So i assume she can tolerate a small amount of oil and egg. She says that she cant consume any spices without a major amount of difficulty. Im looking to start over and forget all I know about cooking and learn it again. Its hard to teach someone whose cup is full so I'll forget everything. My cup is empty. What should be my cooking Bible? The Joy of Cooking? Better Homes and Gardens? Betty Crocker? I want to better myself so that when I use ingredients like black winter truffles from France or Sevruga Caviar from the Caspian Sea, they wont be wasted. What I need is a nice reference book, not necessarily with recipes that would send taste buds thinking of Auguste Escoffier, but information that would forever be of use to me and land a place on my kitchen counter as my Bible for cooking, my little Le Cordon Bleu in a book, where the knowledge in endless and everything I need to know is contained within its pages. I am actually intending to enroll at Le Cordon Bleu in France so I want to make sure my skills in the kitchen are well seasoned enough so I can succeed at this institution. But first I am starting over with the basics. I need a new Bible. Can you tell me the name of it? more

I would love to make sugar cookies for valentines day, last year i used the Betty Crocker mix and used cut-out heart shapes and red food coloring. I would like to do the same thing this year, but instead of using the ready made mix, i want to make them home made. I tried using a recipe from the Betty Crocker site but they came out horrible and it was like you couldnt even taste the sugar. Please help. Wagon Wheel Taco Skillet 1/2 lb. lean ground beef sirloin 1 package (1oz) Old El Paso taco seasoning mix or other taco seasoning mix of your choice 2 1/4 cups of water or of water 1 1/2 cups of uncooked wagon wheel pasta 1 1/2 frozen corn Green Giant Valley Fresh Steamers corn nibblets is what i use. 15 oz of cooked pinto beans (I soak hard pinto beans the night before for 8 hours and cook them till the thickness or consistency is just right for more slow cooking 1 medium tomato or 2 roma tomatos chopped after de-seeded 3/4 cup 1/2 cup of sour cream 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or crumbled or Queso Anejo, crumbled completely (6 - 8 oz) 1 Tablespoon or 15mL's of freshly chopped chives 1.) In 12-inch skillet, cook beef over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until brown; drain after that. 2.) Stir seasoning mix, water, uncooked pasta, corn, beans and tomato into beef. Heat to boiling; stir. Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover; cook 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is desired doneness and most of the liquid has been absorbed. 3.) Stir in sour cream. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with cheese and chives. Cover; let stand 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Cheesy oven baked scalloped potatoes.. This is hilarous... :) 8 small russet potatoes peeled and sliced thin to medium thin 3 Tbsp. butter 2 packets of powder cheese (from the Betty Crocker scalloped potatoes boxes - yes i throw out the dried potatoes and use the powdered cheese) 1 cup 2% milk enough water to slightly cover up the 2 layers of potatoes in a 13X9X2 inch pyrex pan after adding the 1 cup of milk. Heat the oven to 450 degrees Fairenheit, bake at least 25 minutes or until potatoes are done and most of the water has thickened. You can add cooked chopped ham when scalloped potatoes are done for this recipe. more

Resolved Question: What is the best way to store all my open bags of gluten-free flours and such?

My toddler age daughter requires a gluten-free diet so I am getting handy with various alternative flours, gums, tapioca, etc. needed for her baking. However, most recipes call for a combination of a whole bunch of different flours and dry or powdered ingredients. Since I am not exactly Betty Crocker (yet) I don't use the flours up quickly enough even though they come is small 1 lb bags. What is the best way to make these open ingredients last longest? Should I separate into pre-measured portions and freeze in ziplocks? If yes, will the freezing cause any chemical changes in these ingredients? I realize I could just keep them in tightly closed containers but I have been told that you should never keep an open bag of flour, etc. for longer than a couple months. My mother tells me that there are little bugs or bug eggs in with the flours and such and after a few months they can hatch, so even if you have a completely immaculate and bug-free home you can still get bugs in your flour, etc.Thanks everyone! Yeah, I've never had any bugs either but I sure don't want any! Yuck! more

I bought some of the gluten free betty crocker baking mixes (we are GF DF) but cannot figure out a dairy free alternative that doesn't mess up the recipe. The mix calls for 1/2 cup of butter. I'm sure I can use Vegan Smart Balance, or vegetable oil.... I just don't know how much? more

I need a recipe for sweet and sour sauce. It was the Better Homes and Gardens or Betty Crocker original recipe, I can't remember which book I got it out of, but I'm pretty sure it was BHG. All I can find online are some new recipes that are not the same. This recipe was made of a chicken broth base, which had to be cooked on the stove. At the end, after cooking it, you add crushed pineapple, as well as diced tomatoes. I know most of the basic ingredients, just need the measurements and I can't remember! Help please, if you have those cookbooks and can give me the recipe, I would appreciate it! more

I absolutely love the icing used on cakes at grocery stores like Wal-Mart. The cakes say the icing is "Whipped" icing and it tastes like there may be Cool Whip in it. I am dieing to make it at home because it would be so much cheaper than buying the cake. Every time I look for a recipe online though, it directs me to recipes for "whipped icing" which is just the light and fluffy stuff that you can buy from Betty Crocker. I have a friend who wants me to make this recipe and I want it too, but I can't find it !! I think I've seen it either on the Betty Crocker site or the Better Homes and Gardens recipe site or maybe even the Kraft Foods site, and I can't find it ! Help ! Resolved Question: Need help figuring out the flour base for this Toffee bar?

This was a recipe in a betty crocker cook book at least 30 years old. It says that you need to mix flour with *i think* egg to get a base for the toffee bar. When your done mixing it it looks like a crumbly mess that you press into the pan, then you bake it for a little bit and THEN put the toffee on top to bake for another 20 minutes. All the toffee bar recipes im finding right now exclude the base which I really love. Kinda gives it a bit of crunch last time I used it, it kind of reminded me of graham cracker crust because of the consistency. more
