Resolved Question: San Francisco airport area to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum best way to get there?

I'm flying into SF and wanting to go to an A's game. Would my best bet to just take a Taxi? Or is there public transportation that could get me real close to the park? Never been so I don't know how safe either areas are and don't really want to be too much of a hassle or gamble too much since I'm traveling alone. Also how long would it take to get there from SF? Any websites or taxi numbers would be appreciated as well.Ok looking at the website it looks like the yellow line from the airport doesn't go to the colliseum. So I will have to jump on a different route if I come from the airport correct? more

Resolved Question: At Oakland Coliseum around July 9, 1979, I saw fireworks going off around the stands of right field. Why?

Looks like this was probably some post-4th-of-July trick or prank, but a few fans who had personal fireworks in that area of the stands were reacting that disco records were going to be blown up at Comiskey Park (another ballpark) 3 days later in Chicago, IL. I was in the third base area on the mezzanine, and the game was the A's and the Yankees. And I saw it first-hand!!! more

Resolved Question: Does Philadelphia have the worst fans? ?

UUUmmmmm.....NO! Look at this list of incidents that did not take place in Philadelphia. So be careful the next time you say Philly fans are awful. * August 26, 1986: A knife with a five-inch blade was thrown at rookie Wally Joyner of the California Angels after beating the Yankees. Joyner was grazed on the left arm but was not seriously harmed. * September 24, 1999: A fan jumped out of the stands and tackled Astros right fielder Bill Spiers in the bottom of the sixth inning. Spiers had a welt under his left eye, a bloody nose and whiplash. * November 24, 1999: Broncos fans throw snowballs with batteries in them at Raiders. * May 16, 2000: Backup Dodgers catcher Chad Kreuter was hit in the head by a fan, who also stole his cap. Kreuter and several Dodgers went into the stands and a brawl followed. * August 29, 2002: In the Majors' final game before the strike deadline, fans threw foul balls back onto the field and chanted "Don't Strike! Don't Strike!'' as the Anaheim Angels beat the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 6-1. * September 19, 2002: Kansas City coach Tom Gamboa was attacked by a father and son who came out of the stands at the same stadium, then called Comiskey Park. * April 15, 2003: A fan ran on the field at U.S. Cellular Field and attempted to tackle an umpire during a game between the White Sox and visiting Kansas City. * April 19, 2003: Texas Rangers right fielder Carl Everett was beaned in the back of the head with a cell phone in Oakland. * April 24, 2003: A fan was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct for throwing a cell phone, which hit San Diego Padres third baseman Sean Burroughs, during a Chicago Cubs game. * April --, 2003: A fan almost bit off a police officer's pinkie finger when the officer tried to help Coliseum security break up an argument between fans. * June 10, 2003: One Orioles fan threw cork at Sosa from the stands and another ran onto the field throwing cork at him. * July 8, 2003: An 8-year-old boy at the Oakland Athletics' game against Tampa Bay had burns on one of his legs when another fan tossed a cherry bomb from the upper deck of the Coliseum. * September 20, 2003: A Giants fan in the Dodger Stadium parking lot shot a Dodgers fan. "Apparently we have multiple suspects who are Giants fans who got into an argument with a Dodger fan," Officer Adriana Sanchez, a police spokeswoman said. * December 24, 2003: Two fans at an Islanders game, dressed up as Santa Claus due to a promotion which invited fans to dress up as Santa Claus for free admission to the game against the Philadelphia Flyers, were permitted to parade across the ice between periods, along with the almost one thousand other Santa-fans. The two removed their red jackets to reveal jerseys of the rival Rangers, and were knocked to the ice and had their shirts ripped off by Islanders fans. * September 11, 2005: Baltimore Ravens fans cheer quarterback Kyle Boller reeling in pain due to a hyper-extended left toe, after being tackled by Larry Triplett. * September 15, 2005: Ohio State tight end Ryan Hamby received hate letters since dropping a sure touchdown pass during the Buckeyes' loss to Texas. * September 22, 2005: Several Giants fans spewed New Orleans Saints fans with taunts about Hurricane Katrina during a game at Giants Stadium. "Where's your swimmies? I hope you have your swimmies!" one fan asked a New Orleans resident. "You deserve what you got," another said. "New Orleans people are stupid." * October 16, 2005: Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox fumbled a snap, threw three interceptions, including one in overtime that was returned for a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Fans subsequently threw trash on his lawn. * October 25, 2005: Houston Astro Craig Biggios wife Patty was slapped by a White Sox fan after Scott Podsednik hit a game-winning homerun. * March 22, 2006: Philadelphia Flyer R.J. Umberger was hit from behind and spent considerable time on the ice before getting to his feet and skating off under his own power while being booed by New York Rangers fans. You don't get it. Donovan McNabb has thrown in some huge clunkers in some very big games. Like two NFC championship games at home and being heavily favored. He also threw up during the last drive of the super bowl and had to have Freddie Mitchell call the plays because he couldn't. I'm not killing him but he has choked in big spots deserves to hear when he does. He has also played terrible by his own admission this year. The fans didn't bench him, his coach did. Giants fans were booing Manning yesterday and he just won a super bowl and was named MVP of it. A lot of fans boo, not just in Philly. more

Resolved Question: Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is back! Have naming rights gone too far?

Whoa, I missed this, but back in September the naming contract on Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum expired when McAfee (formerly Network Associates) declined to renew the deal. And no new naming rights contract has been signed (and with the economy in ruins, especially in California, expect this to continue). So, the Oakland Coliseum name is back! Which is as it should be. Granted that the name on a building is just a token string and doesn't make the seats better or the field play differently, but has anyone else had enough of the naming rights nonsense? When the Rangers signed a deal with Ameriquest, I knew it wouldn't last the 20 year duration -- and it barely made it to three. And let's not even discuss the fiasco in Houston with Enron. Which name-sponsored park would you most like to see either revert to its original or, if it has been sponsored since groundbreaking (Miller, Coors...), be re-christened with a non-corporate name? Except Wrigley. That was named for the family, not the chewing gum brand. http://www.mercurynews.com/alamedacounty/ci_10509334?nclick_check=1  more

Resolved Question: Where do the Oakland A's park?

Resolved Question: Help? Baseball Record Broken in the early 70s?

OK, some time in the early 70s 72-74 most likely, my dad took me to a baseball game in either Candlestick Park or the Oakland Coliseum. During the game some fellow broke or made some sort of Home run record. They even stopped the game for few minutes and brought out champagne for him. Who the heck was this, what record was broken? I always thought Hank Aaron but looking it up, he brook his record in Atlanta. Could he have broken some other record in the Bay Area? Thanks for any insight from baseball history fans.Well, Willie Mays does sound right, and July 1970 is just under the wire (we moved to CA that summer.) more

Resolved Question: Best way to get out of the crappy Oakland Airport traffic congestion?

I'll be flying into Oakland Airport 12/23. OAK's terminal traffic - to put it simply - sucks and it will especially be worse around the holidays. Last year, it was faster for me to literally walk out of the airport to find my friend's car rather than wait on the curb. No joke! Is there an easier way to bypass the congestion in the roundabout? I was thinking of taking the rental car shuttle and having my friend pick my up there, taking air BART to the Coliseum and having him pick me up at a BART station, taking a cab to a gas station/restaurant outside of the airport, parking in short-term parking and having him meet me there, etc. Any other ideas? more

Resolved Question: Do garage door openers work on a frequency?

I was sitting here on Y/A this morning and my garage door opened all by itself. One opener was in the car, in the garage, and the other was about 30 miles away, in the parking lot at the Oakland Coliseum. Should I be worried? Can it be changed, if it's a frequency issue? more

Resolved Question: Is there a lot of free parking near the Oakland Coliseum for A's games?

I've heard that it's fairly easy to find some free parking within a reasonable walking distance of the Oakland Coliseum for an Athletics game. Is this true? If so, are the neighborhoods relatively safe near there, or are there a lot of car break-ins? Thanks! more
