I pose a question to you believers. You criticise many atheists for rejecting Jesus Christ and not caring about sins and faith and blah blah blah, blowing sunshine up your own ass in the name of something unproven. But, which causes more problems, science or religion? Science is merely our quest as part of humanity to learn more about our world and ourselves. It helps us discover more about our past, and how to prepare for the future. We've found ourselves on this world, so we're trying to work out how to run it. A bit like "learning on the job" I guess, on a much larger scale. It may eat up a bit of money in some cases, but in the long run we don't do much harm to humanity. However, in the name of religion and God: The crusades, jihads, 9/11. Countless more examples. What started as a faith, a simple way to live your life has turned into something that churns out more problems than it solves. It has become a get out of jail free card for anyone who causes grievances. Religion causes conflict among the ranks, dividing people. You say, "leave us alone, we can believe what we want", yet you force those beliefs on others and criticise those that don't follow your ways. So which is worse? The quest for knowledge or belief in a myth?Great scientists invented nuclear weapons, true. But everything in this world can be used for good or evil - a table, for example. I could set my coffee on it, or I could beat a stranger over the head with it. But a table doesn't divide people in the way religion does.Beehive: You may keep your beliefs personal, and that's fine. But some religious people advertise it, force it on people and heavily critcise and reject those that don't believe in something. It divides people, causing conflict. This can escalate into wars. hey'all how are we? im ok.. So, i just went up to go to bed, at about 8.40pm, and i felt a little sick. then i started dancing in my room then like my mouth felt weird.. then i burped.. it tastes a little like vomit.. only a bit.. so i stopped dancing and went on my laptop.. then i burped again.. it was normal.. then more dancing, burped a bit again, it was like vomit. a little bit of vomit came up! YUCK! omg, im soo paranoid though! last night i burped and vomit came up i vomited in the middle of the night.. 8 years ago.. HAHA i have burped vomit up before, and stuff, and not vomited, it was only that once. so paranoid :( but oh my goodness though, i was just reading on Y!A someone was burping all day, and it tasted like vomit, then they said they threw up later that night.... i havent been burping all day, just then, it was rank! i dont really feel sick right now. will i be OK! argh more

Open Question: Should Jackie Evancho compete and win as an amateur on America's Got Talent when she already has a CD?

When Jacob Evancho's audition video to America's Got Talent ('AGT') in 2009 did not get him on the show, the Evancho family submitted a tape for Jackie Evancho. A separate company screens and submits the entries to 'AGT', however I wonder if the YouTube acts were selected mid-season? If so, they're fortunate since they have unseen material and are more "rested". Jackie quickly won her rounds and became the highest ranked of the YouTube acts. She is definitely talented, young and naturally appealing - the qualities that any TV show would want (ratings bonanza!). Returning to point - my question is, should Jackie compete and win as an amateur on 'AGT' for a 1 million dollar prize and a Vegas show when she will, more than likely, make that on her own with either operatic success (preferred - she could become the next great opera star, alongside Renee Fleming or a coloratura such as Dame Joan Sutherland) or pop success (Divas Streisand, Andrews, or Dion)? On Jackie's Evancho's YouTube site, the following statement is given: "Jackie won a regional semifinalist spot in a talent search contest of David Foster's. She performed on stage with him October 24 at Prudential Center in Newark NJ. I am a 16 year old senior living in Southern California. I've been on a lot of web sites looking for what kind of school/ what schools I could be accepted to, but I haven't had very much precise/ clear answers. Here's some of my info: Cumulative GPA: 3.3 Class Rank: Top 20% SAT Scores: Reading: 600, Writing: 620, Math: 420, Combined: 1720 No SAT Subject Tests yet Not too much extra curricular, just some clubs 2 AP classes last year, both passed. 5 this year [I'm going for a big finish lol] Took honors classes throughout high school Didn't do too good Freshman year, but pretty good after that. Open Question: How do I use the OPRK value to pick my fantasy football players for the week?

I'm playing fantasy football for the first time. Ever. I've also never watched a football game in my life. And I'm a girl. AND I somehow managed to pick 3 kickers during the draft. (That was an accident, but, still.) I'm just trying to set the stage here, so you know what you're working with. Okay, so I'd like to review my players right now to prepare for the first set of games. I know I'm supposed to use the OPRK value to help my decide which players to put in. But I'm not sure I understand it. Do I want low numbers? If I have a QB ranked 10th in green, and another ranked 2nd in green, I'd pick the 2nd, right? What about red? If I have a QB ranked 10th in red, and another ranked 2nd in red, I'd still pick the 2nd? What if I have a QB ranked 10th in green, but 2nd in red...do I pick the guy in green, even if his number is lower? Okay, please keep your answer fairly simple. I've done research on just about ever breed. I know everything. (Parts of a horse!) I know how to Mount and ride walk, trot etc. Never fell off (Knock on wood) I know all the grooming supplies, how to feed a horse, clean stalls, hard work around the barn. Be around the horses and several at a time. Brush them! I've been to clinics at my local barn. I've been to shows but since I don't own a horse right now I couldn't ride. I know diseases and illnesses. I know what plants a horse can't eat. I know what kind of wood chips a horse shouldn't have in her/his stall. I know what mare, stallion, gelding, etc is. Umm I don't think that's it just a tad tired at the moment probably will update more too. P.S. I know I'm not an expert.WEll, not know everything but you know what i mean. I hope. I'm currently a senior and I was wondering if I could raise my 2.95 GPA.If I made all A's would it raise my GPA and my class rank?And I was also wondering if I did make all A's by the end of the first semester what would my GPA be?(I'm taking 6 classes).I'm not sure how bad or good my GPA is,but I know it's not the best! Open Question: Someone help me get out of depression?

I've been feeling depressed a while and I don't know what to do. It started when I was 15, I am 18 now. When it started, I thought ok, maybe i will feel better when I come back to America, as I had been living in Korea for a year. Then I became overwhelmed by high school and thought I would feel better when its summer and I have time to recollect my thoughts and rejuvenate myself. I've been going around in circles like this for a while now. The entire time I was in high school, I didn't feel like I fit in. Growing up, I moved alot, changing schools almost every year, so I never developed proper social skills. Many people hated from the beginning because of my weight, my funny voice, or because of my man breasts. Those who didn't hate me right away soon hated me because, being socially awkward, I often inadvertently say the wrong things. I have no social life, having very few friends. I've never had a girlfriend or even been invited to a party in four years. I'm not smart, the only subject I am good at being math. I am the butt of everyone's jokes, I have a sister two years older than me whose shadow I've always lived in. She graduated from the number one ranked high school in the world and is now attending Harvard. My dad is a CEO of his own company he raised from a small office to a very successful business with offices in 3 continents and 6 countries and who is always critical of everything I do. I have a mom, who used to be a very well respected math professor in Korea who is just as critical. I am overwhelmed by my schoolwork, being a senior in high school and having to do college apps, SAT, tutors, and more on top of my classes. Wherever I go, bad luck follows me around. always screw up in everything I do and have absolutely no skills. I am sick of being depressed. Because I feel depressed, I have no energy and doing worse and worse in everything else. I can sometimes barely get up in the morning. I've considered suicide a few times, but the only thing that stopped me was my fear of death. The only one that knows about my depression is my closest friend. Talking to her is one of the only things keeping me going. I am sick of always feeling depressed and ready to get my life back on track. Someone please help me more

Open Question: what was the yellow fragment under my gum?

my wisdom teeth are grown out and one of the lower ones is covered partially bby my gum. usually it's fine but every now and then it gets swollen and painful. Recently I was fighting off a sore throat and my gum started to hurt to the point where it was hard to chew. I bought a dental scaling kit at the store and probed under my gum. I was able to excavate a small yellowish piece of debris that resembled a small sliver of garlic or piece of corn. It was hard and had the consistency of a piece of popcorn kernel shell. It smelled really bad too. It was absolutely rank. After I removed it, the pain in my gums was greatly alleviated. So anyway, I was wondering what exactly this thing was? Was it plaque? Or was it a piece of food that had gotten stuck and rotted in my gum? Was it hardened pus that had built up after an infection? could it be related to my sore throat? Resolved Question: Would Russia rival the US in terms of troop numbers?

US: Active personnel:1,477,896 (ranked 2nd in the world behind China) Reserve personnel :1,458,500 Russia: Active personnel: 1,027,000 Reserve personnel: 2,400,000 (not sure if this number is true, got it from Wikipedia. Looks fake.) I'm surprised Russia still managed to keep up a large number of troops after the dissolution of the USSR. Is Russia still a formidable foe? What if China joins along with Russia?I'm quite sure the US outperforms Russia in conventional warfare. China is an exception however. All 3 countries have nukes. I think the US has a larger strategic atmosphere though. For example, Taiwan, Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea near China as well as NATO (and Europe) to the west of Russia.The Russians use the Ak-74 series now.Mike, I agree. I think US strategy gives America the edge. Two oceans on both sides. And as previously stated before, many pro-US countries are near Russia and China. I think most of Asia dislikes Chinese influence. Invasion of America would be impossible. I am just fearful if one day, the fight would go to China and Russia, to their front. Open Question: Can I get into an Ivy League school?

I'm a high school junior, and am very interested in attending an Ivy League institution. During high school I received regular classes my freshman year (I earned straight A's), though my sophomore year I was bumped up with all honors and AP courses. I have only received two B's in high school, and one was in a high school course offered in 8th grade. I received a 3 on my first AP exam as well in World History. However, I'm now taking 4 AP's as a junior and know that with effort I will receive a 5 in U.S. History, Psychology, and Spanish. Oh, and at least a 4 in AP English. I plan on taking four more AP's my senior year too, and will strive to get at least a 4 or 5 in all of them. I will also take the English Language, U.S. History, and Spanish SAT subject tests in the spring as well as the SAT's and ACT's in March. My GPA from sophomore year was an weighted 4.2 (will rise to at least a 4.5 this year), and an unweighted GPA of 3.8. Additionally, I'm in the top 10% of my class. Academically, do I rank well enough? In the community I've accumulated 150 hours over the past two years, and am the president of the drama club at my school. I've earned superior awards within the state in the club, too. I am also the vice president for the Gay/Straight Alliance, and have been doing an incredible amount of activism lately. Besides those two, I'm a member of the glee club, National Honor Society, International Thespian Society, and academic team. Overall, should I strive to make it into the Ivy League? Preferably, I'd like to attend either Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, or Brown. If not those schools, what tier 1 schools should I be looking at? Any help or advice would be much appreciated! :) more
