Just since the summer is coming to an end I just came to a conclusion that last summer there was a lot of good songs that came out. But this summer most of it been not that great. I just feel hip hop music is slowly disappearing & most of the songs that go far on the billboard chart always have a pop singer on it which is the reason why people like it. Just what do you think ? moreResolved Question: Does anyone read The Rolling Stone magazine?
I subscribed a few months ago thinking it was an all Rock magazine. I thought it might have helped me find some good new bands. I was pretty disappointed because they had some pop in there. I thought Billboard was more into the pop scene. Do you like it? He performed in Dallas at the beginning of the month and even though we live about an hour and a half from Dallas I'm STILL seeing car windows painted with all sorts of quotes proclaiming their love for Justin Bieber. There are still billboards and signs all over the place as well. I'm fortunate enough that my girls are too young to appreciate pop music, but I would still like to take precautions if I can. Any tips? BQ: Have you ever taken any of your kids to a concert or show that you had to suffer through? lol moreResolved Question: Seriously, this shitttt is all the same.......?

I loved pop and r&b but now I cant STAND IT!!!! Am i the only one that feels this way??? moreResolved Question: Mariah Carey is the greatest aristest of all time?
Carey's vocal style and singing ability have had a significant impact on popular music. G. Brown from Denver Post said that "For better or worse, Mariah Carey's five-octave range and melismatic style have influenced a generation of pop singers."[195] According to Rolling Stone, "Her mastery of melisma, the fluttering strings of notes that decorate songs like "Vision of Love," insipired the entire American Idol vocal school, for better or worse, and virtually every other female R&B singer since the Nineties."[196] Beyoncé Knowles told that she started doing vocal "runs" after she heard Carey singing "Vision of Love". Carey has had three songs debut at number-one on the Billboard's Hot 100: "Fantasy", "One Sweet Day" and "Honey", making her the artist with the most number-one debuts in the chart's 52 year history Carey is also credited for establishing R&B and hip-hop into the mainstream pop culture, and for popularizing rapper as a featuring act through her post-1995 songs In 2009, Carey's cover of Foreigner's classic, "I Want to Know What Love Is" became the longest-running number-one song in Brazilian singles chart history, spending 27 consecutive weeks at number-one. Carey has spent a record 79 weeks at the number-one position on Billboard's Hot 100, becoming the artist with the most weeks at number-one in U.S. history,[204] On that same chart, she has eighteen number-one singles, making her the solo artist with the most number-one singles in the chart's history.[16][17] In 1994, Carey released the holiday album "Merry Christmas", which became one of the best-selling Christmas album of all time, selling over 12 million copies.[205][206] It also produced the very successful single, "All I Want for Christmas Is You", which became the only holiday song and ringtone to reach multi-platinum status in the U.S.[207][208] It also become the best-selling single in Japan by an international female artist 18 NUMBER ONE SINGLES OVER 300 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFhpgfCDv4U&NR=1 moreResolved Question: Pop music that doesn't contain profanity and that has been on the billboard top 20 in the lastInner city music?

I think pop music today is great, that's why most of their music are like in the top billboard charts all the time. I don't any genre besides pop music made it to the top billboard charts. I want classics, pops, alternative rocks. Upbeat songs are also ok. By 'musics' i mean the ones that are all-time awesomely good to listen to. Obviously, I know the famous ones, such as California Gurls, don't waste your time writing those that are on billboard chart at this time. NO hard rock, heavy metal, or metals please. moreResolved Question: what are some popular Latino artists/songs?
i love Latino music. my spanish teacher recently introduced me to artists that are also popular in the united states like ricky martin, enrique iglesias, shakira, nelly furtado, etc. and some other ones like juanes, david bisbal, daddy yankee, paulina rubio, and many more. but i'm looking to find more songs that are popular in latin american countries...like artists that are on the top billboards. i love pop songs that have a good dance beat...but i'm really open to anything :) thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: Anybody else hate Avril Lavigne?
She makes me throw up in the mouth a little. On her interviews she sounds like an idiot. When she first came out she was all "punk rock." and anti-Britney Spears, now she dyed her hair blond and wears pink all the time like she's a pop princess. Her music is so crappy. Have you heard that god awful song called "Alice." that she released this year? It sounds like all her other previous songs she released before - alot of obnoxious annoying noise that makes no cohensive sense at all. No wonder the Alice in Wonderland didn't sell so well. The song didn't even make the Billboard Hot 100 lol. Something about Avril just screams "SLUT." She's very UGLY and not attractive at all. She also seems and looks like a crazy. Like if you had to picture a female serial killer, her face would come across your mind lol. moreResolved Question: What do you think about Miley's comments on pop music?
She tells Billboard magazine, "I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music. My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, 'You're a sellout!'" Full story here: http://www.torontosun.com/entertainment/music/2010/06/03/14238936-wenn-story.html I really don't think that was a smart thing to say .. like sorry I like her; I know that pop music is what will end up selling most these days and she's just following that trend but still you don't just call out half the singer in the pop scene like that. Some of them actually do like making that type of music. idk.. overall disappointed with her. I thought she was better than to make comments like that. Very gusty and stupid move imo for the type of music that's making her popular/rich. moreResolved Question: read please tell me what u think?

Or you can tell me a twitter. Pls dont mention billboard.com moreResolved Question: Why do metalheads disrespect EVERY MAINSTREAM BAND?
Okay, maybe not every mainstream band. But when I say I like certain bands (Owl City, Hey Monday, etc.), they say "That's children's music. Listen to some Black Sabbath." They just CAN'T understand that metal is just another genre of music! They seem to think pop music is shitty. Well, there's a reason why pop songs and country songs are topping the charts and metal songs usually don't go anywhere near the Top 10 on the Billboard 100. Because people like those songs (not just teenagers and kids). I'm not bashing metal, I'm fine with people's music tastes, but I'm sick and tired of people who don't respect mine and other people's music tastes! I love pop music, and I think it's a great genre. I'd also appreciate it if people understood that their taste is neither better nor worse than mine!@ Katie I"m not saying that! I'm just saying MY TASTE IS NEITHER BETTER NOR WORSE THAN YOURS!! And yes, I have heard of The Smiths! BTW whats your definition of kid's music? Any song that's topping the charts? Any band you don't like! I don't like these songs because they're on the charts! I like them because I like them! Got a problem with that?@ Kip Dynamite I'm a teenager, and i listen to music that teenagers listen to. It's not called "kid" music. Grunge the subculture movement Remember a time when Nirvana, flannel and Seattle was cool, that time was better known as the Grunge era. Music spewed out of Seattle like a waterfall in the 90’s and into American pop culture. The very word grunge in essence means trash, sludge, or grime. This “Seattle Sound” was known by the dirty, heavy guitar riffs that many of the bands trademarked. It was also distinguished by iconic rock stars such as Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder, and various others. Grunge was in, and Seattle would be known as the music capital, and all the world would hear its sound..The Grunge Era in rock heavily influenced the music industry, and fashion of American society. The Grunge sound was now blaring on radio stations with successful bands such as Nirvana, and Pearl Jam at the top of the list. Emerging from Seattle the local bands there did not expect to be signed to any major record labels. Seattle endorsed mostly grunge music which originated from Alternative music that was developed in the 60’s to counter the pop in mainstream music. Although Seattle didn’t have many major record label companies it did promote music with Independent Labels such as Sub Pop. Sub Pop released a three-boxed set called Sub Pop 200, without this highly influential boxed set the sounds from Nirvana, and Soundgarden wouldn’t have even been heard throughout the world. Seattle entirely revolutionized the playing field for the music industry. Great bands would no longer have to play in the few confined centers like New York, or Los Angeles to get noticed. Seattle showed the music industry that there’s a scene going on everywhere even in the backwater places no one knows about, all you really have to do is look (Bell). The pure force of Seattle Grunge bands was so powerful that it provided a economic market of its own. Seattle was a haven for Alternative Rock. Music became such a large proportion of the economy that out of the one hundred, and forty dollars ten billion dollars a year that Generation X would spend, ten billion dollars of it would go to the music industry. The seven best Seattle band’s record companies profited with over two hundred million dollars in gross revenue from the sales of their albums (Bell 2). The almost unheard of Nirvana were getting more airtime from radio stations, would go on to sell four million albums in early 1991 with their hit album Nevermind. Pearl Jam would also come to sell four million by the end of the year with their album Ten (Freind 2). In a sense it was Nirvana mania Jack Endino implies this perfectly when he states “92 was the year Nirvana knocked Michal Jackson off the charts…Soundgarden was doing better… It was suddenly the cover of ------ Time magazine” (Heylin). With every genre of music there is a common theme. The Seattle Sound is directly uniform with the youth culture in the area (Bell). No one say it better than Duff McKagen bassist for Guns n’ Roses when he states “You gotta understand Seattle, it’s grungy, people are into rock and roll, and they’re building airplanes all the time, there’s a lot of noise, and there’s rain and musty garages. Musty garages create a certain noise” (Azerrad). By 1992 Nirvanas Nevermind was number one on Billboard’s pop album chart (Marin). Nirvanas song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in the Nevermind album also became the anthem of every anguished teen of the era with its catchy riffs, and depressing weary lyrics (Freind). “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was so popular that it was constantly running four or five times a day on MTV, and was put into its Buzz Bin in September 1991(Marin). College age students and other members of Generation X related to this music as it was a time when they were looking for a sense of belonging, and self identity, of which they had found through grunge music (Bell). Few individuals were as talented, and influential for grunge music as Kurt Cobain. Although not the original founders of grunge music Kurt Cobain, and his band Nirvana where credited as announcing to the world that’s it’s the end of one era, and the beginning of another. Although Cobain never intended to become the generation’s spokesman, he wasn’t given a choice. He came from a time of greed, designer drugs, and image-driven celebrities, otherwise known as the 80’s. He didn’t want to be a hero, but people were willing to accept anyone they felt was real. The public reacted to his sound, and loved it, even while he was struggling with fame, drugs, and his identity he still captured his generations through his music (DeCurtis). Other Seattle bands owe a dept to Nirvana without their financial success Sub Pop would have gone bankrupt, and wouldn’t have been able to sign other grunge bands (Bell). Cobain’s song “Smells Like Teen Spirit” was one of the defining moments in rock history it was a scream of rebellion, alienation, and rejection of societies commercialism from the youth culture of the day. In many ways it was Nirvana who brougbrought grunge to the mainstream, their success marked the end of the 80’s, and the beginning of the 90’s. Cobain’s last words in his suicide note echoed “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”. (DeCurtis) Seattle wasn’t just known for its music, it was also characterized by the fashion that originated from the region. Seattle drew in the youth of the area, and was conveyed as “The biggest town in the middle of a large nowhere” by Alden and Gilbert. Originally people would wear flannel, and Doc Marten boots to demonstrate against the fashion industry, it was an anti-fashion protest against the fake flashy style that the 80’s was known for.(Bell) People didn’t just start to randomly dressing up as lumber jacks with their flannel shirts , and leatherettes. Flannel shirts were worn as a safeguard against the Pacific Northwest climate(Marin). The black noise sound and smelly caveman look became vastly fashionable. Before you knew it everyone was wearing flannel. Designers saw theirDesigners saw their opportunity to profit from the grunge scene, and so this marked the beginning of the end for the grunge movement. (Bell) Soon it became a fashion statement to wear clothes that look like they were bought from Goodwill or worn as a hand-me-down from an older sibling. The anti-fashion protest had back fired on itself; the clothes that they wore were so publicized by the media, that it became an insult to the very music that inspired it. Models would be strutting in ski caps, combat boots, and dirty hair in fashion shows. Stylists were even being asked by young models to make their beautiful hair look a little bit greasier. It takes only one season to steal styles, and put it in the runway, but it takes about three years to see it at a store. Grunge however was different it was already at the store, and it was even on sale at Kmart, and the Salvation Army. Grunge became an easy target for designers, and commercialism. Just as grunge music had sold well to the publicso had grunge apparel, rich teens that were to proud to shop at the very place grunge fashion started the local Goodwill, would purchase overpriced commercialized clothes in shopping malls. There they would be buying a pair of purposely ripped jeans for 150$, and intentionally faded, and fringed flannel shirts for 65$. The former point to grunge fashion was to wear things that were cheap and looked cheap this purpose was destroyed by commercialism. (Bell)Basically my points are Music Industry & Fashion Could I get some brainstorming plllz What else is characterstic of Grunge ? THx Please evaluate this as a english teacher moreResolved Question: Please check if there are errors in this paragraph?
There are many languages spoken throughout this world, but there is one that everybody speaks. Music is an universal language to all people and nations. As time goes by, more and more musical genres have been born, such as classical, folk, pop, rock, heavy metal, rap…Different kinds of people will prefer different kinds of music. As for me, I like rap music the best. And I’m here today to talk about my favorite rapper, Eminem. Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), known by his primary stage name Eminem, or by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer and actor. He had a rough childhood that reflects to now, and makes great records and songs that describe his life and what has happened during it. For Eminem, the road to success was long and hard. But he has proven that with a lot of desire, drive and dedication, anybody can accomplish even their greatest of goals. Eminem gained popularity in 1999 with his major-label debut album The Slim Shady LP, which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The following album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the fastest-selling solo album in history. The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, The Eminem Show also won Grammy Awards, making Eminem the first artist to win Best Rap Album for three consecutive LP's. He then won the award again in 2010 for his album Relapse, giving him a total of 11 Grammys in his career. Eminem is the best-selling artist of the decade, and has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide to date, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Eminem was ranked 82nd on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time. In December, 2009 Eminem was named the Artist of the Decade by Billboard Magazine. Despite his amazing achievements, he is one of the most controversial artists. Teenagers and young children seem to really enjoy Eminem's lyrics but parents and the media are outraged. Eminem doesn't hold his tongue for anyone and this is part of the problem that the media has with him. You don't have to like him but you can't ignore him. Eminem is one of the most if not the most talented rap artist to ever step up to the microphone. Thanks in advance! moreResolved Question: Would you say most of todays #1 hits are crappy?
Like, you find that most hits aren't composed of much talent anymore. (used to it took talent to be a hit? unless it was a goofy song like achey breaky heart..:P) And do you think it's to easy/manufactured for people to make a hit song these days? one example that comes to mind is the song 'umbrella' by rhianna. ..The song was first offered to Britney who turned it down. Like people.. just write up.. these pop songs they know will reach high, if not #1 in the billboard, due to today's 'taste' in music? They just write them up..and throw them around like nothing. how many songs even seem genuine anymore? it's just like "oh..another pop song" actual, if you wiki pop music, you will further see that more people are veiwing pop as a style/way of making music rather than just mean "popular music" (Mj is 'king of pop' because of how 'popular' his songs where.) for example by wiki I mean..if you look at the first paragraph it reads: "Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short and simple love songs and utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes." Though one the first definitions refers to it's origin:" The term "pop song," is first recorded as being used in 1926 in the sense of a piece of music "having popular appeal". "Your right Kelsey, although someone said something about gaga that made me bring this up anyways. They always say "she will has as many #1 hits as ____ (sometimes MJ, betles, etc..)" or that "she will probably have more #1 hits and faster, too" Personally, lady gaga disgusts me, but thats for a later topic. My point is, the same people that say most current-pop sucks also say Lady gaga is the best because of how many "#1 hits she has". Do they understand what they are saying- Basically, they are saying Lady gaga is so good, and since there is no competion these days, she get's #1's more easy. (I don't agree lady gaga is 'so good', more like has 'a large appeal to the youth masses' in my book.) speaking of youth..it seems like everyone is really young to make music or focuses on a young generation. this includes gaga...I mean you dont see songs like "billie jean" (adult topics ) or people like the eagles..or steve miller, styx, etc..not even rick james. moreVoting Question: What songs does your local radio station play alot?
Here's the overall top 100 songs http://www.billboard.com/charts?tag=nav#/charts/hot-100. My local station's most frequently played seems pretty different though and I figure its the same for most people. The songs I hear most on my local radio station are in no order. Heartbreak Warfare, Two is Better than One, Need you Now (which is also in the top 5, however i've heen hearing it less in recent weeks despite it being #4 nationally), Telephone (which is actually in the top 5), and According to You. All are decent songs, but I swear I haven't heard the top 2 songs but a few times. How does your local "pop/hit" music station compare to the list?Oh and Life After You, that's probably top 10 where I live despite not even being top 35 nationally. moreResolved Question: Proofreading/Editing help?
Please edit my one page summary on Rihanna [singer], I might have a lot of grammar errors..? Born on the 20th of February 1988, Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a singer and songwriter from St. Michael, which is a small county located in the islands of Barbados. She is influenced by singers such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, and Mariah Carey, and makes similar RNB and Hip-Hop music. Known by her stage name ‘Rihanna’, she's the first female artist to have six #1 singles in the United States since 2000 and has sold more than 12 million copies of her albums, a number soon to increase after the release of her fourth studio album, “Rated R”. With no doubt, Rihanna is one of the hottest singers of the decade. Rihanna lived the life of a normal girl, and never imagined she would be so successful. She grew up in an average house but didn’t live in the best neighborhood. After meeting Evan Rogers, a producer from New York who was on vacation in Barbados, her life was about to change. She was sixteen when he arranged for her to meet Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter, who was the CEO of Def Jam Records. Before and during the auditions, Rihanna said she was “nervous as hell!” But right away, Jay-Z got her to sign a contract for six albums; he knew she was going to be big. It was said that she didn’t even leave the building until four in the morning to fill out and sign papers. That literally is the definition of overnight success! In a matter of weeks, the first single titled “Pon de Replay” from her first album hit the radio. Her very first album “Music of the Sun” spawned two other hits that made it to the Top 40. Eight months after the release of her debut album, “A Girl Like Me”, her second album, boasts Billboard Hot-100 chart-toppers “SOS” and “Unfaithful”. On March 29, 2007, Rihanna released a new single with an edgier style, look, and sound. “Umbrella” reached the top spot in Billboard’s Hot-100 and kicked off her upcoming third album, “Good Girl Gone Bad”, which sold just under 8-million copies in the first week of its release! It was the singer’s third album that made her an international pop star with a regular presence on the charts. Ofcourse, no one can mention Rihanna without talking about the night she was brutally assaulted by her 20 year-old ex-boyfriend, pop star Chris Brown. In February of 2009, she wasn’t able to perform or even attend the 2009 Grammy awards because it was around the time Chris’s violent beating took place. No one has said anything about why it happened; Rihanna and Chris weren’t willing to open up. After the beating, Rihanna immediately ended their one-year relationship even though Chris tried his best in order for them to stay together. Sentenced to five years of probation, Brown also had to complete 6 months of community service and take anger management classes due to his actions. Even though she was a victim of domestic abuse, Rihanna learned how to forgive Chris and move on. “I actually love and care about him,” says the singer. “I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life, and grow up. And take this as something you had to go through in order to grow up and learn”. [Still working on the conclusion] PLEASE PLEASE POINT OUT ANY GRAMMAR MISTAKES AND RUN ON SENTENCES AND THAT STUFF (English is my 2nd language!).. PLUS IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER TIPS THAT WOULD BE GREAT :D Thanks in advance!! moreResolved Question: Give me one reason why Beyonce isn't or won't be the greatest/most successful female artist of all time?

i think Britney Spears! cause in 2003 (or 2004 idr) when madonna kissed britney spears and christina aguliera it was like a passing of the torch and Britney won! i mean maddona is a great singer but i think she stepped back. Ok, I have nothing against Ke$ha or any other artist but... Come on people, she doesn't even sing in the song...it is a monotone of her talking throughout the entire song. How is that the best pop song in America? Does that just prove how pathetic and dumb American's tastes are when it comes to music? moreResolved Question: Wack Rappers Excuses?
1)This ain't the 80s no more, all that stuff is old. No body does that anymore. Ok this excuse has been used by too many groupies and fans of these artist. Skill is skill taking the time to improve as an emcee and connecting with the people is a must in hip hop no matter what age you are if you want to use that then why is it that people still bang micheal's old stuff even in this day and age its not because its just old but that he made good music the same with rakim, krs, 2pac, biggie, outkast, or any dope emcee then and now has done. 2)everyone doesnt have to have good lyrics. The most stupid thing I have ever heard people say. so your saying that you just listen to anything that seems pleasing to others. the artist should always atempt to differenciate themselfs and improve their writting. Its like its said before if your message aint shit then fuck the records you sold if you go platnum its got nothing to do with luck it just means a million people are stupid as fuck. maybe some of these wack rappers need to think about this 3)its all about the beat. again and again you hear the same thing that its all about the beat though it is important to have a good production it wont sound right if what is said dont sound right. would you still listen to a gucci song without a beat to it and it would still sound good. 4)im just the ghetto reporter. im the ghetto reporter. they say this same thing to get people out of their case. they say they just telling what goes on in the hood when they actually dont really even connect anymore to their neighborhood if they at all lived in the hood. they could really care less for their supporters 5)calling someone a hater. this is the most overused word that i have heard used. just like love i wonder if people even know the meaning sometimes. just because we decide to give our opinion that we dont think you got tight rhymes doesnt mean we hate on your cash flow we just want to hear more variaty. if you think that skill equals cash then you need to reevaulate the meaning of an emcee 6)thinking that you're dope just because you have Lil Wayne-esque punchlines. just because you can do a couple of punchlines like lil wayne(overrated in my opinion) doesnt mean you are one of the top best out. find your own style to use instead 7)"Homie, let the public decide." That doesn't mean the public of dope hiphop, but the public that determines sales so its more so on popularity and not in their skills. 8)That's dope but... my fans wouldn't understand it". That refers to how rappers think they have to make the same types of songs with the same subject throughout their career. If they started as a gangsta rapper, then they'll always be a gangsta rapper, even if they don't live that life 9)This is what they want." Sort of an excuse that allows them to make songs to sellout and not be individuals and follow what they are told to put out. 10)How are you going to tell me what's dope? You don't even listen to the radio. ((That's for those folks who seriously believe that the Billboard charts and Grammys showcase the greatest of hip-hop)) these guys couldnt even tell you the simple things about hip hop i saw a video of oj da juiceman taking a hip hop quiz and couldnt even get simple stuff that even lil wayne would have at least got. pop charts dont make you dope neither do grammys its what you put into your work rakim or lupe probably would not get many grammys but at least you know they put quality in everywork they do. so these are ten more excuses that are made by wack rappers. they are given no critic as long as they are getting paid but whats wrong with wanting artist to improve their craft there is no hate for making money but as said by WEB du bois a society built on making money makers will not make men but through education can they be liberated. so this is my thought please comment and give your thoughtsim just looking at some of these answers i dont see how these dudes think im a hater i just came to state my thoughts. im just stating what i feel needs to be said im sorry if this affends you (not). what happened to stating a thought but thats why and whats with all the childish insults and talk about the damn topicmy just seen yours duff and i see your point that most wont comprehend that sadly smh but that is the state of things today moreResolved Question: Who will last longer in the music business, Lady Gaga or Ke$ha?
They are currently fresh on the radio waves... Nonetheless, Ke$sha has a lead on Lady Gaga since she debuted at #1 in the Billboard charts kicking Susan Boyle out to #2. On the other hand, Lady Gaga debuted at #2, it took her second single of "The Fame," to debut at #1, meaning "PokerFace." I'm not talking about who has the most awards , etc. My question is simple, every new comer is forced to battle a new comer... For instance, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. They are not my question, I used them as examples. If you decided to go back to 1999, Britney Spears won and continues to reign the pop charts. I don't need any pity questioning her going crazy, etc. So, who will last longer in the music business - Lady Gaga or Ke$ha. They are two very different people from avant-garde to trashy chic. moreResolved Question: R&P: Let's decide -- What are the best songs of 2009 (Round 1 - Part 15)?
The First Annual Rock & Pop Best Song Competition (2009 Edition). Part 15 of the first round. More to come, and you don't have to have voted in previous parts to get started here. Guest Commentary by R&P's own David. MATCH UP 1 Phoenix - "Lisztomania" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BJDNw7o6so Though active since the late 1990s, French alternative band Phoenix did not become international superstars until 2009. This colorful, energetic single helped them achieve the feat. It shares its title with a 1975 musical starring Roger Daltrey as Hungarian composer Franz Liszt (and, of course, featuring Ringo Starr as the Pope). VERSUS Wilco - "Bull Black Nova" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pMJpLEXrT4 "Would you be interested in going to a Wilco concert with me?" "Definitely! I love Wilco" "So I guess we WILCO to the show together!" "...not anymore" Boisterous French synth pop not for you? Perhaps this sinister song from Chicago's enduring and influential Wilco is. Found on their well-received self-titled album, the song's lyrics are told from the perspective of a man who has murdered his significant other. MATCH UP 2 Kid Cudi - "Pursuit of Happiness (Nightmare)" [feat. MGMT and Ratatat] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xzU9Qqdqww Kanye West's quirky, stylish protégé collaborates with indie dance duos MGMT and Ratatat on this song from his debut album. Cudi has been praised by critics as representing "a promising new phase in the genre's evolution." (Entertainment Weekly) VERSUS Mos Def - "Life in Marvelous Times" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2ZrVS5yNdo The lead single from The Ecstatic, celebrated by critics and fans as a return to form for the hip hop icon and actor after the disappointing sales and poor reviews which befell his last album. The rousing song is a survey of his life and career and society at large. MATCH UP 3 Porcupine Tree - "I Drive the Hearse" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj2pWB2S_Jk The fourteenth and final part of a 55-minute song cycle by the English progressive metal band, the aim of which is to "humanize the detached media reportage" (Steven Wilson) of violent crimes and disasters. VERSUS Wavves - "So Bored" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PF9Tu35-pBo Hailed as the catchiest cut from the lo-fi/noise pop/surf band's sophmore album. Lead singer Nathan Williams made headlines when he, high on ecstasy and Valium, fought his drummer and crudely insulted the crowd at the Barcelona Primavera Sound Festival. Their European tour was subsequently canceled. MATCH UP 4 Backstreet Boys - "Shattered" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI_DVkCysFA The penultimate song from the teen pop sensations-turned-adult contemporary stalwarts' most recent album, This Is Us. VERSUS Diddy & Dirty Money - "Love Come Down" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au7W8tbSFtU His own music has never seemed to be the entrepreneur and fashion designer's top priority. This single's failure to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 perhaps suggests he should try harder. MATCH UP 5 Three Days Grace - "Break" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4VCpTZye10 Blame Canada. The lead single from the Canadian band's third album. Bassist Brad Walst explained the song's theme is "breaking away from bad influences." In case you couldn't tell from the mega-earnest, angsty chorus. VERSUS Thousand Foot Krutch - "Fire It Up" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOJee120Po8 Blame Canada, again. Here's a mouthful: Canadian Christian nü-metal. This is the third single from their fifth album, Welcome to the Masquerade. As featured in the trailer for one of the year's worst films, G.I. Right now in the US, Vampire Weekend and Spoon have both got an album in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. On top of that, Vampire Weekend were at no.1 last week and to their credit it was an independently distributed album and neither of these albums have had any popular singles released from them. Train also has a top 10 single with "Hey, Soul Sister". It seems like through all this bullshit electro-pop that record companies like to pass off as "music", rock music can still dominate, even if it is Indie music. I am not a fan of Vampire Weekend or Spoon, but I'd rather them at no.1 than Ke$ha or Akon. Do you think rock music can become what it was in the 90's again if decent bands can come along? moreResolved Question: how many of you think that justine biber is the next king of pop ?

It was the first of only three albums that have remained in the Top 10 for more than one year (along with Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and Celine Dion's Falling into You). It is the only album to have sold more copies in the United States than any other in two separate years, topping the sales charts in 1983 and 1984, and selling over 29 million copies to date. Worldwide, its sales total has been estimated at 55 million copies by the Guinness Book of World Records, and at 110 million by Jackson's management; either figure would make "Thriller" the top-selling album in the history of music. Five of Jackson's albums, Bad, Dangerous, HIStory, Invincible, and the soundtrack to Michael Jackson's This Is It, debuted at number one in the United States. Jackson was the first artist to chart four Top 10 singles from one album (Off the Wall). Jackson was the first artist to chart seven Top 10 singles from one album (Thriller), a feat matched only by his sister Janet and Bruce Springsteen. Jackson is the only artist to chart five number one hits from one LP, Bad ("Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", and "Dirty Diana"). With "Thriller"'s "Billie Jean", Jackson became the first artist to simultaneously have the number one album and number one single on Billboard's Pop Charts and Black Charts. Following changes in Billboard's methodology, Jackson became the first artist to have a song debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 ("You Are Not Alone").[1] In 2009 Jackson became the first artist in history to have four of the top 20 best selling albums of the year in the United States[2] Jackson has had 13 #1 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart, trailing only The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (18) and Elvis Presley (18 or 17, depending on source). This total does not include "We Are the World", co-written by Jackson and credited to USA for Africa, or the four #1 singles by The Jackson 5. Jackson had 28 top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, one less than The Beatles (29), and trailing Elvis Presley (36) and Madonna (37). I really enjoy a broad range of music, but the critical acclaim that bands earn from music critics are totally bias and every list is a generic reproduction of some rearrangement of songs from the pop billboards. My definitive example of this is Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I always loved this band, and many others but to see it critically acclaimed on "Best of the 90's", "Best of the CENTURY?!" lists is appalling. Yeah it was a catchy tune, I really liked them and it was breakthrough for a genera that changed popular music, and then it essentially became pop music. I can't stand to hear another thing about it, and cannot standby idly to hear it acclaimed so highly forsaking so many others. I've heard some of the crappiest, most talent void, garbage likened to Beethoven by professional music critics! How have we come to degrade classical symphonic masterpieces with the diluted manufactured garbage that people listen to on the radio? My proposal is to elect real musicians, artists such as Joe Satriani, or Steve Vai, bands, such as Dream Theater and Symphony X. The composition of these artists music is unmatched by popular standards and is reasonably likened to symphonic masterpieces such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, and others. If I have to watch another VH1 Music countdown again, I'm going to hunt the producers and jam my favorite metal album up their asses. What do you want to see recognized in mainstream media to allot exposure to the unwashed masses?Yeah, you know I really agree with some of the feedback here, I really like stuff that does get critical acclaim, does it deserve the highest regard....no, BTW major props on the Jimi Hendrix and Children of Bodoom, and many others that have been mentioned.Megadeth, hell yeah, 80's live on! As for Prog Metal lacking emotional expression, I feel that nothing could be further from the truth, as for Dream Theater; Change of Season, Lines in the Sand, and Stream of Conciousness bring me to tears nearly every time! And almost the entire Scenes from a Memory album. Symphony X, not so much so. As for Jimi Hendrix, Along the Watchtowers, makes me weep like a bitch, I don't know why?I guess the other thing I can't figure out, is why there is no Metal category at Yahoo Answers, or at least separate Pop and Rock, or make a separate Pop/rock, and Rock categories. I mean Pop and Rock album as it is contains everything from Britney Spears to Zeppelin, and that's just wrong!Furthermore, I would like to mention the title of this thread was envoked purely to generate hits and interest. I like alot of the stuff you guys are talking about, I even like rap. Like I said I have a BROAD range of musical interest, its the acclaim of specific groups, bands and music that bothers me. I'm afraid Tori Amos, and Converge don't even make that list, which is tragic, because here again we are talking about real musicians who accrue almost no recognition as artists.I've heard alot of griping about my approach but it's been great to get a conversation going. I still contest that Pop and Rock should be in their own separate categories! lol. Along the Watchtowers IS a Bob Dylan song, but without the amazing incredible mind blowing electric Jimi Hendrix solo. I love Bobby too, but you know sometimes somebody does it better than the original. I think this is also the case with Metallica remaking Turn the Page. Thanks for the comments, I hope nobody got their panties in a bunch! hahaFrom Joel: "Just because of 1 song you think every single piece of music is crappy" Yes I think that's directly what I said.......or NOT did you read the rambling I wrote?! moreResolved Question: Black Eyed Peas Grammy Nominations?

I think Beyonce or Lady Gaga should win this one. RECORD OF THE YEAR: If they don't win this for I Got A Feeling then it's bullcrap. It's stayed so long in the billboard charts more than any of the other nominees in this category. If Taylor Swift wins this with You Belong To Me, obviously there is favoritism going on. The only competition for them should be Poker Face. BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM: They may not deserve the Album of the Year awards but they should have a huge chance of winning this one although Pink's Funhouse and Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted are also nominated and they are more pop so it will be close. BEST POP PERFORMANCE BY DUO OR GROUP: Hands down they will win this one. There is no competition here. If they don't win this then Never Say Never will by The Fray. But I Got a Feeling is sttil better. BEST DANCE RECORDING: The other nominees such as Womanizer or Poker Face may be too tough to beat but still hoping they can win this. According to a press release today, the Black Eyed Peas are on the cusp of breaking the all-time record for the longest successive stay at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Thanks to the overlapping runs of “Boom Boom Pow” (12 weeks at no. 1) and “I’ve Gotta Feeling,” (still holding the spot at seven weeks) they’ve already matched Usher’s record of 19 weeks (he did it with “Yeah” and “Burn”), and bypassed the 17-week record Boyz II Men have held since 1994 (it is hard to say goodbye to yesterday, isn’t it, Boyz?). There are, of course, a thousand ways to slice the Billboard pie — most number-one albums, most number-one songs, longest chart runs, cumulative weeks on the Hot 100, etc. — but either way you cut it, the Peas can now claim a big ole piece. Do you think they’ve earned the superlative, Music Mixers? Where do they stand for you amidst contemporary Hot 100 hoggers like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift — and among classic chart busters like (sacrilege? Perhaps! But we have to ask) the Beatles, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah, and Madonna? Will history judge them they same way it does now-defunct multi-platinum acts like the Boyz, the Carpenters and the Bee Gees? what do u think? moreResolved Question: Need help with identifying a song, PLEASE!!!?
It's driving me bananas!! Ok I think it came out recently, if not this month (August 2009) then sometime in the last few months. Ok a female pop artist sings it, I think a black girl, it has awesome guitar parts in it, (the guitar part is like "Dunnnnnnnnn dun dun dun DUN dun DUN dun dunnnnnnnnnn (repeat)" and I know this won't help much but it goes something like "Ohhhhhhhhh I just can't leave you alone....Ohhhhhh (something something, etc.) Basically she's singing about how she can't get him out of her mind, he's got her feeling crazy, she can't leave him alone. It's not really slow and now fast, but has an awesome beat to it. Somebody please help me with this! If you have any suggestions at all, throw em at me! I have been searching lyric sites and music sites, and top billboard sites! Any ideas?Ok first lemme say I am a complete moron, I had no idea that song came out so long ago, LOL! Secondly, THANK YOU RICHIE! I could just kiss you, that's it!! Thanks everyone, I am so relieved and so grateful! moreResolved Question: What song had a music video with a bald guy riding a moped/motorcycle?
Okay, so it's an early 2000's pop song I'm pretty sure. One Hit Wonder to my knowledge. It was a male artist. I think his name may have started with an "L" or "K" but I don't know for sure. The music video for the song was on a lot of top 10 or top 20 shows back when it was popular. It may have been a motorcycle or a moped that he was riding, but there was a girl on the back of it at one point or another. The song was poppy, happy, and about a girl or love in general. The artist, from memory, was bald, white, and wearing a wife beater. Any help would be appreciated. This has been bugging me the whole day and I just can't remember the song, the artist, or anything. I tried doing some Billboard.com browsing to try to find the song but I haven't had any luck. moreResolved Question: Republicans: A mere survey if you will?
This isn't so much a question as it is a survey. If you are a Republican and are non-white, under 35, and listen to contemporary top 50 billboard pop/Rnb/Rap music (not country; also, you must tell me a good song that is out right now as proof) I just want to know that you're out there.Oh, and you must also find the Global Warming Theory to have some legitimacy. Are u out there? No, I seriously don't ONLY want liberals to answer. These aren't necessarily solely liberal traits. You mean to say that no Republicans enjoy contemporary music outside of country music? moreResolved Question: need some popular modern music from 2009?
i'm looking to update my ipod with a bunch of the newer popular music such as soulja boy tellem, sean kingston, black eyed peas, anything that's good to dance to. i've already gone to the billboards top 100 site, and found some good stuff from that but i'm still looking for more because i've heard most of that stuff on there anyways. i'm looking mostly for music in the rap/hip-hop/pop genres. and maybe some techno might be okay too if you know any. i don't really want any country or rock/metal/screamo cuz i've got plenty of that. also any suggestions for some of akon's best songs? i seen him in concert today with a bunch of other acts, with like 4 different DJ there, and they were playing really cool music but i didn't really know what any of it was. any ideas what kind of things i dj would play for songs at a big event? moreResolved Question: Do you think that Britney Spears will get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame one day?
I think she will because she has had a lot of success in only 10 years. Heres some of her success: 1.Sold over 85 million records worldwide 2.Has 5 Platinium records 3.She is the only female artist to have 5 albums debut at #1 4.She has sold out world tours 5.She changed the face of pop when she stepped into the scene back in 1999 6.She has had over 20 hits make it into the Billboard top 10 charts 7.Has released tons of hits and music videos 8.Is a really good dancer and entertainer 9.Sells out shows everwhere 10.Is the 33rd top selling artist 11.Is the 7th top selling female artist 12.always stays in the spot light and people continue to listen to her What do you think? moreResolved Question: Have you ever composed a song you had never heard before in your dream?
I was catching tv and felt asleep on the couch just minutes ago! I had a dream and in my dream, I was composing a song with this guy who is my best friend in the dream. It was a really great song and I had no doubt if it's sang by a popular pop artiste, it will make it into the billboard charts! The theme of the song is: "I passed by a girl on the street as I was walking. We looked familiar to each other but somehow we had never met before!" The main line of the chorus is: "I told you we have never met before!" I love music but I'm not a musician or anything and I can't really sing or play any music! I also did not have any instruments like a mic or guitar which I can used to record the tone of that song! I feel that it is a waste if I allow the song to fade away in my memory! Can anyone suggest how I can deal with it? moreWelcome to Billboard Pop Music News
