Open Question: What is the best dvd projector (home cinema) to get? Especially price, sound and picture quality?
I was looking at the EPSON EH-DM3 Home Theatre Projector & DVD Player ( http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2010/01/20/Epson-EH-DM3-LCD-Projector/p1 ) but the review wasn't great, so does anyone know of a better one? Thanks! :) moreResolved Question: Please tell me about these projectors vs. lcd TV's as I am thinking of buying one for my home for TV.?
I have seen at www.tigerdirect.com there are different kinds of projectors. There is SVGA and XGA and then there are different Lumens...I am confused and I do not know the quality of these things. I have about $400-$500 to spend on a new TV for my room and need input from some of you who know these things. What is the best deal on the market today for my price range that would be good for my application. it is usually dark in my room and the wall opposite my bed is 10-12' from my head in the bed. I do not know if I need a screen to project it on...or just the wall..etc.. I also need to know how the pic compares to that of a normal regular television that I have been watching...I also have an HD LCD tv in the living room..how does the pic compare to this? Please help me to decide my decision about whether I should buy another LCD tv or a projector...for my bedroom...I may could spend a little more than $500-$600 depending on the value...but I think if I am going to spend that kind of money I may just buy a large LCD tv...Please advise as I have no experience with these and would like to hear comparison from owners between the projectors vs. LCD tv's....pros and cons etc.. I want to set up a home theater in my basement, I want to go high end with out paying to much. Instead of getting a projector I am getting a Lcd/Led tv. I have looked a countless brands of speakers and do not know which one will give out the best sound for my buck. There is a lot of good brands out there like, B&W, klipsch, Mcintosh, Paradim, Wilson Audio, Atlantic Tech and countless others but I want to find the ultimate speakers for my budget. I am willing to spend around $2,000-3,500 but really want to stay around the $2,000 mark. I want to have crisp, clear sound that is loud and that gives you that movie theater experience. PS - I'm willing to go slightly above-average on the "price scale." moreResolved Question: Just bought an Epson 6500UB. Is it best to ceiling mount AS CLOSE or AS FAR as possible for the best quality?
I want the "brightest" and BEST looking picture. I am building my room AROUND the home theater and am TOTALLY flexible on seating and how close or how far I should mount it. I have an Elite Gray Screen with 1.2 Gain. I just have no clue whether it is best to mount as close or as far away as possible. I am "hoping" that I am upgrading from my current projector which is a Panasonic PT-DW5000U DLP Projector with 5000 Lumens but is WXGA. This is a basement install with NO ambient light and I have TOTAL light control for TOTAL darkness. I originally purchased the Panasonic because I thought that Lumens were the thing to look for. I paid THOUSANDS for it. It has 5000 lumens but only 800:1 contrast ratio. Now I'm only going to have 1600 Lumens but 75000:1 contrast ratio and true 1080P Hi Def and have DirectTV W/ All their Hi-Def programming. I still have my Panasonic PT-DW5000U mounted and am ready to take it down and put my new Epson Home Cinema 6500UB up, but I want to get it right the first time. Again, my seating is totally flexible, and currently am sitting about 8 feet in front of the screen, in the middle, and although I am ceiling mounting, I can mount the projector directly to the center of the screen too, for as little "tweaking" as possible, but have never known whether I will get a brighter picture / better quality picture if it's closer to the screen or further away from the screen. Also, since I'm "downgrading" a LOT in Lumens, am I going to be happy? I'm going from DLP to LCD, going from 5000 lumens to 1600 lumens, but going from 800:1 to 75000:1 contrast, and am going to WXGA 16:9 120" screen to true 1080P Hi-Def, so am I going to be HAPPY and is this a true UPGRADE or am I going to want to send it back and keep my Panasonic? I'd really appreciate any/all comments from people that may have some answers. I knew NOTHING about projectors when I bought mine, so I just got the BRIGHTEST possible and didn't pay attention to anything else. Now, I've read a bit, and really debated between the Panasonic PT-AE3000U and the Epson 6500UB which is what I ended up with. Did I make the right decision in YOUR opinion, and again, with total light control and a gray screen w/ 1.2 gain, do I have the "right" screen still, with this new projector, and am I going to be HAPPY or SAD, lol? Let me know YOUR thoughts and THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE, for taking YOUR TIME to help ME! I really appreciate it. moreVoting Question: Projector too good to be true? are they worth buying?

So my brother and I were about to buy a 37 inch LCD tv today, nutil he told me that he would only go in if he could buy me out at the end of the summer and bring it with him to college. I said hell no, and thought it was unfair that I would have to pay for the depreciation of the device, and wouldn't even get to use it for but 6 weeks. anyways. As an attempt to show him up with a "look what I have; neener neener neener!" type thing, I want to buy a projector to play my video games on. I actually thoguht about it and a projector is the way to go for me. We already have a tv in the area I would put it, and I only really wanted that 37 inch to play my xbox on, because we don't have all the fancy shamcy digital HDTV service and stuff, so it's not like tv would look any better on it anyways. So I figure if I get a projector with a VGA input, that would be great! I have one in my computer monitor for my xbox right now, and games come out in 720p, so If I could have that at 720, or even 1080, then that would totally rock! anyways, what this all boils down to is I would like to get a good projector for videogames, that's not going to make me want to commit suicide because I will be stuck at home all day because I have no gas money because I SPENT IT ALL ON A PROJECTOR. I have a Vaio laptop and I used it at work on Friday to show a movie using an LCD projector. In using that projector I had to use the Fn+F7 combo to view the movie. I am probably in the minority with this, but I absolutely hate the glossy black televisions that are now being made and am unsatisfied with glare issues with most of them. I am now considering a projector setup for viewing movies (old & new in 16:9 and 4:3) as well as over-the-air broadcasted network channels (ABC, NBC, etc) but in a not-so-gigantic view as might be possible (limit screen size to 46-60"). Here are my questions upon considering the Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 and 1080 UB:http: //www.projectorcentral.com/Epson-PowerLite_Pro_Cinema_1080_UB.htm 1. My maximum viewing distance is 8 feet. The projector could sit as far away (until it is stopped by a wall) 8-1/5 feet. Will the resulting picture be less sharp, less contrasted, or in anyway pixelated/distorted with such a small picture (40-60" depending on where I have the projector mounted) for which the projector is not originally designed? 2. I'm assuming I will need an amplifier for audio but where would I buy an excellent digital and HDTV tuner ? 3. Is there an easy way to use one remote to power-on all of the hardware (projector, amplifier, tuner, DVD player)? 4. The room is in a basement and can either have no light, dimmed light from rear ceiling spotlights, or full light from separate fluorescent ceiling lights. Will the specified lumens (1200 for one projector and 1600 for the other model) be enough for all of these lighting conditions? 5. Are there any blurryness, pixelation, or graininess issues from projectors as there can be with LCD television when viewing fast action sports (I noticed some distortion even with the 120hz LCD televisions). 6. I'm sure it depends greatly on the type of screen that I have but how are issues with glare/reflection with projector pictures? For example, during a dark movie scene do you see yourself in the screen or only the action on the screen? Thanks very much for any advice you may provide. I am new to understanding this technology and am trying to make good choices. Jake moreResolved Question: Video processors and Frame Interpolation?
Is there an affordable external video processor that can do effective frame interpolation? I have a home theatre set up with a 1080p projector that operates at 60hz (which does a 3:2 pulldown at the LCD panels), and while I know some higher end HD projectors have an internal processor that does interpolation (to varying success) I was hoping there might be an external option that won't cost an arm and a leg. I was hoping to not spend more than $300-$400. Ideally, the processor would do frame interpolation, AND the 3:2 pulldown before sending it to the projector, thereby removing both types of "shudder" that can sometimes be experienced. Any suggestions? Thanks very much! moreResolved Question: do any companies sell really big tvs(LCD) like im talking around 100 inches?

there are a ridicoulous amount of devices out there, but they can all be placed in a few specific categorys, multifunction cell phones seem to take all of these devices and put them in one. so do you guys think that any of these types of devices will stay dedicated, or just become a cell phone feature 1.pda's 2.good old regular cell phones (the dedicated ones) 3.pmp (portable media players) 4.mp3's (the ipod became the iphone, but what about non ipods?) 5.gps (sure your cell phones screen is small for a car, but in a few years theyll have fold out oled screens like paer which will make up for that) 6.calculators (for those that dont know the iphone is can be a scientific calculator, graphing calculator and !!!3 dimensional graphing calculator!!!) 7.hand held gaming device (hell game developers are abvondoning there trust of sonys psp faster then white people left OJ's, the ds lite is fun and great but cell phones look just like it, can have similar controls and can have a more powerful components) 8.speakers ( i know this sounds far fetched, ha sounds, but speakers ar getting smaller, louder, and better sound quality every day, I wouldnt be suprised is speakers of a cell phone would be used as a cell phone) 9.modems (you really dont want to read this part, i made it to long, but go ahead if you dare) (so youve bought your new $2000 dollar laptop, and your $400 hundred dollar phone, then you go on your smartphone and search the internet, the internet you decide would be a better experience on your laptop, you open it upand theres no wifi foe miles, so you go to buy a modem and find out that the modems contract fee is higher then your cell phones, then you realize that you can connect your laptop to your cell phone and miss the modem fee altogether, sounds like a rock solid idea to me, that's why id never buy an iphone, you cant use it as a mosem, my $50 dollar samsung phone can at 3g speed, and your $500 hundred dollar iphone can't just plain sad) 10.netbooks ( i know this sounds silly, but the only reason cell phones dont have fully featured internet browsers is their lack of power, in 2010 there will be 2Ghz processors in cell phones and 2gigs of ram, current netbooks would be slaughtered on there first birthday if we had cell phones two years from know, now. yeah so what netbooks will also be more powerful, but the only reason I think the cell phone browsing experience hasnt gotten really big is the limiting experience for the power) 11. projectors (oh yeh, if you dont think this is a possibility just research the exponential decline in the literal mass of projectors, at this current rate an HD projector will be the size of an ipod classic by 2013, and by 2017 the will be the size of the built in 2mp camera on your current phone 12. potable hard drives, thumb drives, storage devices in general, the mass to storage ratio of SSD's to regular hard drives are going to be caught up to hard drives by 2012 (for example, largest storage capacity of a 2.5 inch hard drive by 2012, 2TB, largest storage for SSD 2.5 by 2012 2048GB), by 2015 512GB's of SSD's will fit on a 1.8 inch drive or even more storage 13. DVR's (tivo, directtv, and a slew of others), your home computer is already as capable as a current DVR if you have vista, also that capability is rumored in apples next OS update (yes that's right apple lovers, underneath the surface leapord is missing out a whole bunch of stuff) things such as the size of the archos pmp's are already fully fledged dvr's, and several differeint applications have come out for smartphones, most notably the one for the iphone, I forget the name of the app, but its there and its kicking 14. flashlights, even thougth the average person dosnt have one of these on them it still comes in use at times, come on admit it, youve used your psp, ds or ipod as a light in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but lcd's auctually arent that bright compared to future tech, oled screens dont need a backlight and can be as bright as 800 lumens, thats like a painfully strong flashlight, or FED which is slow to pick up momentum but is rumored to be even brighter with no backlight 15. keys, keys to everything, including your car, house, and anything else you can out fit a electronic automatic lock with 16.credit cards, this tech is already emerging for busses in europe, but what about safeway, pizza hut and that shaddy aldut store around the corner 17.mirrors, lady's will like this and it is out there, one way mirrors that turn into bright multitouch screens when fliped over 18.remote controllers, since phones these days are quickly adapting to multi touch screens, and not to long ago strange named new companys were popping up every where with dedicated touch only universal remote controllers, this didnt go over well because of most of the different companys didnt have suficient funding, the technology at that time wasnt advanced enough, and people are used to buttons, but moreResolved Question: Home Theatre Projectors?
