Resolved Question: What do you think Open border activist I cant remember name in court but can remember name at rallies?

On May 20, 2010, Nativo Lopez, President of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA), former MEChA organizer, ousted Santa Ana School Board official, and open-borders advocate made one more in a series of appearances in Los Angeles Superior Court relative to felony charges by the Los Angeles District Attorney of voter fraud and other serious allegations related to registering and voting in Los Angeles while residing in Orange County. Conviction could result in up to three years in prison. His preliminary hearing, now set for July 12, was postponed by Lopez’s repeated refusal to identify himself to the court at each appearance and the decision by Commissioner Kristi Lousteau in March to assign him for mental-competency determination before continuing with criminal proceedings. (http://orangejuicelbog.c/2010/05/nativo-lopez-update/) Nativo did not have any problem identifying himself on May 18 as a leader of the protest at Staples Center against Lakers coach Phil Jackson’s comment that Arizona’s new immigration law is irrelevant to basketball. He was also named as an organizer of the huge May 1, 2010, Los Angeles Immigration March, mirroring a similar event in 2006 when he and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stood shoulder to shoulder in televised news interviews. On its website, the Boston Branch of the International Socialism Organization just announced that Nativo Lopez will speak at its upcoming 2010 conference in Chicago in June and Oakland on July 1, which should allow him time to return for his next appearance in Superior Court and, hopefully, remember his name. (www.bostonsocialism.com) On her current re-election campaign site, Green Party Mayor Gayle McLaughlin of Richmond, CA, www.greenpartywatch.org/tag/nativo-lopez/ shows a photo of Nativo Lopez at her kickoff, speaking not only as the National President of MAPA, but also as National Director of Hermandad Mexicana Latinoamericana, “…a community service and advocacy organization for Mexican and Latin American immigrants throughout the United States.” But the CA Secretary of State’s site indicates both Lopez’s Los Angeles-based MAPA Mexican American Political Association National and the Santa Ana Hermandad Mexicana Nacional corporations are suspended.http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/cbs.aspx This begs the question whether East-LA-born Larry Lopez (aka Nativo Vigil Lopez), really speaks for Mexican Americans in general, and, more specifically, whether he represents the views of MAPA, a historic, respected Latino political organization that advanced such notable Mexican Americans as former Los Angeles Councilman and later Congressman Edward R. Roybal, into important political and leadership positions. A recent Los Angeles Daily News story, “MAPA’s success leads to its decline,” quotes Jose Sandvoal, president of Young Latino Democrats of San Fernando Valley, describing MAPA as…such an old school Chicano organization…which isn’t very relevant to my generation today.” (Daily News, April 19, 2010) http://www.opposingviews.com/i/nativo-lopez-does-he-speak-for-mapa-and-mexican-americans more

Resolved Question: What do you think of this father, what he did is legal under Rusian law?

Father kidnaps girl, 7, feds say Written by carlos Monday, 02 March 2009 21:26 Former Sinai-Grace physician charged with abducting daughter to his native Russia. Paul Egan / The Detroit News WEST BLOOMFIELD -- Federal authorities brought international kidnapping charges Tuesday against a former West Bloomfield physician, alleging he snatched his 7-year-old daughter from his ex-wife the day after Christmas and flew her to his native Russia. Dr. Victor Nathan Adlai, 42, contacted Sinai-Grace Hospital from Moscow on Jan. 9 to say he was quitting his job as an anesthesiologist, according to records filed in federal court in Detroit. Adlai had been due to return from a scheduled vacation on Jan. 5. Russia is not a signatory to an international civil agreement on child abductions signed by the United States at The Hague in 1988. The United States also has no applicable extradition treaty with Russia, but the charges were filed so Adlai can be arrested if he returns to the country, said Gina Balaya, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit. International parental abduction is a three-year felony. One State Department estimate said about 1,000 children are abducted from the country by one of their parents each year. Eugenia Adlai, the mother of Amanda Adlai, "has not seen her daughter since Victor Nathan Adlai picked her up," according to an FBI affidavit attached to the complaint. Her daughter phoned her from Moscow on Dec. 29 to say she was with her father and the father has also e-mailed several times, the affidavit says. "Adlai has not provided any information or indication that he has purchased airfare to return Amanda Alexandra Adlai to the United States," the affidavit said. The Adlais were divorced last year after 15 years of marriage and the Oakland County Circuit Court awarded the parents joint custody. A spokeswoman for Sinai-Grace Hospital declined comment. Resolved Question: SEIU Hilda Delgado wants ICE officials fired for enforcing America immigration laws & when do?

SEIU Hilda Delgado wants ICE officials fired for enforcing America immigration laws & when do fine time to repersent their workers when they want illegals to be free from complying with any laws in America ? How soon before bank robbery for illegals becomes legal ? Last week, Service Employee International Union members and immigrant rights advocates gathered in front of federal immigration offices in Oakland and took out their cell phones. In unison, they dialed the Department of Homeland Security public mailbox line to lodge complaints about Immigration and Customs Enforcement's enforcement activities. SEIU Spokeswoman Hilda Delgado said the point of the protests-which were held in a handful of U.S. cities last week, including San Jose-was to call for comprehensive immigration reform. The SEIU has been a leading critic of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's worksite enforcement tactics, including I-9 audits, which the union says have resulted in worker firings. Resolved Question: MLB relocation/expansion cities?

Baseball season has essentially started up again, and at this time of year, you wonder how much longer some teams will be in their respective cities, and where they might go. There are currently 2 teams who have shaky stadium deals: the A's and the Rays. While Oakland is currently in talks with San Jose, Tampa is looking at all alternatives. If deals don't work out with those 2 teams, they will likely relocate. Here (in my opinion) are the leading cities for MLB relocation: Portland: Pro - It is the largest 1 sport metro area in the country, and Portlanders are ready for an additional sport. They made a very strong push to try to get the Expos. There is enough wealth and population around the area, and Nike, Intel and Wells Fargo would bring in some strong corporate support. The natural rivalry that would be created with the Mariners would be something that Portlanders embrace. The abundance of public transit options available in the Portland area would eliminate any sort of access problems. Cons: Yes, it is true there major problems getting a stadium done, as well as attendance issues, for their current AAA baseball team. But Portland would step up to the plate (ok, kind of a bad pun) to get a stadium done for an MLB team. However, it would be very hard to get one built with public funds. Charlotte: A growing community which has shown that sports can be successful there. Cons: Also shown sports can fail there. The Bobcats are having attendance issues, despite a new arena. And Charlotte is also a small market. An MLB team could dilute the money going towards the Panthers and the Bobcats Las Vegas: Pros: A city that is starting to show that it is hungry for professional sports. It is also the largest metro area in the country without ANY pro teams. Cons: Much of the population base in Vegas does not have much money. There is also the gambling culturePulsue there is an entertainment issue: When you think Vegas, do you think "Let's go to a baseball game?" Many MLB teams get tourists at their games. Vegas could have a problem with that. Austin or San Antonio: Pro: Austin is getting hungry for a share of pro sports, while San Antonio is wanting another pro sport in its town. Cons: Austin is still fairly small, and San Antonio might spend the energy trying to lure an NFL team away from relocating to L.A. rather than try to attract baseball. Mexico City: Pros: Obviously, having an MLB team in the Latin world, as well as the world's largest city, could start the move to make the MLB an international league. Cons: The people in Mexico City don't have money. Any other thoughts? more

Resolved Question: Obama socialist or communist?

•William Ayers—Now a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ayers spent 10 years as a fugitive in the 1970s when he was part of the domestic terrorist organization known as the Weather Underground. In the early 1970s the Weather Underground was responsible for bombing the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C., and setting a bomb that didn’t go off at a military induction center in Oakland, Calif. The group also murdered two policemen and a Brink’s truck driver in a botched armored car robbery, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) website. Ayers surrendered to face charges in the 1980s, but the charges were dropped because of improper surveillance. Coincidentally, on Sept. 11, 2001, Ayers was being interviewed about a book he had written and he told the interviewer he didn’t think the Weather Underground had done enough. Ayers and Obama first crossed paths in Chicago in the 1990s and served together on the board of the not-for-profit Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a boondoggle to spend tens of millions of dollars for their pet “education” projects. Obama downplayed his friendship with Ayers as casual, but evidence indicates their relationship was much more. Many now believe that Ayers penned Obama’s “autobiography” Dreams from My Father. •Carol Browner—Obama’s Director of the White House Office of Energy and Climate Change Policy, Browner is an avowed socialist. She served as one of 14 leaders of Socialist International’s Commission for a Sustainable World Society, which calls for global governance and says rich countries must shrink their economies to address climate change, according to an article in The Washington Times. The group supports socialism and has been harshly critical of U.S. policies. She is also a supporter of smart growth policies, as we have described previously. Browner also served on the board of Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection, though her name was scrubbed from the site after Obama tapped her for the director’s position. Not surprisingly, Obama’s transition team told The Times Browner’s membership in a socialist organization was not a problem. •Frank Marshall Davis—You won’t find Davis’ name on an organizational chart of White House staff, but he was instrumental in forming the political philosophy of Barack Hussein Obama. Called “Uncle Frank” in Dreams from My Father, Davis was a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA), according to a 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii. Obama has admitted to spending time with Uncle Frank—who he cryptically describes as being a person of some modest notoriety at one time—and listening to his poetry and getting career path advice. Davis may also have been a pedophile. Writing under the pseudonym Bob Greene, Davis wrote a debased pornographic novel entitled, Sex Rebel: Black (Memiors of a Gash Gourmet), in which he describes group sex encounters and sex he and his wife had with a 13-year-old girl named Anne. Davis died in 1987. •Anita Dunn—As White House Communications advisor, Dunn has been seen a lot lately as the face of the Obama administration’s strategy to try and discredit Fox News. She is described on Politico.com as a veteran Democratic strategist and top advisor on Obama’s presidential campaign. As the war between the Obama White House (see more under Rham Emmanual) and Fox has escalated, videotape has surfaced showing Dunn gloating over how the campaign “controlled” the media. Another videotape surfaced showing Dunn speaking at a June high school graduation ceremony where she praised Marxist/Communist Chinese Premiere Mao Zedong as one of her favorite philosophers and one of the two people she turns to most. It’s difficult to understand how Mao had time to philosophize as he was busy killing somewhere between 50 million and 70 million of his country’s citizens during his 27-year reign of terror. •Ezekiel Emanuel—The president’s Special Advisor for Health Policy, Ezekiel is brother to White House Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel. Ezekiel is the source of Sarah Palin’s death panel idea. This Emanuel has written that he believes many healthcare treatments should be denied to those under 15 and over 65 to save money, the rationale being that only people between 15 and 65 are beneficial to society. •Rahm Emanuel—Obama’s White House Chief of Staff, Emanuel is a thug Chicago politician who once sent a two-and-a-half foot long, dead and decomposing fish to lobbyist Allen Secrest to express his displeasure. He’s known for his full-time use of gutter language and once told then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair just before an appearance with Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal: “This is important. Don’t f**k it up.” He also coined the phrase, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” He’s also behind the ridiculous policy of starting a fight with television news agency Fox News. •Chai Feldblum—Nom more

Resolved Question: Can I transport food on an airplane?

I will be taking an international flight from Oakland Airport, CA (OAK) to Toluca, Mexico (TOL). The friend I'm visiting is a huge fan of Panda Express and I would like to bring her a plate of their food. Is there any way I could transport the food? Whether it be in ziplocks in my lugguge or in the box in my carry on. Also, I will be flying Volaris if that is relevant. Please no harping on Panda Express, each is entitled to their own opinion, but this is not the place to discuss it. Thank you more

Resolved Question: Didn't candidate Obama promise "Special Interest Groups would have NO influence in HIS Administration?

So WTH do you call this? (be sure to read to end) By MATTHEW KAMINSKI Oakland, Calif. Flexing his influence, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Andy Stern turned up at the White House 22 times in the first six months of the Obama administration, more than anyone else on the visitor logs released last month. But the good vibes in Washington contrast with the troubles inside the house of labor itself. Unions are competing for shrinking turf and members, and the most ferocious intramural battle today involves Mr. Stern's union here in California. For the past 10 months, the SEIU has fought to hold on to 150,000 members in its Union of Healthcare Workers affiliate, or UHW. The challenge comes from a group of former UHW leaders and Stern confidantes. Pushed out by Mr. Stern after a prolonged power struggle, they started a rival outfit, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, or NUHW, in January and immediately moved to build it up by wooing away members from the SEIU's local, UHW. Now these upstarts charge that the UHW threatened workers with deportation and tampered with secret ballots to narrowly win a pivotal election last summer in Fresno, Calif. The NUHW allegations, contained in a complaint filed last Friday and previously not made public, take the battle to a new level. The June vote was in a "decertification" election—in which some 10,000 home-care workers were asked to choose between the UHW that already represented them or the NUHW. Old labor hands say they've never seen a decertification vote like this. The SEIU shipped in 950 or so staff and spent an estimated $10 million on mailings, advertising, phone banks, door-to-door canvassing and the like. The NUHW doesn't have this kind of firepower. At a rally for staff in late May, David Regan, an SEIU executive vice president who took over the UHW in January, roared that, "We gotta give a butt-whipping they will never forget." When the secret ballots were mailed in and counted, the SEIU won that vote by a sliver, 2,938 to 2,705. The NUHW immediately called for a re-run of the election, challenging voting irregularities. The two unions have traded accusations since. But now, Carlos Martinez, an immigrant from El Salvador who was on the SEIU's staff during the campaign, has come forward—so he says—to blow the whistle on his employer. Mr. Martinez went door-to-door canvassing the home-care workers during the 15-day election. Like him, many of them are native Spanish speakers; some are illiterate. Speaking in an interview over a sandwich at a hotel in the Bay Area late last month, Mr. Martinez says he was instructed by superiors to tell the workers that if they voted against the SEIU, they could lose their medical benefits, see their green cards or citizenship revoked and possibly be deported. He says he and other staffers were also told to pressure voters to spoil ballots that had been filled out for the NUHW. In other instances he filled ballots out for them. He says he even took some to the post office, as did other SEIU campaign workers! http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203946904574300411938459486.html?mod=rss_Today's_Most_Popular more

Resolved Question: Does the growth of Messianic Islam bother some poeple...?

You know the Christian evangelicals who pose as 'messianic jews'...? Now they're trying the same with with Islam: Radical Missionary Approach Produces 'Messianic Muslims' SOURCE: http://www.hvk.org/articles/0204/104.html “Thus, for instance, ****Churches**** might be called ****“messianic mosques”***** - and may be designed to look like Muslim places of worship, with worshippers being required to remove their footwear before entering. “Worship services might be designed on the lines of Sufi zikr and sama sessions, with regular Christian Sufi orders in place. Certain Muslim festivals may be celebrated by Christians after being ****suitably adapted.*** “By thus presenting themselves as little different from Muslims in external appearance, Christian missionaries will find it easier to win Muslim friends, and, hopefully, ***converts***.” SOURCE: http://www.hvk.org/articles/0204/104.html “Become like the Muslims to reach the Muslims. Be all things to all men, George suggests to potential Christian missionaries. "Christian missionaries, too, might adopt taqiya, concealing their faith when occasion demands, focussing more on what unites them with the Muslims rather than on what divides them, while at the same time trying to spread Christianity among the Muslims through subtle means. A March 24, 2000, Charisma News Service report said some missionaries are now making converts but are allowing them to "hold on to many of their traditional religious beliefs and practices" so as to refrain from offending others within their culture." The Charisma article in which Watchman's Trumpet reports elaborates: "Messianic Muslims" who continue to read the Koran, visit the mosque and say their daily prayers but accept Christ as their Savior, are the products of the strategy, which is being tried in several countries, according to Youth With a Mission (YWAM), one of the organizations involved. The so-called “C5 missionaries” whom Phil had met advocate that it is okay to affirm Muhammad as a genuine prophet of God; that Muslim background believers should attend the mosque perpetually; and that **********Christians should consider legally converting to Islam to win Muslims as Muslims.*********** More here: http://www.strategicnetwork.org/index.php?loc=kb&view=v&id=8769 more

Resolved Question: Delta Airline Damaged my Luggage & has not delivered it ? HELP?

I just flew home from an international flight and apon picking up my luggage in New York for customs inspections I noticed my brand new bag was ripped (the handles were torn down aprox 6 inches . In addition, this bag was marked as "handle with care, fragile" . It certainly was not handled with care. Since I was rushed to catch a flight (due to delta's delay.) I had to run across the airport to catch my connecting flight home after customs inspection I was told by Delta Airlines to file a claim when I got to Oakland CA airport. I attempted to do so , but my luggage never made it on my airplain. The lady at the counter said 1. She could not open a claim unless she saw the bag . 2. Delta does not cover handles (although it was ripped - not at the seam.) 3. She said and I quote " The bag was not leather and you should not expect items that are not leather to make it! " . She was incredibly rude and told me that once my bags are delivered (as they were not on the flight) I would need to drive them back to the airport for inspection. Meanwhile I have not even recieved my bags . I have my husbands meds in the suitcase, and my work clothes . How can Delta Justify not compensating me in any way ? I have to jump through hoops to 1. Get my doc to prescribe meds 2. I now have to pay for the bag to be repaired due to no fault of my own . 3. I do not have my work clothes and I will need to figure something out . What can I do ? Do I have any rights ? Please help. more

Anyone as puzzled as I was about all the media hype on our new Administration, or notice the media does not ask our new Administration any challenging questions? There's been a great deal of censorship in the news, and on the Internet, it forums and newspapers in the past few months, and we are losing our freedom of speech quickly. Is this why all the deaths at Disneyland and Disney World don't get reported? Walt Disney Productions is one of Obama's largest money contributors - the donations below do not include the contributions by the companies owned by Disney. And take a look below to see what media Disney owns: http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/search.php?cid=N00009638&name=%28all%29&employ=Walt+Disney&state=%28all%29&zip=%28any+zip%29&submit=OK&amt=a&sort=A Walt Disney Productions owns the media companies below. Any wonder you cannot believe anything you read anymore? Think twice before buying anything "Disney" - because that's who's running this Country now. And we wonder why the theme park continues to flourish with so many children's deaths that don't even shut down a ride for a day? - the majority not being reported. And this is who is now stifling our ability to speak out as well. Resolved Question: Would you vote for me? here is what I believe in!!! Please Read Vote Mr. Jones?

Economy-Taxes should be based on a percentage of what you make, that way it is fair. State sales taxes should not be over 5%. Corporations should not be controlled by the government, but if they pose some kind of danger to the country they should be regulated. Environment-The government should support Electric cars by offering tax credits to companies that sell them. Also people who buy them should be recieve a tax credit. Solar power should replace the use of oil. Domestic production should continue middle eastern oil should not be used by the U.S. Wind power should be used in off shore wind farms. Immigration-English should become the national lanuage. Documents including drivers test should all be in english. Illegal immigrants should be prosecuted, they broke the law, and they should be deported. The U.S. should support legal immigration, but due to over population the number of new citizens should be resticted. Companies that employ illegals should be fined and or put out of bussiness. A wall should be constructed along the U.S. mexican border. The U.S. should support workers visa cards for people who want to work here. The U.S. should guide Mexico to help them improve their country, but should not do so with tax payer's money. Abortion-should be allowed, look at it this way. Do you want to pay with your taxes for someone's kid to go through hell living in child care without parents? and what if a girl was raped? This is not an easy answer, and I don't support the idea of it, but in reality I think it should be allowed, I support abortion. I also support stem cell research. Gay Marriage-I do not support, but if the majority of a state's population wants to allow it, then it should be allowed. Death Penalty-I support, but the evidence has to be there. Your taxes should not go to keeping murdurers and rapists alive. Crime-More Police and harsher laws. I do not believe in legalizing drugs. Medicinal use should be allowed though. Kids should be educated better in school through programs like d.a.r.e. More colleges should be built in high crime areas like L.A. Oakland, Detriot, to offer people a chance to escape from poverty. Welfare-I do not believe a large portion of taxes should go to welfare, people need to help themselves. I do believe in food stamps and out of work aid, but not welfare cadallics. Education-needs national standards and all schools need to have the same criteria in order to graduate high schools and colleges. If a student obtains a GPA above 3.5 their cost to attend any college of their choice (accepted to) should be waved. College should not be out of reach, anyone should be able to attend schools like harvard if they worked hard, despite what their parents make. Military-Afganistan should be kept under control due to the terror treat. Osama Bin Laden should be captured and prosecuted for his crimes. Diplomacy should always be used before military engagement. The United Nations should should step in on certain issues like the genocide in Darfur. Dipolmacy should be used towards North Korea, but if they go against international law they should be sanctioned. Gantonomo should not be shut down. They should recieve trials in court though. Social Security-should not be spent by the government it isn't their money to spend. Health Care-should be similar to Canada The Second Amendment-automatic weapons should be illegal, background checks should be required, Certain guns should not be owned. Should be regulated, but responsible people should be allowed to own a gun. Afirmative Action-should be abolished, there should be a colorblindness towards everyone. People should be defined by their accomplishments not by their race. I HAVE JUST PRESENTED SOME ISSUSE AND MY STANCE ON THEM. IF I RAN AS AN INDEPENDENT WOULD YOU VOTE FOR ME. YES OR NO AND WHY. THANK YOU more

Resolved Question: Is San Leandro Blvd relatively safe?

I've always been told to avoid West Oakland and East Oakland whenever possible because those are very dangerous neighborhoods. However, recently, I find that I might be able to save some money if I bike some of errands instead of using BART. Though, the route tends to go thru those areas. I'm located in Berkeley, and I've never biked further southeast than Jack London Square. If I keep on going east on 12th and then merge on San Leandro, along the BART tracks, will I be OK? Is the route much safer than International Blvd? I plan to go all the way down near the Oakland Colliseum station. more

Resolved Question: International auto transportation?

Hello, I am trying to find a reputable transportation company to ship a vehicle overseas to Chile or Peru. I live in Northern California, so the Oakland or San Francisco ports would be ideal for me. Can anyone help me get my feet firmly on the ground regarding the necessary steps to ship this auto? I do know that I need to go in person to the transport ports and speak directly with them. Can anyone suggest a company they have dealt with around northern California? Thank you for all your help.Sorry, I forgot to include that I wish to ship the vehicle by boat. more

Resolved Question: I need help re wording this?!?

I need to re word this into different words. Thanks everyone for looking at my question : ) The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was a labor union in the United States organized by the predominantly African-American Pullmans Porters. Organized in 1925, it struggled for twelve years before winning its first collective bargaining agreement with the Pullman Company. It was, in 1935 the first labor organization led by African-Americans to receive a charter in the American Federation of Labor. It merged in 1978 with the Brotherhood of Railway and Airline Clerks (BRAC), now known as the Transportation Communications International Union. The leaders of the BSCP—including A. Philip Randolph, its first president, and C. L. Dellums, its vice president and the uncle of former U.S. Representative and current Mayor of the City of Oakland, California Ron Dellums—became leaders in the civil rights movement and continued to play a significant role in it after it focused on the eradication of segregation in the South. BSCP members such as E. D. Nixon were among the leadership of local civil rights movements by virtue of their organizing experience, constant movement between communities and freedom from economic dependence on local authorities. more

Resolved Question: why i don't have a girl friend?

I have seen my friends going out with their girl friend and they teasing me a lot. I have always thinking why i don't have one. my co-workers, sometimes, asking me " Hey, Kyle where is your girl friend". I responded, sigh "I don't have one. I don't know why". Resolved Question: International travel with an infant?

I just had my son 2 months ago. I live in Okinawa Japan & I want to fly back to California to visit my family so they can meet my son. I will be flying with Just me & Jack (my 2 mo. old son) I'm a little nervous about traveling with him. I will be taking 2 flights. One from Okinawa to Seattle & one from Seattle to Oakland. The flight from Okinawa to Seattle is 10+ hours if I remember correctly. He is bottle fed with formula. I'm wondering if I will be able to take hid formula on the plane. I wondering about his car seat& stroller - can I check them? Are they counted as extra baggage? Where do I change him? the airplane bathrooms are so tiny. If anyone has any tips, suggestions, or helpful information I would really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks Oh - and I plan on checking with the airline about their policies & procedures on exact answers I was just looking for an answer from someone's personal experiences more

Resolved Question: Chances of getting into UCLA?

Hello everyone, I'm new here and just found this handy part of the forum. I'm looking to get into UCLA (for computer science) or Purdue (for professional flight). My career goal is to become a professional pilot. I'm a junior right now, so be aware that I'll probably be doing more things by next year. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm a white male from California. Here are my grades (as far as I remember) ------------------------------------------------ Freshman year: Semester 1: 3.9, Semester 2: 3.95 Sophomore year: Semester 2: 4.04, Semester 2: 4.04 Junior year: Semester 1: 4.42, Semester 2: Just started, will probably be similar At my school (which is a private catholic school in Oakland, California, by the way), you only get extra GPA points for junior/senior level Honors/AP courses. However, I can tell you that Freshman and Sophomore year I received all A-'s and A's, and Junior year (this semester only), I had one B+, with the rest being A-'s and A's. Out of seven possible core classes, I am taking 5 Honors/AP courses this year. My school does not do ranking. Standardized Testing ----------------------- I haven't really seriously taken an SAT or ACT yet (that's in a few months). I did take the SAT in 8th grade and the PSAT in 10th grade (also irrelevant). My main concern, however, is my PSAT scores, which I got back today. I only got a 190, which was a bit disappointing to me. My mom said that the ACT might be better for me, is this true? (I was 93rd percentile in the nation). In my opinion anything below a 200 isn't too hot. Hopefully I will improve when it comes time for the real tests. Extra-Curricular/Volunteering/Sports/Other stuff ------------------------------- - I hold a Private Pilot's License (flying out of Oakland International) - Design editor of both the school's newspaper and yearbook - Paid intern at a major science museum - Over 150 non-paid, volunteer hours at said science museum - CSF Member (inactive because I'm paid now) - NHS Member - Spent two weeks of my summer on a conservation/field research trip in Montana - Lead clarinetist in our school's highest band (have played since 4th grade) - Member of the Parliamentary Debate Team (one of the top ranked in our league) - Play on our school's golf team (also one of the top ranked in our league) - Will be doing 30-40 hours of service with the poor/marginalized this summer - Note that I'll probably do more between now and senior year I'm sure I could think of more but I have to go write an essay now. ------------------------------------------------ I'm more interested in my chances for UCLA because I'll most likely get into Purdue. Also note that I am a California resident (since UCLA is in California). Also, I don't know if it matters, but my dad attended UC Berkeley and has a PhD in Mathematics (specializing in fluid dynamics). Thanks for any help.My UC GPA is actually more like 4.6 - 4.8. I miscalculated it, sorry. more

Voting Question: Can any one correct this and make these paragraghs sound better?

According to the calendar of September 21 is International day of peace. A day of peace is a good idea for three reasons. First of all, International day means to me a day of peace because of the war. The war is bad because it’s with my country. My friend’s brother that I knew very well is in the war. We both miss him very much. I think there should be no war just peace. Second of all, my house has no peace. There’s always yelling. My mom yells at me to clean my room all the time. I fight about my brothers a lot about dumb things. I think there should me more peace in my home too. Third of all I think that there should be no more shootings. I think that no more shooting is apart of peace. Like in Oakland some people shoot or hurt people for no reason. Same thing in New York and Los Angeles. I think it needs to stop. Those are the reasons about why I think International day of peace is important and what I think it means. The whole world should are peace. We shouldn’t have wars either. There souldent be random shootings too. My house should have more peace too. That’s what I think of International day of peace.  more

Resolved Question: Excel and database?

It appears that there is a translation problem from our server to a spreadsheet. Not every zip code has (-) a dash after it, but at least half do. The Pitney Bowes machine doesn't recognize this and adds it to a number 931226. This of course, messes up the entire mailer. Can I get this fixed? Resolved Question: Should the NFL expend the NFL franchise(s) to Los Angeles?

Without any doubt that the NFL might refuse to put any NFL team in Los Angeles since 1994 as Rams moved to St. Louis and Raiders moved back to Oakland. I don't believe that the USC-UCLA game isn't enough for total population from Los Angeles and Anaheim areas that they can watch the famous college football team. Second, the population is care about their famous baseball and basketball teams as Clippers, Lakers, Dodgers, and Angels. Two years ago, Californian governor Arnold wanted the NFL to expend the two teams in Los Angeles. The NFL still uncertain if they could bring the NFL team back to Los Angeles when they have special on the international country to host the regular game. W/O doubt, that the NFL still uncertain to bring the team back to Southern California. The one city of nation's ten largest cities don't have the NFL team. 1. New York (Jets and Giants) 2. Los Angeles (none) 3. Chicago (Bears) 4. Houston (Texans) 5. Philadelphia (Eagles) 6. Phoenix (Cardinals) 7. San Antonio (none) 8. San Diego (Chargers) 9. Dallas (Cowboys) 10. Detroit (Lions) more

Resolved Question: Most welcoming airport in the world?

I have been to a number of International Airports. But never found ant comparable to Logan International in Boston. Entering into the customs area I was always greeted with. "Welcome to the United States of America and the city of Boston." Then everyone was told of all the people wearing blue blazers to help everyone at entry control and customs. What a great place. I always had wished every US airport greeted everyone that way. My worst experience was Oakland International in California returning from Viet Nam in 1967. What a disappointment. But away from the airport, a cab driver made up for it. He was Lebonese. We talked and he reached out and turned off the meter. Then he stopped and bought a 6 pack of Michelob. Had a couple beers together. He was the first person from an Arabic country I had ever met. Though he was Christian. At the airport I had to deal with the protestors and though I was a criminal. And it was a foreign immigrant that welcomed me home.I have never been through Heathrow. But have been through Gatwick. That would be second choice. Course being American I am partial to Englisg speaking places more than others and partial to my own country. Far as feeling an alien, that would be Miami International. Everything in Spanish but a Carribean dialect I can't even begin to understand. Many other countries are friendly and all but my limited language abilities make me miss a lot.boorman: Do you also blame Boeing for providing the planes for the terrorists, Texaco for the jet fuel ? Resolved Question: What’s with the San Francisco Bay Area?

So now the Oakland Airport apologizes to the troops that they treated worse than they do people entering this country illegally! Oakland International Airport officials apologized for prohibiting a planeload of U.S. troops, just back from Iraq, from entering the passenger terminal during a layover Thursday, prompting conservative pundits and bloggers to hold up the incident as an example of the Left Coast dishonoring soldiers. http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/ci_7070500?source=email But let’s take the Bay Area a bit further: OAKLAND AIRPORT OUTRAGE Yesterday in our Government Outrage segment, I didn't have time to talk about this story. Sadly this story takes place, yet again, in the San Francisco Bay Area. Marines were on their way home from Kuwait to Hawaii when they stopped at the Oakland Airport for a layover. But the Oakland International Airport said that military personnel were not allowed in the airport terminal. The Marines were forced to deplane 400 yards away from the terminal. This was not because of security reasons as the Marines were already allowed to deplane at airports in Germany and New York. The airport has now apologized to the troops. Can you believe how the San Francisco Bay area is treating our men and women in uniform? Here's just a partial list. Permission to dock the Battleship Iowa in San Francisco as a floating museum to our Navy and the role of the Iowa in World War II ... DENIED. Permission for the Navy's Blue Angels to participate in an air show over San Francisco Bay ... OPPOSED Permission for the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon to film a recruitment commercial on California Street in San Francisco ... DENIED. And now this debacle at the Oakland Airport? Do these people have no shame? Isn’t this the area that Nancy Pelosi represents? To the person who thinks he/she will get a violation. If that happens, it won't be from me. I give violations to filthy mouthed trolls.. ONLY! I respect your freedom of speech. more

Resolved Question: People who have been to San Francisco International Airport before, can you please give me some advice?

I will be in the San Francisco area later this month and I need some help in figuring out exactly when I need to leave the Oakland area where I will be staying so that I can make it to the airport in time to head out for the airport on the day that I will fly out to come back to Central Florida (the day I leave will be a Monday). So here goes... My flight leaves San Francisco International Airport at 11:35 AM and I need to get to the airport in time to be able to return my rental car to the Hertz counter, get from the Hertz counter to the main terminal, make it through security, and get to the boarding gate. Also, I already have my flight tickets and I will only have a carry-on bag, so I do not need extra time to go to the check-in counter and luggage counter. So with all of that in mind, what time do you think I should leave the Oakland area? I was thinking around 9:30 AM, but I don't want to leave way too early... more
