moreOpen Question: Is there a way to only show certain windows on my computer on the projector?
I pull stuff up on the overhead in church alot, straight off of my computer. For a lot of things, I have to go back and forth. Is there a way to set it up so that only certain windows show up?
Example: I have a lesson outline on powerpoint up, but I want to show a video on the internet to go along with it... Is there a way to jump directly from the powerpoint to the video without everyone seeing what I'm doing?
moreOpen Question: What equipment do I need for this conference?
We have a guest speaker coming to a hotel conference room. We have a lap top connected to a projector for power point. We would like to be able to have a live video feed to individuals out of town. We do not have a camcorder at this point. Also, we would like the speaker to be wired for sound. So my questions are what is the best way to do the live feed? What kind of camcorder specs should I be looking for? Is there hardware that I would have to install on the lap top or can I run it through a website like Skype?
Note: We are a non-for-profit organization and the hotel that we host at is not willing to budge on the audio/ video for us and it is too expensive to do on a monthly basis. Thank you very much for your response.

moreVoting Question: How to Hook up PS3 to Harman Kardon AVR 154?
I have an HDMI running from my PS3 to my AVR and an HDMI from my AVR to Projector. I'm getting picture but no sound. I looked through the owners manual and saw this:
The AVR 154 is capable of switching the HDMI data, passing the
incoming audio and video data (including 1080i and 1080p video),
directly to your HDMI-capable video display, without processing any of
the data. Although the AVR154 is compatible with virtually any HDMI capable
source device and video display, a separate audio connection
is required for each source, since the AVR 154 doesn’t have access
to the audio data in the HDMI stream.
Does that mean I need to buy an optical cable too and connect that?
moreVoting Question: LAPTOP EXPERT REQUIRED to help me choose a University laptop please!?
So I have a few weeks before I go off to University to study architecture. I have my specifications for the laptop that I need and I don't have a specific budget, but the cheaper the better. I would say around £500 if possible, but I do need a good quality laptop.
The specs are:
- MUST BE A WINDOWS LAPTOP (no macs)
- Preferably Dual Core or Quad Core
- min 2Ghz processor
- Accelerated graphics processor (preferably NVIDIA or ATI)
- RAM min 2gigs
- Built in WiFi
- Ethernet ports (RJ45)
- Video port for monitors/projectors
- min CD/DVD drive
The longer the battery life the better (but not a deal breaker), the laptop should be able to handle running AutoCAD/Ecotect/etc (so an average size sceen is needed).
Any suggestions welcome!
ThanksThose specs were sent to me by the Built Environment department of my University.
moreVoting Question: Where can i get a cheap macbook video cord?

moreResolved Question: How to get cable on a projector?
I am going to be in an on campus apartment this year (sr yr) and we are going to have a projector in the room for tv/movies. We had this setup last year and used a VCR that someone brought up to get the tuner and get cable on the projector. That roommate graduated, and none of the new four of us have a VCR. Is there anything I can buy, preferably just a tuner itself that accepts the standard coax input and puts out component video. I can't seem to find just a tuner, I found a blu-ray vcr combo with tuner built-in, but I'd rather not pay ($300) for the blu-ray aspect. If I could get my hands on say, an old comcast box or something, would that work without a subscription to comcast?
Thanks guys!
moreResolved Question: Good, inexpensive projector suggestions?
I am looking for a fairly inexpensive projector to use mostly with my computer to project TV shoes and music videos, possibly movies too. I need to know what to look for in a good projector. I don't want to spend any more than $300 at the most ideally I want to spend around $150-$200. Any suggestions of projectors or what to look for in a good projector?
moreResolved Question: How can i connect my surround sound to my projector?
Hi All, I just got a new Optoma’s TX542 projector and i was having difficulty connecting my ps3 on it. I have connected the HDMI cable on the projector. the video is working great. but no sound. I want to connect my surround sound, wich has 2 cables the red and white. the problem is there is no sound input from the projector so i dont know how to connect the surrond sound to the ps3. all the projector inputs are: the power cable, the component cables, and 2 HDMI cables. and one service cable(usb, dont know whats that for).i cant go from the ps3 to the sorround sound becouse i already connected the ps3 to the projector with the HDMI cable.
moreResolved Question: is the ACER x1161-3d compatible with iz3d, tridef, nvidia 3dvision, and ps3's 3d?
so i'm VERY interested in getting 3d up and running for my ps3, and i certainly wouldn't mind a larger secondary display for my pc either. so first i found the optoma HD66 on newegg, but one of the reviews reads as follows:
Cons: 3d compatibility is a NIGHTMARE.
3d gaming is nearly unusable. There are 3 major 3d gaming drivers, and between them they cover nearly every directx game one the market. Too bad none of them work reasonably with the HD66:
iz3d: 120hz mode is in beta and is unusable.
Nvidia 3d vision: officially unsupported by nvidia (the driver technically works, and it can be hacked to make it function, but nvidia has already gone to lengths to stop the first workaround so they're likely to do so again)
tridef: doesn't support this mode.
Also, it's not hdmi 1.4 so nearly no bluray 3d players will work.
PS3 3d does not work.
3d broadcasts don't work (though some users have used an avertv dvr card to input the stream, then translate it in stereoscopic player)
Cyberlink powerdvd 10 is not compatible (it relies on 3d vision, which noted above... though it might be hackable)
In fact, stereoscopic player is about it. So you can watch downloaded clips. Whoopdeedoo.
which obviously scared me away from it.
the next one i found is the ACER x1161, which although the specs in the projectors section are confusing me somewhat, appears pretty good. it's compatible with 1080P, although it's native resolution is 800x600. i don't know if that means it defaults to 8x6 but can run 1080P, or can convert 1080P to 800x600, but i'm hoping it's the first.
and i have no clue whether it runs all the different compatibilities listed in that review, except hdmi, which it doesn't have. it has a 4000.1 contrast ratio which i know from regular monitors is really impressive for a projector. i'm also wondering about it's simple connectivity to ps3. are any of it's inputs capable of HD video from my console?
other help in general on just "will this work" greatly appreciated.
moreResolved Question: Is the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K receiver compatible with the Panasonic DMP BD-35 Blu-Ray Player?
I was trying to connect to my DMP BD35 Blu-ray player to the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K receiver with an HDMI cable and that has an output to my projector. However, the audio works great yet no picture shows up. The connection between the receiver and the projector works for sure because the xbox 360 is connected to the receiver and its video shows up. Also the HDMI cable between the blu-ray player and the receiver also works for sure because I have tried two different ones that work in different applications(connecting a TV to a DVR). Is there a setting I need to change on the blu-ray player or do I need to either buy a new receiver or new blu-ray player?I have checked every possible setting that I know of and changed them. Also, the source is definitely correct (i.e. everything is going into the right ports) because the audio works.
moreResolved Question: where can i buy a cheap vcr? I need it for the s video output so I can watch tv on my projector.?

moreResolved Question: Need some input in building a custom PC.?
I have a Espon Home Cinema 8100 projector supporting 1080p res. that stretches out to a possible 110" screen. I'm interested in using it to play some games, such as the upcoming Crysis 2. What kind of spec's would I need on a PC to produce smooth play on the best res. settings reachable for my limit?
I've always played PC games on low end settings because I couldn't handle further, but I spend enough time on these games that I'm willing to invest $$ into being able to enjoy a richer experience.
Atm I'm building a custom PC and here is what I've come up with so far, I've thoroughly searched into each and from what I've seen I'm satisfied, however I still don't have the actual experience. My total budget is indefinitely 2,000$, excluding HDD and OS, although if I could get everything for half that I'd be one happy camper.
-HAF 932 case.
-i7 930 CPU, intend to overclock up to 4GHz.
-ATI HD 5850 video card, considering crossfiring in the future but for 1 card for starters.
-ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard
-A SSD drive -- any recommendations? Within a 250$ budget would be nice.
-OCZ 6GB DDR3 1600Mhz memory.
-PSU -- If I OC the CPU up to 4Ghz and Xfire, what's a reliable PSU and Wattage to use?
-Cooling -- I've heard Megahalem/D14 Noctua/TRUE cooling systems are recommendable, but do they work in compliance with the HAF932 or is another chassis better suggested? Also, would water cooling be better suited? I'm willing to stretch my budget to 200$ for cooling gear alone; I've always wimped out on it going with the cheap stuff and had it come back to bite me. Ideally I'd buy the parts and construct it on my own or use some sort of kit if it came down to WCing.
No new HDD for me, I'll be using an external one I have currently for storing things in attempt to cut down on budget, and the SSD for the important stuff like OS, games, etc.
Is there any other relatively important component I need to think about? I'm no computer whiz, but I have put in lots of hours into research, and I'm confident and willing to do this on my own. I've also posted this same message on several different forums to gather a variety of opinions. At one point I had actually been convinced that some half assed parts were good from a few people, and realized after more searching they weren't all they were said to be, so I'm not doubting what anyone says... I just want to be as safe as possible :)
Budgets:
CPU: 350$
Video Card: 300$(not going to Xfire right away)
Cooling: 200$
Motherboard: 150$
SSD: 250$
Memory: 200$
Chassis: 150$
PSU: 150$
Grand estimated total: 1750. which is 1950 after calculating taxes in my region on purchased parts, leaving 50$ room for shipping should I order online.
So what do you guys think? Please leave your input! Even the advice from a non-professional is invaluable.@bugalugs I don't have an old pc, just laptops lol. I'll be probably be scrapping them.
@ Erick: misinfo on my part, the P6T is at best 250$. Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to find a better bargain. SSD looks nice though for 225, I think it's a winner :)
@Biker Bry: Good points; I've actually had a couple people recommend AMD now. The cheapest bargain here is 290$ for an i7 but prices range. The overclocking part of my decision may be my thurst for power, but I think I'll still be overclocking. I'll consider dropping my budget on cooling to maybe only 50 though, and not overclock so high :)
I'm content with SDD because it offers faster loading speeds and booting, I have only a few several large programs that I use frequently, and I don't have multiple HDD's that I can string together -- call me picky.
I suppose I don't need the SSD or the crossfire right away, I'll construct a working PC without them and can implement later down the road if I deem necessary
Thanks guys!
moreResolved Question: Digital Cable for Projector?
My mom recently bought a projector, not a high-end one but still useful. It is a Digital Galaxy DG-747 i think and it has a coax input for what looks like cable could go into. i tried to plug it in and it didn't work. i emailed the seller who told me that it won't run digital tv through the coax to the projector so i am at a loss. I have one of the little black comcast digital converter box things that only have coax in and coax out. Is there some way to put my cable through to the projector. it has RCA inputs which didn't work with the wii so idk if they are messed up, along with HDMI, and the hd green and blue cords and an S-video input. Is there a cord i can buy that would let me get cable to my projector and watch it or am i SOL. Also, the wii will not recieve a signal which is the message i get from the projector's display. the only thing that works so far is the HDMI input and the computer input because my mom used it with her laptop. that's all i've checked
moreResolved Question: Do you think boys should have Sweet 16 parties too?
I am the youngest of three and my two older sisters had sweet 16 parties and they were really big and my parents spent alot of money on them. I told them I want to have a Sweet 16 party too but they said no because i'm a boy. How do I convince them to throw a Sweet 16 party for me so I can do the father son dance and they can show a video montage of me on the projector screen?
moreResolved Question: What does this mean? (technology help)?
Im trying to buy a vga to rca cable to connect my laptop to a projector or my tv
I was looking at something on amazon and people have mixed reviews for the item
I don't quite know what they are talking about
Can someone translate this into easier english
"This cable is primarily used for connecting video projectors with Component-in capability through its VGA port. It can only function with a VGA port that is either able to receive or transmit Component signals (Y, Pr, Pb)."
moreResolved Question: video image quality been projected?
Alright, some help over here. Well recently my church started to use projectors to show images and videos. For some reason the video looks not on a very good quality. I was wondering what could be done so that this is improved? I am not that familiar with video and image. They changed the camera that they use to record and it seems like it made a change, but not a great one. Could it be the video card on the computer that is receiving and sending the video to the projector? Well, thanks I hope to receive some answers soon. Thanks in advance!

moreVoting Question: Exporting iMovie 08 problem?
Alright, so I want to export my iMovie project onto Youtube, or a DVD, or somewhere!!! It's for a class project. The only thing is that my video is to long to put on youtube (15 minutes), and I've found out that imovie 08 doesn't export to DVDs or cameras! I wouldn't mind splitting the video in order to put it on youtube, but I don't want to have to edit half of the project all over again. Is there a way that I can split the video without messing half of it up and having to reedit it? or is there a way i can export this onto to something that will let me present this in class? I would take my lap top to class but im pretty sure that the projector won't be compatible with the mac. help please!
moreVoting Question: movie maker cutting video?
I have an 8 minute video project in movie maker 2.6 running in windows 7.
this project includes two songs, a few titles on video, and pictures.
the video portions are 1080p HD and it is going to be displayed on a projector for a relatively large screen in my church's sanctuary.
whenever I save the movie file loading skips at points and when I view the finished .WMV file it shows the titles and I hear the music but the video will be missing for up to 30 seconds at a time and sometimes in the majority of the video. do you have any idea how I could fix this as I need it by tomorrow evening.pushied it?
moreResolved Question: How do I hook up computer to projector?
I own a Gateway SX2800-01 that has VGA and HDMI outputs, I'm need to connect to a projector that has s-video and composite video inputs. Do I need a pci card for the PC, or can I use a receiver to carry the video signal?
moreVoting Question: Can you put a RCA video plug on the end of RG6 cable?
I know you can do this and send audio around 100ft. However, here is our situation. The church built in RG6 cable with the intentions of putting up projectors. Ideally, we would have loved if they had run cat5e cable, but we were just brought in now to hook up the projectors. They want to hook up a laptop (VGA out) and from there, RG6 cable is already prerun in the walls to the locations of the future projectors. The projectors don't accept F-connectors. everything but, they have HDMI, RCA, Component. We have browsed the possibility of using a wireless HDMI extender for this, but we are looking at $1k plus just for the equipment to send to 2 projectors.
So the real question here is, Can you send video through a RG6 cable and just use a RCA plug at the end and plug into the yellow video input? If yes, what kind of distance can we sustain before signal distortion and loss? We are talking maybe 20ft to the one projector and 50-75ft to the other depending on which way it is actually ran.
Thanks for any info. We have done a lot of searching, even found the connectors finally, but most of the info I come up with is for using this purpose for audio, not video.

I want to buy a projector that I could use at home that will allow me to play music videos and movies on my wall from a loptop. Where do I look for something like that? What exactly that is? How do I choose a right one? What is the price?
moreResolved Question: My projector got stolen. What I used to do is use a VGA cable out of my laptop to VGA in on my projector . .?
to watch movies. One of my TVs has a VGA input, so I can plug my computer into it. My bigger TV only has HDMI in and S Video in. My question is, what is the best and cheapest method of plugging my laptop into my bigger TV. Is there a VGA to S video. I just want to be able to watch the movies on my laptop on my bigger TV and for some reason the TV doesn't have VGA in!!!!!
moreResolved Question: Coax connector combination?
I need to install a 150'-200' video run from a satellite receiver to a projector. I plan on using RG/6 cable, due to the length of the run (S-video is the only other option on both ends). The satellite receiver has type F connector output, and the projector has a BNC connector as an input. My understanding is that they're just two connectors for terminating an RF signal, so there shouldn't be a problem. Is there any reason you shouldn't mix types of connectors in this way?
Thanks!Video formats are still above my head, but I'm trying to understand what you're saying to me.
We are installing this equipment for a simulcast in a few weeks, so it's their equipment they are providing us. Here is the spec sheet for the projector:
http://www.eiki.com/Products/LC-XT3/Specifications.aspx It's only got 1024x768 pixels, so it's not HD.
The satellite receiver only has a type "F" output, component (Y,Rp,Rb), s-video, spdif, and what looks like a serial port (which I assume is for control).
So, given the projector and the plugs on the receiver we've been given, how would you recommend we connect them over that 150'-200' run?
Thank you so much for your advice and your patience with me!
moreVoting Question: I Had A Dream of Crows and Haunting. Significance of My Specific dream anyone?
I had a dream it started where I was inside a house, it was either haunted or possessed and me and some friends were searching/fighting the house. I wasn't afraid, in fact i felt powerful with them there.
But then day break came and the house had been beaten but I don't think it was gone. So after that I was outside with my friends playing video games on projectors in a messy parking lot huddled in blankets. (Beautiful sunrise)
All of the sudden there was just two of them, a couple, but they were just part of the background, and a crow showed up eating the trash.
I rolled over on it, trying to hurt it, crush it on my back (Which is unlike me, I respect crows) and out of nowhere a murder of them started attacking me. I wrapped myself in the blanket and started rolling to crush them, when one poked through the crack, I grabbed it and twisted my hands as if to open it, but in a non-violent way, allowing the other crows in to bite at me.
(Not part of the dream: When I woke up and checked the time, it was when I needed to wake up for work, 4 am. I checked my alarm and it had been set for 4 pm, I don't usually work this shift either.)
What do you think, any ideas on the meaning/significance of this dream? Also when the crows were attacking I was slightly scared, but not panicked or terrified.

Please change on your own words..
General Information
JVC Kenwood Holdings is a Japanese company based in Yokohama Japan. The company formed from the merger of Victor Company of Japan, Limited (JVC) and Kenwood Corporation (Kenwood) on October1, 2008. The company operates in five business segments. The car electronics segment manufactures and sells car audios, car audio and visual (AV) system, as well as car navigation system. The home& mobile electronics segment manufactures and sells video cameras, liquid crystal televisions, projectors, pure audios, stereo set and portable audios. The professional systems engaged in the manufacture and sale of business land mobile radio equipment, video surveillance equipment, commercial audio, video and display equipment. The entertainment segment is engaged in the plan, production and sale of music and video software, the manufacture of compact discs (CDs) and digital versatile discs (DVDs). The others segment is engaged in the manufacture and sale of radio frequency ID systems, weather satellite data reception systems, other electronic devices, etc. The company has 134 subsidiaries and 11 associated companies.
Integration purpose
Through the management integration JVC Kenwood expanding the scope of previous cooperative efforts, which were limited to such aspects of operations as development production and procurement in common business segments car electronics and home audio, to other existing business segments and facilitate expansion into new domains in addition to reinforcing such business activities as marketing and sales.
As for common businesses, the companies focusing the car electronics business into a strong profit center and increase the profitability of the Home Audio business by expanding the role of J&K Technologies to general procurement and manufacturing and ultimately, position the company as an operating company standing shoulder to shoulder with JVC and Kenwood.
Through such policy, both companies will maximize synergy and enhance unified global corporate value while creating new corporate value. Both companies striving to establish solid positions as world-leading manufacturers specializing in AV products.
Overview of the fiscal year
The global economy in the fiscal year under review continued to be stagnant, affected by the economic crisis that was sparked by the financial turmoil originating in the US. However, signs of recovery have become apparent in some industries as a result of aggressive economic measures taken by governments in a number of countries and economic growth in emerging countries.
Under such circumstances, operating results of the JVC Kenwood Group started recovering in the second quarter, after bottoming out in the first quarter. This was a result of efforts such as structural reforms that were implemented in the previous fiscal year and effect of the merger. The Group posted an operating profit in the fourth quarter for the first time since the third quarter of the previous fiscal year, posting a record profit after the management integration.
Net Sales
Net sales for the fiscal year under review were 398,663 million yen. This reflects the curtailment of the display segment in Europe and the slow recovery in sales in the camcorder segment of the Home&Mobile Electronics business as well as a delay in recovery of order-receiving in the Professional Systems business and shortage of hit movies and music in the Entertainment business. However, the Car Electronics business started recovering in the second quarter.
Net sales for the fourth quarter stood at 93,237 million yen, down only about 11.4 billion yen (10.9%) from a year earlier since the sales increase in the Car Electronics business partially made up for the sales decrease in the Home&Mobile Electronics business.
Compared with the third quarter of the fiscal year net sales decreased only by about 8.9 billion yen (8.7%) partly thanks to a sales recovery in the Professional Systems business.

moreVoting Question: What is this electronic device called?
I need to know the specific name for this device.
Did you ever go into a large store, and rather than using a large television screen or projector, they use 4, 9 or possibly 16 average size television screens all next to each other to display a large video? Each screen only shows a portion of the original signal shown, creating effectively one large screen? Usually the televisions have very small side panels for this.
Q:
What is the name of the electronic device that takes one video input, but can output multiple signals which have been modified to show only 1/4th or a ninth of the original signal? is there any place online where I can buy this online?
The more accurate the answer, the better.
Thanks.
moreResolved Question: How to build my own computer?
The only purpose of this computer tower is to upload my DVDs to it and hook it up to my projector to watch the movies that i've purchased. I need a lot of memory to hold the DVDs, a good graphics card to view the movies and a good sound chip because I will also be hooking up my surround sound to it. No internet, no gaming, no school work, just to watch movies on my projector literally.
I'm fairly new to building a computer. My husband loves to mess with electronics and is real quick to catch on how to do something. So i'm not to worried about it. I found an online guide (link below) on how to do it.
My question is what good parts would I need for this. Below is the list I got from the website. But it's obviously not aimed at what i'm looking for. I was hoping those with more experience can tell me what I should upgrade to (like the 500GB to a 1T and so on). Also I want to know where I can get a really good tower case. I can purchase Alienware Cases off ebay and I love how those look but will it work with the parts i'm getting? Also what kind of cooling system should I get. I heard of fans and some sort of liquid cooling. Opinions and ideas please?

I need to buy some bags that are made like crown royal bags (thin, soft and closeable) but they cannot be crown bags. They will be used to protect video cameras from scratching eachother inside of a pelican case. They won't bounce around but I need a bag for them.
As well, I am looking for the same for projectors.
Anyone know where one can buy various sized felt bags?
moreVoting Question: Weird pervert teacher!?
I have this teacher who is a bit weird in my perspective.. You see, we have isles and so he'll just waltz over next to me and stand there for a few seconds and then walk away. Then he'll do it a gain. And again. And AGAIN. That's all he goes for the whole period except to change the video at his desk with the projector to annoy me again. I tried just about everything except for telling him he's a pervert straight-forward. I have even teamed up with my guy friends! We made a little fort with our backpacks so that it's blocking the isle. He just kicked 'em aside. It's so annoying! How can I hint to him he's being a creepy pervert stalker? HEELP!
moreResolved Question: Coax to RCA without VCR?
Right now I am using my DVD/VCR's coax in and rca out to transfer my coax cable to rca for a projector. Now, DVD players do not have coax inputs, so I have no way of displaying TV on my projector. I cannot buy an old DVD player of VCR because I would need hundreds of them and need a long term solution. I also cannot simply use a coax to rca adapter because I need audio and video for my projector, while also still using a standard TV (no video out). This also needs to be 100% legal. Thanks
Any Ideas? The cable company charges about $15 per month for a cable box, so that will be around $450 per month in total, and over $5,000 per year. Is there another way, such as a tuner that will convert the coax to RCA? Thanks again.

moreResolved Question: For those who have been to waterparks?
Imagine being in line for a new ride. You sit down in your single inner tube facing a pitch black hole. You slowly float towards it till your fully in and it's completely dark. All you hear is sounds of a deserted rain forest. Soft wind breezing towards you. A cricket sings. Soft rustling. Then complete silence. Suddenly a light is seen very far away. your slowly floating towards it, until you gets faster and faster. You reach the light and it just looks like a white, bright wall. Your going towards it and it seems if your about to bump into it. Then all of a sudden, there was a slide the whole time near the white wall. You slide and slide. Then some Electronic Ambient music starts playing. Then the slide leads to a room filled with objects floating around you in slow motion. Cans, bottles, chairs, etc. Everyday objects. Then a TV floats in front of you with a black and white show on. The man on the TV say's "Nothing is what it seems" over and over on a constant loop. Then all of a sudden, A big wave appears in the distance. As it gets closer it grows in size. Suddenly when your about to be smashed by the wave, you slide into another room. You slide into another room with Mechanical Dinosaurs. Long necked dinosaurs are eating grass, drinking water. Then suddenly you hear a old film projector start up. Then a video appears on the black walls. A older man with glasses say's "Nothing is what it seems". Then you see a bright orange light in the distance. It's a asteroid and it's heading towards you. Just as it reaches it's max you finally slide outside with the bright sun hitting you.
From what you just read, would you go on this ride?
And no, I'm not on drugs :)
