. 3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. 4. Prepare mint cream center by combining powdered sugar, 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, water, mint extract and food color. Beat until smooth. Spread evenly on brownie. Cover; refrigerate until cold. 5. Prepare chocolate glaze by placing remaining 6 tablespoons butter and chocolate chips in small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1 minute or until mixture is smooth when stirred. Cool slightly; pour over chilled dessert. Cover; refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. Cover; refrigerate leftover dessert. moreOpen Question: I need a recipe for American Chop Suey!?

I've been doing a lot of research on RAW diets and they seem to be much healthier for dogs and more natural to them. Dogs in the wild are carnivores, not omnivores. Of course they also don't eat cooked meat in the wild. So, biologically, the raw diet would make more sense. I'm looking to see if anyone feeds their dogs this way and if so, how they like it. Is there a specific place you get the food from or do you make your own? Thanks!! moreOpen Question: Are Americans too stupid to be Free?
New York looks to ban salt in restaurant cooking "No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises," the bill, A. 10129 , states in part. The legislation, which Assemblyman Felix Ortiz , D-Brooklyn, introduced on March 5, would fine restaurants $1,000 for each violation. "The consumer needs to make their own health choices. Just as doctors and the occasional visit to a hospital can't truly control how a person chooses to maintain their health, neither can chefs nor the occasional visit to a restaurant," said Jeff Nathan, the executive chef and co-owner of Abigael's on Broadway. "Modifying trans fats and sodium intake needs to be home based for optimal health. Regulating restaurants will not solve this health issue." http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/local_news/new_york_state/chefs-call-proposed-new-york-salt-ban-absurd-20100310-akd moreOpen Question: Am I a clingy person in my relationship?
Am I needy or a dependent? Before I met the love of my life, the only person I relied on for anything was my mother, and she was gone all day while I'd be at my house alone. I was alone a lot of the time in my life. My mom just mainly cooked food for me, did my laundry, and stuff like that. That was before my junior/senior year in high school. Now I do a lot of stuff on my own, go to work, and take care of my girlfriend. However, I do feel like I may be clingy, needy, or dependent upon her. I hope it's just that mutual thing. It's almost as if my girlfriend and I are truly married. She also has recently gone away on a trip with her friend (who I believe to be a little toxic) and I miss her like crazy if I don't stay occupied.Oh, well, I don't do anything but just miss her when we aren't together. I also wish to rely on her for mental support when I'm not feeling good or when I'm depressed. I always let her depend on me when she needs me. I don't know. I'm starting to think I'm not that kind of guy. moreOpen Question: Anyone know the recipe for the fast food resturant Krystal's Sweet Bites ?

I have lived in my partners house since 2008 now, he is still waiting to get it in his name after debts, arrears and payments since his ex left in 2007, he will be there fingers crossed with a bonus in April of this year. I own my own property and rent it out but this person just pays for the rent through his company and doesnt pay council tax, water, electricity etc, so the rents pays for everything just! Living with my partner I buy the food, new furniture, new flooring, TV, and almost every month something new comes into the house. However at times he says to me that I should be more grateful as he has a roof over my head, pays for it and water, electricity etc? but then goes on to say he would do this anyway even if I wasnt there....? which brings me to confusion.. if we argue and I need help around the house? I always get the food, around £100 every other month, do up the house every month with something, could be curtains, blinds, flooring, we both work hard and earn well, but at times he throws it back in my face. ALso he was living in my flat for 6 months to rent out his rooms in his house while sorting out his debts back in early 2009? What do you think is fair, plus I clean, (useless at cooking lol he cooks) I do the dishes, washing, cat is looked after and house is always imaculate, at times I sense I need to be feeling guilty here what do you think? I love my work and work a good 40 hour if not more hours per week so does he, I am thinking of bringing in a cleaner and i will pay for this person to help us. But he said no he would do it, but its whenever it suits him and makes the house look untidy until it is clean and I think our standards are somewhat different in that area. I would like to move into something together but he knows he cant get a mortgage as of yet and we are stuck here for a few years perhaps. Whereas my credit rating is good. I have no intentions of selling my property but was thinking of buying a second abroad, as he suggested so we can live out there at times too. He said he does enough for me, roof over my head, buys me christmas presants and looks after me, but it never appears in a nice way or he throws a comment in "i drove you to see your dad (who isnt well) as its my duty to, being your partner?" ....you what is that suppose to make me feel grateful I would prefer if he worded it better! any suggestions and am I a doormat here? thank you moreOpen Question: I recently found out that my son is allergic to a list of foods, any good recipe ideas?

well, i met this guy about a year ago. We never REALLY had any long conversations or anything. I only say 'met' as in 'saw, know, heard of' . He goes to my church so I see him almost every sunday. he is part of the youth group (i'm 13 and he's in high school) with his younger brother. His father is one of the people who leads the youth group, and he is also (suprisingly) my ccd teacher. I get along REALLY WELL with his dad, we talk about things like food (i'm vegan and his wife is a great cook), bible topics, and other casual things. I'm not entirely sure, but i think he sort of looks my way during services (i sing in the choir at the front of the church and while i sing i sort of scan the room out of habit). Once we talked about our love of coffee when we all had a movie night. He seems like the kind of guy who is more interested in studies like i am. He lives on base and i live off base. We also see each other on every 2nd and 4th wednesday of the month for youth group meetings. Just last wednesday, we were at youth group and we talked about war (the whole group). When he said things that were funny i think he would sort of look at my direction. I'm not sure if it's just my mind though. I know that when we played a game of dodge ball with marshmellows (for the 'war' theme i'm guessing) I was hiding my a rack of chairs. I'm uncordinated and really suck at playing sports even something so simple as that. I heard him say my name like "come on, you have to play" kind of tone .. or "come out of hiding! throw a marshmellow!". I'm really confused. I might see him tomorrow at dinner for lent since our group is suppose to be serving the food. any advice? oh and he's sort of the "shy to new groups of people but sort of willing to open up"; or at least that's how he strikes me as. I like to be hyper and be myself around the group, it just seems to bring life to everyone, like they do to me ^-^ moreOpen Question: what is your favorite food? Teach me how to cook it?

Does anyone know of any low calorie cookbooks or cookbooks that are great in helping to lose weight, watch calorie intake until or just plain healthy with calorie info included ? I need something that is fast and easy and includes meals such as breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks/desserts. Obviously low in calories and still taste great. Any advice will do. Plus I am a college student on a budget. I want to cook more at home meals instead of buying junk food. moreOpen Question: Does anyone know of any healthy cookbooks? budget friendly if possible.?

I'm 20. Me and my boyfriend had been together for almost 1 year now. We lived together for half a year, and now, we're back to our houses with our parents, because my mother is against us living together. He's currently studying, 3 hours everyday at weekdays and working at night 3-4 times a week in a 6-7 hours shift. I just moved here in my mothers house for about three weeks now. The number of times he visited me is about 4 or 5 times since the day I moved in. Those visits only lasts less than an hour. Sometimes he never goes inside and just leave. He always rush up, he always says he's afraid that he'll get caught by my mother visiting me here. I always tell him that's it's ok with my mom, and I assure him my mom won't be around when I'm inviting him, but he still doesn't seem to believe me. He still rush to go home. I always feel like he's just being forced to come visit me here, ....It boils my blood every time I think of that. And today, I asked him to visit me. I cooked some food for him. When he came, he said he'll just try the food and he will be heading home immediately. I asked him if he can stay a little longer and he said no. He said that he's tired from work and he has not slept yet. After that I discussed him about it, why can't he stay longer. He said he doesn't want to see my mothers face et cetera, even if I assured him that she won't come for 3 days (which is true). I ended up crying begging him to stay just for an hour and I won't invite him again but he still left.... For me, it's hard because will lived together for half a year, we see each other everyday during that time. We are very attached to each other emotionally and physically. But now, he's so cold. I always initiate to keep in touch with him, he doesn't initiate even once. I'd love to visit him at their house, but me and his parents are not that close and there is a whole family in there unlike in our house, where my mother rarely goes home. And it's so wrong to always visit him there, because he's supposed to do that for me. I love him so much, I just don't know if he feels the same way right now, or it's just that he feels uneasy staying in our house. I really feel depressed, lonely, upset, and any sad feelings you can imagine... Whats should I do? Leave the situation like that? If you have suggestions, please tell me.He's 22 y/o BTW. moreResolved Question: dinner ideas for two?

I work in a daycare that serves very little food. Example: One day they were served 2 small fish sticks, 1 small scoop of potato salad, 1 small scoop of green beans, 1/4 of milk in a cup not much bigger than a Dixie cup. They have it printed on the menu for the parents to see that they serve bread to the children, but they don't get it. They lie to to parents all the time when it comes to the food servings . I'm so tired of watching those children suffer through all of this torture. Another bad thing is they also put on the menu they serve the children Juice, that is a lie as well. They serve those children water down kool -aid and that is horrible, but here lately they've been only getting water to drink instead of what is on the menu. I mean come on this are older three's to 5 years of age.. They're feeding this children like their 2 years old. They're cutting corner but they're doing and it's affecting the children. Isn't it what you go into running a daycare is making the children are well fed and taken care of.. One day for snack one little boy in my class was waiting to eat his four little vanilla wafers. he was waiting on his milk. when the cook came in our room and the little boy realized she was serving them water he was upset because he wanted milk. She told him, you're getting water today, and he said but I want milk. She told him water is good for you beside it flushes out your kidneys. He just hung his head and was sad by her remark. What can be done to help those children? This is my job, but I'm still responsible for those children. Somebody out there please pray for those children in this center. I need answers moreOpen Question: does he want sex or what?
I met this guy couple months ago and gave me his number to call him but I never did bcz im not interested. Anyhow, I met him again and pretended that i don't know him but he still came up to me and reminded me how he gave me his number but i never called. so I ended up giving him my number so that I don't be rude. He called me the day after and asked me out although he knew im not interested in dating someone right now. I got an excuse and didnt go out with him this weekend he called and then met up with me where I usually study and asked me some questions about my ex and stuff. anyways i made it clear that im not gonna date anyone right now. at the end of the conv. he was like you should try my food. What about I cook for you one day and you come over to see my apartment? I was like I'm not sure, I don't even know you LOL. he was like "oh god dude trust me im not some bad guy but whatever if you don't wanna come over it is ok." DO YOU THINK HE WANTED SEX WHEN HE INVITED ME TO HIS APARTMENT? moreOpen Question: Should I have a baby at 17? Turning 18 in Oct.?
Ok, so. I'm a girl (using a friends account since I don't have my own) and I'm 17 and want a baby. NOW, I know people say it isn't a good idea and all that and money, time, etc. But, as other people who have asked this question they go to school, don't have money, have nonsupportive parents and just don't have the time for a baby or aren't ready. I know a baby is a completely new experience and are expensive, I know all that. Now, I've already dropped out of school (been out of school for a LONG time and my parents still support me and pay for me, food, living, etc) They haven't told me to get a job or even threatened to kick me out. My father is always supportive of me and helps me out financially whenever I need help and my mother is also very supportive and does whatever she can for me, financially and any other ways a mother does for her child. So, I don't go to school, don't have a job and don't really need one or have needed one since I get money on a daily basis and don't have anything to spend it on, and I don't really sleep either (insomnia, but it doesn't affect my life so I can nap and sleep whenever, like to fit a baby, morning, afternoons etc. Whenever the baby is asleep I can sleep and wake up to care for it and just go back to sleep when it's also asleep without worrying about school or work) and I've taken care of animals my whole life and my younger sister since she was a baby as well. I fed her and still cook for her and devote all my time to her (she is now 13 and I still care for her as a second mother because our mother works all day usually) and I just feel so ready for a child and don't see complications. I have a boyfriend I've been with for over three years and we're completely committed to each other and are moving in together INTO MY PARENT'S HOUSE. So they support us and we don't have to pay too much rent, but we will pay half of the current rent. He's working in the summer and preparing for college in Sept, but will still work, but I have financial support from all ends. I save up my own money I get form my parents and keep it in my bank account. So I can help out as well. I love kids and love to tend to them and keep children happy, it gives me something to do and I LOVE doing it! So, should I have a baby? I know I'm ready, I just want more opinions and not just my own and my boyfriends. The problem is also, his parents are very religious and will cut off any financial aid for his schooling, but there's simple solutions to tuition, but I respect his parent's opinions and feelings, but we really want a baby. So? Yes or no? Teen moms with experience would help a TON! I'd love to hear from the actual experience, although my situation is different since I don't attend school or care about hanging with friends (I don't go clubbing, never have, don't like parties, don't drink or smoke, I love to be at home). HELP!!Ok, read all the answers and wanna thank all of you (even the mean answers ;p, still appreciate all the input). You're all right, I do want to set a good example and be able to give all I can for my baby. And, so. I'm gonna make a strong attempt to go back to school and graduate. Thanks everyone, thanks for the reality check and I can't wait for the future and a stable lifestyle when I'll be able to have a baby! Thank you!Oh, and I have 2 dogs, a rabbit, and 2 birds! So, another dog is out of the picture, lol. But thanks anyways, I'll wait. moreOpen Question: What kind of foods can I eat while on a diet that are natural?
Ok I'm starting this diet to lose weight. The reason I gained it in the first place is because I just buy some fast food because its easy, quick, and taste good. I'm used to natural food because thats what my mother used to cook with. I just don't know how to shop for them or what I should cook after I get them. PLZ if you have any ideas at all I'd love your help. Even if you don't know what to cook, a good list of vegetables and fruits would really help. I just can never think of any when I go to the grocery store. PLZ, don't tell me how to lose weight or how to work out because thats NOT what I'm asking you for. I'm asking you to simply tell me a list of healthy foods to buy when I go grocery shopping. I have a hard time choosing foods, and a list of what to eat would be very helpful. I repeat: DON'T TELL ME HOW TO WORK OUT!!!!! I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT!!!!! JUST GIVE ME A LIST OF FOODS!!! Thanks in advance, Always wit luv, Jess moreResolved Question: How is the job of food specialist in the ARMY?
