Resolved Question: Question for those who have had Fractional NonAblative Resurfacing Laser...?

I'm thinking about getting the Palomar Starlux Lux 1540 Fractional Laser soon. I want to get it mainly for a few huge rolling scars that I have on my chin, right below the side of my lips. My derm told me that after 5 sessions, it would look BETTER, but it might not look perfect. It would cost me over a grand, so it's a tough decision. The scars aren't that noticeable in dim lighting or at night, but outdoors when the sunlight hits my face directly it creates these huge shadows. Now I'm pretty sure after doing this treatment it will seem flawless in dim lighting, but do you think after treatments it will still be noticeable outdoors in direct mid-day sunlight? PS. I think 5 sessions (1 a month) is the min, but is it the max? Could I just keep getting sessions til its "perfect", or does it only get so good? Thanks more

Resolved Question: Skin help...acne AND a rash =(?

Sooo...I have had acne for 3-4 years now. I don't know if you'd call it "severe" or everything, sometimes my face looks really bad, like 10 pimples...other times like 2. I've tried everything to get rid of it.... I spend SO much time washing my face; you'd think I'd have perfect skin. But the thing is, no matter how much I clean my face, it's NEVER completely clear. So…let’s see…. I've tried Clean & Clear Advance acne kit, Proactive, Acne Free kit, Clean & Clear spot treatment, I've tried Neutrogena, I've tried ALL the generic stuff...I've tried literally all the combinations I could make from the stuff in the kits. I've tried literally every face wash they carry at Wal-Mart and CVS. I wash my face everyday (at least 3 times). I shower everyday (and at night too--even thought it'd be easier for me to in the morning, I've figured it's better to shower after the day is over and sleep clean, then it would if I lied in bed all night dirty--yes I put *that* much thought and effort into this). I've tried toothpaste. I've tried crushed up aspirin, I've tried lemons. I've tried apple cider vinegar. I've tried cucumber face masks. …I use to sleep on my side/stomach...I now sleep uncomfortably on my back ( I have to sleep in like the crack of my bed so I don't roll over >.>) so that my face doesn't touch the pillow. I force myself to drink bottles of water all day long. I haven't had a sip of soda in 2 years. I've been avoiding eating anything man made, I pretty much live off of salad, I don't even use dressing, Y_Y. I don’t even where any kind of skin make-up or blush. Point is, I’ve tried EVERYTHING. And like, this week, my face basically exploded. My face is always red, and my pimples leave bad marks. Not only that, but I have pimples on my face that won’t go away…they're not red/ a scar...the skin just grows on top of the pimple, so it's liek a bump on my skin, (DISGUSTING I know T_T). So nowwww, on Monday, I woke up with a horribleee rash on my face. Like, blots of my face are all red and puffy and like oily. It hurts too. Other parts of my skin aren’t red, but it’s realllly bumpy and dry. So, I haven’t put anything on my face for three days. I’m really at my wits end. I really don’t feel comfortable in my skin at all. Last night, I basically bawled for an hour because my face looks so bad. Like, I've been dressing in gray lately and I've been avoiding talking to people face-to-face, because my face looks so bad. I really don’t know what to do =( I have no idea where the rash came from. I have NO ideas left on how to get rid of my acne. I don't know what I'm doing wonggg. Urgh. So, please, PLEASE, ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you. more

Resolved Question: Reccomended Sarcoid Teatment?

I have a grey arab, who over the last 9 months has developed what my vet thinks are sarcoids. There are loads of what look like dark hardened skin lumps starting at the base of his neck, all under his belly, sheath and inner, upper legs. Applying cream each day would take shours and he rolls very regularly especially after grooming, so he would wipe it all off. Can anyone reccomed a product which has worked on removing sarcoids without sugical treatments? I have seen no 19 blood cleanse from silver lining herbs, and wonder how effective this is? I would like to try not to scar him as he is a great mover and it would be a shame not to get this stallion on the show circuit. Many thanks! more

Resolved Question: Depressed From Sexual Assault/Deformity. PLEASE HELP ME!?

Hi all. I have been deeply depressed for a long time after a sexual assault. I contracted genital warts from it. I had them treated at Planned Parenthood with an acid treatment. The nurse put the acid over my entire genital area, instead of just on the warts. My skin turned grey then later nearly all the fatty tissue is gone. My labia majora skin sags and hangs down 4 inches. I also have deep holes in my skin. It makes me so depressed. I think about it non-stop. I want to get married one day but I don't know how I will ever be able to have sex with my husband. I just wish I never went to Planned Parenthood. It had stung for several hours after the procedure. It was the worst pain I had ever experienced. and now I know where: because it was acid that was disfiguring me! Where do I go from here? I complained to Planned Parenthood but the coordinator just looked at me and said "well you did sign the release form stating you were told the complications." I was so nervious when I went there that I signed a form that they gave me. It never listed the complications. It only stated" I have asked questions and am aware of any complications." I asked while the nurse was performing the procedure and she said that there are no side effects. She lied to me!! I have no recourse now because I signed the paper. What do I do? I am beggin gmy mom to let me have corrective surgery. I saw a plastic surgen and it's going to cost $5000. I really want to have it. What do I do? The people at PP were so rude to me. The nurse rolled her eyes at me. All I think is how that nurse disfigured me ands he doesn't even care one bit. During the procedure she said it doesn't cause any problems. But when I went in aferwards she smiled and said "Yes it can can scarring and complications." I am so depressed. I hate my genitals. I hate being a woman. Please help. more

Resolved Question: Does this story mean anything to you?

This is the to write love on her arm's story. And when I read it something just hit me. I support there cause 100%. by jamie tworkowski Pedro the Lion is loud in the speakers, and the city waits just outside our open windows. She sits and sings, legs crossed in the passenger seat, her pretty voice hiding in the volume. Music is a safe place and Pedro is her favorite. It hits me that she won't see this skyline for several weeks, and we will be without her. I lean forward, knowing this will be written, and I ask what she'd say if her story had an audience. She smiles. "Tell them to look up. Tell them to remember the stars." I would rather write her a song, because songs don't wait to resolve, and because songs mean so much to her. Stories wait for endings, but songs are brave things bold enough to sing when all they know is darkness. These words, like most words, will be written next to midnight, between hurricane and harbor, as both claim to save her. Renee is 19. When I meet her, cocaine is fresh in her system. She hasn't slept in 36 hours and she won't for another 24. It is a familiar blur of coke, pot, pills and alcohol. She has agreed to meet us, to listen and to let us pray. We ask Renee to come with us, to leave this broken night. She says she'll go to rehab tomorrow, but she isn't ready now. It is too great a change. We pray and say goodbye and it is hard to leave without her. She has known such great pain; haunted dreams as a child, the near-constant presence of evil ever since. She has felt the touch of awful naked men, battled depression and addiction, and attempted suicide. Her arms remember razor blades, fifty scars that speak of self-inflicted wounds. Six hours after I meet her, she is feeling trapped, two groups of "friends" offering opposite ideas. Everyone is asleep. The sun is rising. She drinks long from a bottle of liquor, takes a razor blade from the table and locks herself in the bathroom. She cuts herself, using the blade to write "FUCK UP" large across her left forearm. The nurse at the treatment center finds the wound several hours later. The center has no detox, names her too great a risk, and does not accept her. For the next five days, she is ours to love. We become her hospital and the possibility of healing fills our living room with life. It is unspoken and there are only a few of us, but we will be her church, the body of Christ coming alive to meet her needs, to write love on her arms. She is full of contrast, more alive and closer to death than anyone I've known, like a Johnny Cash song or some theatre star. She owns attitude and humor beyond her 19 years, and when she tells me her story, she is humble and quiet and kind, shaped by the pain of a hundred lifetimes. I sit privileged but breaking as she shares. Her life has been so dark yet there is some soft hope in her words, and on consecutive evenings, I watch the prettiest girls in the room tell her that she's beautiful. I think it's God reminding her. I've never walked this road, but I decide that if we're going to run a five-day rehab, it is going to be the coolest in the country. It is going to be rock and roll. We start with the basics; lots of fun, too much Starbucks and way too many cigarettes. Thursday night she is in the balcony for Band Marino, Orlando's finest. They are indie-folk-fabulous, a movement disguised as a circus. She loves them and she smiles when I point out the A&R man from Atlantic Europe, in town from London just to catch this show. She is in good seats when the Magic beat the Sonics the next night, screaming like a lifelong fan with every Dwight Howard dunk. On the way home, we stop for more coffee and books, Blue Like Jazz and (Anne Lamott's) Travelling Mercies. On Saturday, the Taste of Chaos tour is in town and I'm not even sure we can get in, but doors do open and minutes after parking, we are on stage for Thrice, one of her favorite bands. She stands ten feet from the drummer, smiling constantly. It is a bright moment there in the music, as light and rain collide above the stage. It feels like healing. It is certainly hope. Sunday night is church and many gather after the service to pray for Renee, this her last night before entering rehab. Some are strangers but all are friends tonight. The prayers move from broken to bold, all encouraging. We're talking to God but I think as much, we're talking to her, telling her she's loved, saying she does not go alone. One among us knows her best. Ryan sits in the corner strumming an acoustic guitar, singing songs she's inspired. After church our house fills with friends, there for a few more moments before goodbye. Everyone has some gift for her, some note or hug or piece of encouragement. She pulls me aside and tells me she would like to give me something. I smile surprised, wondering what it could be. We walk through the crowded living room, to the garage and her stuff. She hands me her last razor blad more

Resolved Question: Ever Had Rude/Bad Experiences at Planned Parenthood?

I went to PP to get treated for an STD I caught from a sexual assault. They were so incredibly rude and disrespectful. They told me they thought I probably got the STD BEFORE the sexual assault. They wouldn't listen to me when I explained that I was not sexually active before. I also take BCP to treat Endometriosis. They kept telling me to take my pills so I don't get pregnant. When I said I am not sexually active, they rolled their eyes. To top it all off, the complications from my treatment never resolved: the skin on my labia majora sags down four inches and I have deep deppresed scars where the acid went past where the warts were. Anyone else had any bad experiences? Also, the pills they gave me gave me a headache and made me puke. They seemed to be very low quality. They cost $22 per pack. I found out that my local pharmacy has a generic for $19. I didn't even get any cheaper service than I would at a gynecolosit. It is all a joke. They were so greedy and money hungry. When I said that I didn't have the full $150. they yelled "DIDN'T WE TELL YOU PAYMENT AT TIME OF SERVICE?" so then I waited for a friend to come and let me borrow the rest.....I am scarred for life thanks to them. more

Resolved Question: Rape/Depression over Vaginal Damage. Please Help Me!?

I contracted genital warts from being raped. I went to Planned Parenthood to have them removed. I had three Acid treatments. The treatments left my vaginal area disfigured. I have depressed scars and severe skin damage. My skin hangs down four inches. When I went back into Planned Parenthood to tell them about the damage, the midwife charged me $60 for an "exam". All she did was look at my vagina and confirm I had scars. I told another nurse there how I was going to have corrective surgery and she rolled her eyes at me. The nurses even told me that I probabl got the warts before the sexual assault. I hate feeling like this. I feel so disgusting. I want to get married one day and have sexual relations with my husband. However, I can't imagine having sex. I feel so depressed and so stupid for going to Planned Parenthood instead of a physician. What can I do? I made an appointment with a plastic surgeon next week. Will he be able to help? I am so worried that maybe he can't help. As you can tell, I am really depressed and obsessed with this disfigurement. It's all I can think about. How do I get over this? I also hate the feeling that Planned Parenthood disfigured me and they don't even care. They sent me a letter saying that in order to provide "low cost, high quality care" to patients they need payment in a timely manner. I don't want to pay them $60 when all the nurse did was quickly glance at my vagina and say I had scars. Please help me. I feel so disgusting. Everytime I take a shower I remember the rape and Planned Parenthood. Please help. more

Resolved Question: Dermabrasion for Acne, Dr. John Yarborough of NOLA?

I am considering dermabrasion for my acne scars. I do not have ice pick scars, so to say, but more of deep, rolling crater like scars along my cheeks. Here's a little about my history: -Antibiotics throughout high school for acne/Benzaclin and retina A topical treatments -03-04 Smooth Beam to help prevent breakouts -After the smooth beam my acne became nodular and cyste like. -Went on accutane once all options failed. -Accutane cleared my nodular acne, but because of my cronic 'picking' and my skin being more prone to scars, my cheeks were left with craters =( -A year after the Accutane (05-06) I began microdermabrasion periodically and Fraxel 1540 laser treatment. -The microdermabrasion did not improve my scars, but helped with redness and just made my skin feel soft. The Fraxel did help with surface scars, but now a year later (07-08) and after normal breakouts, it seems my skin had degressed- not nearly as bad as before, but not as smooth as it was following the laser. I am now considering surgical dermatology, probably subcision technique or even more so, dermabrasion. I am 24 years old, still have acne (normal surface acne, a few small pimples here and there). I want to have the surgery, but read where active acne cannot be present. Well...I've had acne since I was 12. Its been 12 years, still no change. I don't want to go through my 20's and 30's waiting for it to stop so I can get rid of my scars. Is it ok to have a few breakouts and still undergo Dermabrasion? Even more importantly, I am looking for personal experiences with Dr. John M. Yarborough of new orleans. found only positive things about him so far, and I am about 45 minutes from New Orleans so it would be awesome to use him! I dont mean to be rude, but please DONT offer me alternative solutions to my scarring. Believe me, I've tried it all. No topical solution works for my acne, and I am tired of expensive lasers that do not work for me. I am treating my SCARS not ACNE. Please, as I already asked, don't offer your advice for acne treatment. I'm looking for personal accounts or information on surgical treatment for SCARS, I.E. Dermabrasion. more

Resolved Question: my horse has a very weird injury on his croup? any help apriciated very much!?

Here’s a question to challenge some ones knowledge, as I have had a few people look at my horses problem, including a vet and none haven’t a clue! My 16.2hh tb has a very old injury and the case is unknown, on his croup he has a large indent and a very large area of scar tissue that is rock solid. Since he has done this injury he has been ridden for four years, and then turned out for a year, this is when I bought him. However when I viewed him he seemed sound but when he arrived out of the box at ours he had a very peculiar movement in his off hind. He now, instead of putting that leg in a forward movement when he walks, he will drop that leg and do a more "circular movement" out with it almost dishing with that leg but worse. It also doesn’t help he has absolutely no muscle so when he rolls etc he really struggles to get up. The problem is mostly obvious in walk; however he shows no pain on that leg. Any ideas of how to help this and what treatment is best and will any form of exercise help?thanks for all those great ideas, an in awnser to some of the quiries i have had the vet out on more than one ocasion, and they have said 3month rest on restricted grazing however this i think is making matters worse as it seems to be stiffening up. and the action he has dosent drag his toe, he literally puts his let outwards then forwards.had an idea i will take a vidio and put it on youtube tommorow to give a clearer idea of what it is and put a link on here, thanks again every one for all you help, very much appriciated! more

Resolved Question: Does anyone use Murad?? Does it work for you?

I've used it for maybe 2 months now.. ok i wil admit that I don't always use the acne gel (i use it in the morning because i fall asleep everynight and have to make up for it by using it in the morning). But it doesn't seem to clear my blemishes (acne scars) or prevent them from reappearing!! So, im thinking about just getting a refill from my previous acne treatment from my dermatologist. Help! Had Murad worked for you? How do you use it (steps) and how long did it take. Its really hard for me to get rid of pimples especially when that "time of the month" rolls around!!. more

Finally i have heard of dermabrasion, but not too sure which doctor in singapore does it and how much will it cost? more

Resolved Question: Acne scarring?

I am 15 years old with quite a few rolling scars on my lower cheek. Its weird that i have that and not icepick scars. So anyways, when a specific type of light shines onto my face, my face seems perfectly clean and scar free natural (My house lights), but then lets say i go outside into the sunlight, My face then turns into a monstrous hideous scar face. My face shows ALL the rolling scars i have. Here is a nearly perfect example of what i have, but not as many in the pic: http://acne.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&sdn=acne&cdn=health&tm=2&f=00&su=p247.2.140.ip_p284.8.150.ip_&tt=14&bt=1&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.acneguide.ca/acne_scar_treatments/types_acne_scars.html The first two pics on the top, to the right. Will i grow out of this? If not, what are the possible remedies and treatments i can get? Please list the cost and procedure of each possible way i can do to heal this. Are there home remedies? Surgical procedures? If so, which way is the best to go? more

Resolved Question: Re-asking: fractures & car insurance settlement?

I, the driver, going 40 mph (the speedlimit) was hit by a hit & run driver at 90 mph; my car hit a tree, a fence, and rolled 5 times down a hill. The other driver never stopped and was never found; two witnesses gave police statements. It was determined not to have been my fault. My child in the passenger seat was taken by ambulance to local ER; xrays and treatment and ambulance totaled about 9K. My child was sore for a few days and only has a small scar on his hand. I was airlifted to a trauma center with fractured collarbones, collapsed lung, broken rib and assorted bruises, and hospitalized for 4 days. The bones are still healing. I went to physical therapy for 2 months and had cortisone shots in my shoulder. My total medical bills were about 40K. Car was totalled. Although I am still having pain when going about normal household chores and my right shoulder healed slightly deformed, the ins lady wants to offer me a settlement. Any advice? Policy: 100K/300K (two policies involved)My child's medical bills were $9750 and the ins co offered a settlement of $16266. I have yet to accept it. True he recovered from his bumps and bruises but he also has a scar on his hand. The ER doc should have used stitches but didn't and I was not there at the time to supervise his care since I was in another hospital. He also did not have loss of wages being a child. yet the experience was scary for him and he missed going on a planned vacation. more
