Open Question: Stressed over college and career choices?

In the past week I have had two complete nervous breakdowns because of college related stress. My boyfriend and I recently moved into our first apartment, and we've paid all of our bills on time, had no issues that were very big until the fall semester started and within the first week not only did I have to dish out fifteen hundred dollars out of pocket because the university lost a paper that was required to verify class payment, now I'm finding out that I have signed up for a major VERY wrong for me. I've had two years college experience prior to transferring to my current university. I was at a community college and they were far more professional in dealing with financial matters. I'm going to have grey hair and I'm not even legal drinking age yet.. I chose to major in education to become an elementary teacher when I transferred because I had gotten all of my basics out of the way and I'm very comfortable dealing with young children, not to mention the recent recession had me thinking about jobs that don't normally suffer as much during fluctuations in the economy. Teaching has a great deal of financial security on top of guaranteed vacation time on top of benefits the only downside is the stress factor can be high and it's for a lower end pay. But if it's something I can build off of then it's worth it, or so I thought. I walk into my classes and come to find out that even my previous science major classes when I had been considering that field were far easier and less stressful than a writing intensive children's literature class. And I'm finding this really ironic and completely horrifying because my best subject has always been literature and English. I've never made less than an A in those classes. So the problem is now I know I need to change my major as not only am I incapable of taking fifteen hours of complete brain overload classes one of which being Spanish which I didn't want to take in the first place because I'm interested in other languages and hated it in high school. I've spent over two years trying to find out what I want to do for a career or even for a major. I've taken tests on the Internet, tests given by the school, I've searched the Internet, researched book stores, all-in-all gone to great effort to find ANYTHING that I might be interested in but anything I liked was immediately in the "get lucky" category as in you cannot make money in this job unless you have outstanding talent and charisma, both of which I lack--charisma considerably. I'm artistic, but I don't want to starve. Really it's becoming ridiculous and I'm going to college, wasting my hard earned money in the hopes that I can secure something that will keep me out of debt and then some in the future, but I'm kind of giving up unless I can find something. I love to draw so I considered some type of design, but if I become a designer I'm afraid I'll grow to hate the hobby I love now because I'll have someone above me, or a client who will say jump and I'll have to ask how high as that is the part they tend to leave out when telling you how wonderful and creative design jobs are. I want some direction yes, but I also want a lot of freedom if I'm using my creative skills in a job. Also I enjoy writing, but the same issue comes into play there too. I'm a huge video game fan and I think it might be a little fun to be a video game designer because it involves a story, visual, and audio art, but the university I'm attending doesn't offer it, and I can't go somewhere else because my boyfriend is going to school here and I have to consider him as well. (Of course he's thrilled because he's known exactly what he's wanted to do since he was five, be a wildlife biologist.) It isn't that I haven't thought about it, I've thought about what I want to do with my life since as long as I could remember, but every time I came to a conclusion I did a little research and in the end the cons outweighed the pros. Does anyone have any suggestions? My favorite things to do are clean, organize, draw, read, be early on all of our bills, crochet, create things in general. I just like to have low stress, it gives me a sense of acomplishment as apparently me being stressed out is increasing more and more. Like just now I'm sitting here typing this, heard a car run into something outside and am stressing that some ignorant first year student hit my car which is parked because it's happened before just last year when some idiot ripped the front bumper off of my parked car because they weren't paying attention. Anyway sorry if I sounded overly pessimistic, I'm just really stressed and I want to know if college is a waste of time and if I shouldn't just go to a tech school or something. If anyone has any potential career or major suggestions Not to be rude, but only give HELPFUL answers or just don't answer. I'm tired of sifting through spam (That carekorner crap is spam by the way. Open Question: dell inspiron 1525, Windows Vista: Audio Problem?

Recently, I needed to install Ufasoft LispIDE into my system. It requestedfor Visual Studio 2010 Isolated Version, but I had Visual 2010 Beta 2. So I uninstalled Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 and then installed the isolated version and installed the Ufasoft LispIDE. After all these, I couldn't hear any sound from my system anymore. The device manager said everything was OK. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool gave an error: "Problem getting extra sound info". I tried reinstalling the sound driver but to no avail. Help please! more

Open Question: Selling prices on electronics? Stereos, Keyboards, TVs?

Okay. I'm selling a bunch of stuff that I don't need. The issue being, I have no idea how much to sell it for! I've looked at the one thing that I know should be a decent amount of money. It's a Philips FWC579 400-Watt Mini System with a 5 CD Changer. New they go for over 250$. And mine's practically new. CDs all work, volume works all the way up, bass works, woofer works, etc. The only thing that is an issue is that you have to make sure the speaker wires are in a certain way or the left speaker doesn't work [which, I'm told, could easily be fixed by cutting the wire a little shorter and re-stripping the cover from it - I'm not going to try]. How much should I sell it for? Considering the wire is the only issue with the system, I was thinking 100$ or so. Is that too much to ask? It looks brand new. No scratches, wear, or anything. I have a friend who might be interested and I'm thinking of offering it for 75$...? I have a tiny 13" TV that would be good for kids. The only issue with it is that it has a burn mark from where the light-bulb in my room got too close too long and I didn't notice it in time, but other than that it's perfect. No colour issues, no visual problems, no audio problems, etc. It's an RCA E13208GY model TV. I saw people selling their used ones for 40$. I was thinking 20$ if possible. Sound good? To be honest, I'd let it go for 10$ just because it's from like '97 and it's such old technology. I have a second TV. It's a 19" RCA BD1900. The DVD player in it doesn't work, but everything else does. There are no problems with the "looks" of it. I was thinking 20$? I have a second Stereo, too! It's a Philips FW-P880 Stereo. No issues at all. It's only missing one speaker. I was thinking 20$ as well? I have a Yamaha PSR185 Keyboard. It's like new. Keys all work, has the stand for the music and the stand for the keyboard itself, and the power cord. No issues, it just needs to be cleaned up [it's a little dusty!]. I see them going for 25-50$ used [50$ for one with the power cord, 25$ for one with the cord and without the music stand]. I was thinking 25$-ish? I have a set of weights, too. It has a set of dumbbells and a barbell. There's 4-20lb weights, 2-10lb weights, and 2-8lb weights. They're like new. I don't think they were used more than a few times. The holders for the weights come with them as well. I have no idea at all for these. I don't know how much a set of weights goes for. I see brand new ones going for 150-300$ depending on the model and weight amounts and what-not, but I'm clueless. Any ideas? Other than the tvs, the stereos, keyboard, and weights, all I have is two stands [a t.v. corner stand and a book stand] that I'm selling to the first person who wants them for pretty much any price [they're old!]. I have old gaming systems that we *might* be selling. We just don't use them anymore and they're just sitting there. Haha. So yeah. Other than those there's really nothing that I can ask about at the moment. So are the prices a good amount to ask for them, or am I bad at this guessing game? more

I'm making some videos on movie maker, and for the audio/music i have put a backing track, and i wanted to rap over it, so i found out the only way to do this is to video me and put it in the video section. The thing is, i don't want to be seen in the video, so i want to have a picture or block colour as the background/visual of the movie. The question is, is it possible to overlay a picture onto the video ? i know how to upload the picture, and i know that you usually put it in the video section, but that's already taken up by my video. my dream is to produce a video game engine interface which can take audio samples, placing them in position in space, allowing adding effects to be applied to them in a chain, identifiers of which would look like decals on race cars or something, or simply having an accessible menu or separate "box" come up which contains the chain of effects that were like 3d shapes with lines connecting them in order. if this is confusing, i will tell you what i'm planning to do: 1. mathematics for game design course (currently taking) 2. two courses which create 2d and finally 3d game engines utilizing video card, directx effects, and shaders 3. create an audio sequencing app 4. steal c++ code from "buzz" for effects (or simply program them myself with the formulas on wikipedia) within the game engine, the user will manipulate sound events like shapes grabbed by a "hand" and then, like a basic 3d animation app (like bryce) will be able to say where the sound will be at times, with it performing intermediate rendering of the sound in the path it must travel. the other dimensions will be effects affecting the sound over a certain time, and in the case of echoes or reverb, these would create actual physical representations that can be physically manipulated in a logical "solid" way. extra features would include intuitive "wizard" style things to make 45 minutes of audio sample and effect sequencing be possible to perform in 5. the thing is, not only could this make 3d audio production easy, it would automatically created the coolest 3d video that wasn't poorly constructed to go with the music, it would BE the music. i plan to use c# and visual studio, which i get for free as a student.i really shouldn't reply to that first answer... part of what i described in much detail is "those screensavers based on music", but my idea is: "video game engine within which the user has the power to use "buzz" meets "bryce"" it would be worth hundreds if not thousands to music producers, and is the dream application _i_ wish i could use. i may not even want to release it. stuff like this exists, but they don't sell it. people make electronic music with it. i assume: 2 years for the game engine and all interface elements 3 years for the audio sequencer and effects 2 years for the extra features i'll know on my own within 2 years how long the rest will take and will have the basic game engine done. more

im good at observing, im good at coming up with ideas, im good at giving advice infect i've given people advice and because they didn't fallow through with it they got held back and i know if they listened to me then they would be ahead right now im bad at spelling ok at reading reading but i read slow and will often forget stuff i read, one of my teachers said i was a visual spacial thinker and other teachers said i was an audio learner i got back this structure of intellect test that said im a good audio learner, i've had a lot of support in school i was looked at as stupid as the other kids because of my low reading skills and poor spelling skills, i always had a scribe in class with me later on in school but the teachers looked at me as i was extremely bright. Hey everyone. If your an advanced user in Visual Basics 2008 Express Edition, I could use some help. Right now, I'm working on a video presentation program for my Home Theater PC. I'm planning on hooking up my computer to my T.V and using it as a secondary screen. I will then run an HDMI cable to my monitor, and use that as my main screen. My mouse and keyboard are wireless so it won't pose a problem. But, anyways. I'm getting off topic... I made a form with a bunch of controls on it. It has 10 textboxes for video URLs and 5 textboxes for audio URLs. I know the coding for that, its just I need to know how to control the 3rd Media Player, on a different form. So basically, the 3rd Media Player would copy the 1st media player. Resolved Question: Sony Vegas 8.0 audio lagging?

Whenever I try to play my video in the preview window on Sony Vegas Pro 8, it only plays about a second of audio, then it starts to lag and I can't hear it any more. The visual still plays without lagging, it's just the audio that is giving me a hard time. It only does this sometimes, and it hasn't always done this, it's a new thing. I am creating an Animoto video for my English class. The goal is to create a book-turned-into-a-movie type commercial. The book is "The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More" by Roald Dahl, a collection of short stories. I have the visual part of the video done greatly, but I can't seem to figure out the audio part. I want just some simple background music to go with it. The problem is, the book keeps switching the mood ("Save the animals!" to "I'm a robber!" to "Oh! Treasure!" to "Save the animals or shoot me!" to "I'm a yogi! Ok Hi! I am a musician and I made this video on YouTube...well let's be honest; a kick A$$ video and I feel like I need to do more to get it out there. Yes, I know...I posted it a few days ago and am definitely impatient. BUT, this is not my first rodeo. I've used Facebook to promote my videos as well as commenting on the highest traffic videos with the most views trying to promote my channel for a while now. Except this time I feel like this video is really good and it deserves some attention. I wrote a song, and recorded myself playing each part and wanted to put it on YouTube. So I amassed a compilation of Time Lapse videos (the best on YouTube) and created a viewing element to keep the viewer interested and to stimulate some sort an audio-visual response. I will provide a link so you can judge my video and either encourage me (I would appreciate that) or just tell me plain and simple "you suck" (well, I guess I would appreciate the over-the-top honesty). Also, when I comment on other videos saying, "check out my band! Thank you!" I feel like a total dick for spamming and I don't particularly enjoy this act. So basically I am asking (if you read to this point, kudos), can anyone help me brainstorm ways to promote my band on YouTube or Facebook? I also don't have pockets lined with cash if you know what I mean. So basically nothing that cost money. I am willing to pay in time and effort and sweat but our band fund has been low for a while. Some of these programs I don't know what there used for so therefore I don't know if its safe to uninstall it. Voting Question: How to do you synchronise pictures/video clips and music in the new Windows Live Movie Maker?

Hi, I used to do little fan videos of my favourite films etc. and synchronise them to music using the old Windows Movie Maker. I used to zoom in on the "picture" of the audio track so I could see when exactly the beats came and I was able to change the images in time with the beat. In the Windows Live Movie with the Windows 7 I just got I can't see the visual depiction of the audio track. How can I see this? Why don't they have it? more

My 14 year old daughter has always said she sees people and i haven't taken much notice. Over the last year to 18 months she says she hears voices, sometimes multiple voices and has been experiencing audio and visual hallucinations. She genuinely believes its some kind of psychic strength. However in the last year the voices are asking her to seek revenge on their killers and asking her to harm herself and her sisters. She hasn't done this but now cannot handle whats going on in her head and to be honest neither can i. She is very angy and tearful all of the time because she cannot control the voices or visions and its totally changed her personality. She has gone from being a very outgoing and happy to teen to a miserable, angry and unhappy person. After several months of going back n forth to the doctor, i have finally got a child psychologist to talk to her and us as a family. Initially we were told we would have a 1 hour consultation. This became 2 hours and at the end we were told he needs at least another 4 sessions with her to tell us whats wrong. He also advised us not to undermine what she is going through because she IS hearing and seeing stuff and its real to her and frightening. He did say that as this stage we cannot say she is schizophrenic or suffering phsycosis. He did say she has low self worth and she is anxious. He also advised that she is displaying a complex set of symptoms. I am so worried about her. I would like to hear from anyone else who has experienced this with their teenager and how long it took to get a diagnosis and what the outcome was. The chap asked my daughter if she felt suicidal and she said she does. He said that she is not an emergency as she hasn't tried to take her life or threatened anyone Else's life. Obviously i dont want it to come to that either. We have to go back in 2 weeks. Thanks for your time more

Voting Question: My bf works way too hard!?

He got hired at the nicest hotel in our county. It's a 4 star diamond resort and spa. He originally was hired as just a front desk agent, but with in the first day was promoted to Manager. Right now he is on "probation" salary, and goes in at 530am and leaves around 2pm with out a lunch break. Lately he's been forced to work over time, go to meetings AFTER working and works as valet, front desk, registration AND Manager work. I don't know anything about jobs because I have only had a few that didn't really last, I am a full time student. but he is working SO hard and he has cancer! He won't ask for time off or not to do so much, or make other people do it I don't understand. He says "jobs don't work that way" I'm really worried about him because by the time he gets home all he wants to do is sleep so I don't get to see very much of him. And he uses my car so I can't go anywhere during the day. At work his boss ("director of rooms") pushed EVERYTHING onto him, because he doesn't want to do it and he usually takes over the A.V(Audio and Visual) as well as catering, and showing off the hotel because those people do not show up for work and they are extremely understaffed! (When he does these things he gets $30 an hour extra) His boss has "adjusted" his and many other's pay checks every pay period because he is going over on hours, and now four out of 6 of his guest services people are leaving and his boss has not found anyone else to work! His boss got demoted yesterday because of all of this, and I know my bf will be given even more responsibility. Yesterday my bf came home and said he wanted to go back to just doing guest services because he is so stressed, but I know they would just make him work the same with less pay! He is extremely good at his job and at everything he does, his bosses boss really likes him, and tells him all the time how good he is at his job. What can I do? He has his Computer science certificate I don't know much about it but we live next to "Silicon valley" so I know he could find a job there, but he likes his hotel job, and he also has his Hazardous materials, A license, B, Motorcycle and C class since he used to drive cars and make way more bank but it's a long drive to that job since he moved in with me... I have my laptop hooked to my TV via HDMI cord. The DVD is of an older television series and I don't think it is an HD dvd. However, the picture looks very strange. It appears to be moving just a step too fast and sometimes the audio and visual don't synchronize. This doesn't happen when I watch the same DVD in a regular DVD player. new dvd player with HD and standard cords. Have attempted to try it on every channel, attempted to hook it up to the VCR which works only if being used. N64 works by connecting it to video connection on the side of the tv. Need to get DVD player to work. Tried many combinations with the wires going directly to the tv, no response in visual or audio (had dvd playing to check). Tried it where we put the N64 in, it makes a sound and shows up in black and white. Not a good sound, the sound when you put the wire in the wrong spot. Im just wondering If I have any symptoms of Schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders. I talked to a psychologist and they said that I can be checked for a mood disorder although I didn't tell them anything about my psychotic symptoms of some sort of schizophrenia, or other disorder. Here are the symptoms I've been having for years since I was 4-6 (Im 13) -Delusions -Thinking that someone is trying to poison me -Hallucinating (Visual && Audio) -The feeling of being followed, the thought of being followed -Moods changing from highs to lows -Thinking im a superhero, have powers -Someone is listening to my thoughts -Someone is controlling me -Hearing voices in my head when I cover my ears -Paranoia of someones out to get me, to kill me, my friend/family or stranger is out to get me or a plan to hurt me in some way -Scared to go in a certain room for someone will attack me -frequent staring into space -being in a uncomfortable spot for hours but not moving at all or blinking rarely because im paranoid that someone knows im there, or just cant move/doesnt feel the need to move. -Doesnt speak for a whole day while spending a day at someones/with someone or sometimes just doesnt talk for awhile but wants to talk but cant even when alone -feeling powerless when being looked at, not able to move, sometimes feelings are overwhelming -telling people things like "remember when" or other stuff that they've said or done, or telling them before we went to somewhere and they dont remember at all -mixing up dreams with reality/thinking reality is a dream -feeling of not being alive, not being able to feel, blacking out for a few seconds or a few minutes, thinking that life isnt real, extreme dizziness -manicly depressed at time and sometimes tends to cut self to see if alive, or to see if I can feel, or cuts to the intention of suicide but stops at a certain thought of realization, or sometimes burns self (cuts are sometimes very deep, burns are sometimes severe) -thinks im on a different planet, everyones an alien -doesnt speak to anyone at all for amount of days -stays away from contact in humans, locks self in room for days -doesnt eat for amount of days of so -feelings of hostility when thinking about certain stuff or thinking their trying to kill me or their trapping me -aggressive at times when overthinking or sad -thinking that something inside is controlling me, telling me to say stuff -halting my speech while im about to say something or in a mid sentence, then the person the person tells me to keep talking and I dont know what their saying, I dont remember at all or I say a full sentence, or laugh, or say something really random and has nothing to do with anything then I say "HOLY SHIT DID YOU JUST LAUGH LIKE THAT?" or "DID YOU JUST HEAR THAT PERSON" or "Why did you say that" then they say "you did that" and I didnt know I did that and I argue with them trying to tell them It wasnt me. but they eventually convince me that it was me -I look outside at the sky or something outside and EVERYTHING is timelapsed, everything goes so fast, I look away then look back or blink then everything is back to normal -I hear things, the voices seem distorted, kind of from a radio when its losing its signal and its all fuzzy. I hear the voices but I dont know what their saying. Or someone, a little girl, or a lady, old man tells me something, like giving me a clue, I listen and try to find them, but I stop myself and say to myself that its not real. I have more weird things but this is too long but hopefully someone can help. more

I download torrents from kickasstorrents.com and i use utorrent to download them. however, when i go to play them (movies), they are in .avi format so if i click on them it opens them in Media Player with only the sound playing. i have a converter (Any Video Converter) which helps but when i convert my movies it messes up the audio/visual pairing which annoys me so much is there a way to download torrents so i can watch them right away without having to get annoyed with the sound halfway through? or is there a better converter? Resolved Question: Can I Get Audio On My HDTV Without Using The HDMI?

Hello all, So I got these cables today for my 15" Macbook Pro. It was a bit of a rigmarole, but I got there in the end. I have a Mini Displayport to DVI-I adapter going to a DVI-I to HDMI connection to get visuals on my Bush LCD32F HDTV. I was wondering if it is at all possible to have it so that I can have audio going from the line-out of my Mac and into the TV, thereby using the TV as an audio output whilst also viewing my laptop on the HDMI input. So far I haven't found any information on if this is even possible, it looks as if the TV simply reads all audio coming from the HDMI cable (by which audio can't be sent from the Mac) and apart from regular RGB phono leads all there are, are 5.1 surround outputs. I have a 5.1 surround sound system, but it is just ridiculous hassle moving such a large set between the upstairs and the downstairs and was hoping there was a simpler method?
