Resolved Question: If the BNP got into power...?

Would they shut down all food cuisines except fish and chip shops? Would they boycott american/asian films from cinemas? Would they be allowed to holiday in other countries? I guess its only fair for the nonwhites that they dont. that is a laugh. I'd gladly leave if everything like that was banned.. whos with me? more

Resolved Question: Is england the best country in europe?

Resolved Question: Are there any traditional curry restaurants in Bradford?

Resolved Question: How common is the use of sesame in Japan?

I've always wanted to visit Japan and maybe even work there for an extended period, however, I'm concerned about my food allergies. My worst allergy is to sesame (inc. sesame seeds, sesame oil etc.) and I'm aware that this a common ingredient in East Asian cuisine and I wanted to find out if its something that can easily be avoided. For instance, I've considered it would probably be better for me to cook for myself but then food products which you buy in supermarkets can also contain sesame. I suppose they would list it in their ingredients but if its written in kanji, I would have no way of telling whether something contains sesame or not. So my question is, how common is sesame in regular Japanese cuisine and can it be easily avoided?I should rephrase my question as, is it difficult to find Japanese food without sesame? And if I were to eat in a restaurant, can they cater for people with food allergies? more

Resolved Question: Why are Afghanistan and Pakistan now in the Middle East?

Why do news media and governments (esp. US), now refer to them as "Middle Eastern" Countries. Both are in South Asia, Pakistan part of the Indian Subcontinent. The cultures of both countries are South Asian, language, dress, cuisine, music etc. Is it simply that a very high proportion of the population are Muslims and people equate this with mid-east Arab Culture. I have heard Pakistanis referred to as "Arab" before which is particularly bizarre. Has the middle east got bigger? or is just religion, so presumably countries like Somalia ( Africa) and Indonesia ( SE Asia ) must be middle eastern now too, or has the definition got confused? Don't just post links to wikipedia etc, I want people's own opinions. thanks more

Resolved Question: Traditional english main course recipe that is vegetarian preferably vegan-I have to cook for Italian!?

Usually at home I eat asian, mexican, italian, french, morrocon, but very rarely english... if i do it's been premade such as a linda mccartney country pie and vegetables. In italy they cooked me really good food, spaghetti, gnocci, cheeseless pizza, ravioli, canneloni, lasagne, frittatas (deep fried pizza puff doughnut type things), really good salads, risotto and more... I eat similar stuff sometimes in england if not indian, thai, japanese, chinese etc, but realise my italian friend will be expecting traditional english cuisine, and usually eats quite a lot at meal times (pasta is just a starter!) any ideas for fairly straight forward, flavoursome, good vegan traditional English meals? Please help! more

Resolved Question: British Asians-we love you!?

No doubt, my question will invoke a stream of abuse from racists, but I ask the question with seriousness. Food from the Indian sub-continenent is one of our favourite cuisines. Monty Panesar, our spin bowler, a Sikh, has been given the greatest of accolades - a friendly nickname - to wit 'The Turbanator" (Terminator). A mild micky take that Monty accepts with glee - I've met the chap and asked him his opinion. He has taken 4 wickets today at an average of 25.2. Come on, British Asians. Lets us hear from you on this site. Ignore the Islamophobes and other people with problems - let us all hear what you have to say! (As an aside, I'm going out tonight with my friends Mohammed, Hardeep and Dipak - they and their wives have just eaten one of my curries) FMHD and wives will be hitting the bars tonight, and Mo drinks beer) more

Resolved Question: How do people of Asian ethnicity but British birth like to be addressed?

Asian, British Asian or what? I'm an Englishman, and by no means racist, but we have a substantial proportion of people of Asian ethnicity in the UK, and in questions that relate to demography and even cuisine, it is sometimes necessary to categorise people in terms of ethnicity. How would you Asian types like to be addressed, so that I can make references without accidentally insulting people. more

Resolved Question: Green Runner Beans Has anyone any really good recipes please?

I am about to start on the season when it is Beans for breakfast, beans for lunch, and beans for supper. Occasionally alleviated by the glut of courgettes and petit pan squashes. I am posting this in the ethnic cuisine section as I believe they are used quite a lot in Mexican and Greek cooking, but I have never come across them in Asian or Chinese cookery. I am a keen cook, but do get a bit fed up of beans with cheese and chilli sauce. Help, pleaseThese beans are only eaten in the pod. The season here is too short for them to mature and be eaten as beans as in Red Kidney beans etc.At the moment I love runner beans - sweet tender, the first of the season, just boied in a bit of salty water they are great - I've tried eating them the mexican way -great - I salt them- I freeze them(still got some of last years left) but would love a good recipe for a stir fry with them - what goes with them best? and are there no keen indian food cooks who can suggest suitable spice mixtures? Come on India - you adopted the chili why not the Runner bean? For growing try north of 57 degrees - they are in a polytunnel more
