moreOpen Question: How to keep yourself motivated to work out and diet?
I'm only 15, 5'6"/7" and around 240ish pounds. For my weight I am active. [but I haven't been recently, so that is why I am starting]
Anyways, recently I've been kinda depressed at school because a lot of my friends have been loosing weight rapidly. [it's because they are nearly anorexics] They skip out on eating some days, and they skip out of breakfast and lunch most days. [I don't think I could and would ever do this] I use to be worried about what I ate, and exercising, but it caused too much stress on me and i didn't like that... but i was loosing weight, [and i wasnt happy] but then I stayed with a friend for 3 months in the summer and came back 30ish pounds heavier! And tbh, I didn't care and was happy for a long time, until I stepped on the scale today >.>
I don't think I could skip out on meals [well breakfast some days], but I have a test nearly every morning so I eat the school's breakfast to help bring my stress down. [I worry about my grades too much I think] And at lunch I sit with a bunch of guy friends who all play football so they eat a ton. Seeing what they eat makes me want to eat it, so I give in... and it's very hard because it's so much stress and causes me to gain weight.. =/
Sorry for all the boring/stupid description. But I would really want to know how I can help keep myself motivated?
Oh and what do YOU do when you are at a salad/hot bar and you see a ton of tasty food, but isn't that healthy?
If I kept a list of all the food I ate?

moreOpen Question: How do I lose weight, gain muscle and get in fit shape when I have little money and horrible self-esteem?
I'm pretty much pinching pennies and spending money only on necessities 95% of the time. I've been very depressed and lethargic and have been living a sedentary lifestyle for several months. I'm finally starting to feel a little dedicated and want to take things further and make a habit out of it before I lose interest like I have for other things I've wanted to pursue. I don't know anybody who has some weights or aerobic equipment I could borrow, but I'm hoping to at least get a jump rope ASAP, and perhaps save up for some dumbbells. I'm trying to cut off on carbohydrates and go cold turkey on soda; whenever I'm thirsty I just drink water now, but I'm trying to start getting iced tea and diet green tea too, I don't smoke or drink alcohol or do any kind of drugs. I don't think I could afford to go to a gym or take any kind of fitness class, but years ago I did martial arts training and thought I'd try to repeat it by memory on my own free time; I also got a Krav Maga book by David Kahn for Christmas, which I hear *might* help with weight loss and such a considerable amount. I'm kind of afraid to depend on a scale because I think that seeing how much I weigh now would discourage me. I want to try doing regular sets of sit ups, push ups, jumping jacks and such every day and upping the sets weekly-monthly, and perhaps walking in place for 30 minutes daily if I can't find the time to go for a walk outdoors. I'm hoping to improve my eating habits by laying off junk and going more to vegetables and things that will help clean my digestive system including frequently drinking water. My low self-esteem is a big problem I've had for all my life, I thought I might be able to use it to my advantage in getting in shape and being healthy by seeing the pain from working out and the repugnant taste of healthier foods vs. junk food as punishment for me being so worthless and horrible in general, but it seems to only make me feel worse and not have the desire or energy to be active. It doesn't help much that I'm going through very heavy emotional stress. I'd like to do something I could use to get in good shape over a 4-month period of time, and then just try to stay that way after.
moreOpen Question: how can I adjust to a girthy penis?
Hi everyone,
I need your help. I just started dating this guy, we are going to take it slow but I think we are advancing to the next step. He's not the longest guy (7") but what i'm worried about is the girth. During some heavy "petting", my curiosity got the best of me and I took a hold of it; or at least what I could grab. I could not wrap my hand around it. Long story short, after some measurements, I realized its about 2" of more girth than my usual "equipment"; so about 7" inches. I'm not going to lie, I'm very concerned about oral and vaginal sex. I pried myself on doing the best job I can and I feel that this will hinder me. Has anyone had this experience? What did you do? Share you thought please!! I appreciate it a lot. Sorry about the long story

The Rules of Law Enforcement
Part I
During the summer of 2006, Phoenix Police detectives James Bennett and Mark Butler investigated robberies at two local electronic stores in north Phoenix. Digital cameras, iPods, CDs, and computer games were among the items listed as stolen. During their investigation they received anonymous tips detailing general descriptions of the suspect. The detectives routinely went back to the two crime scenes to gather more evidence and to speak with customers who may have seen the suspect.
On their way to one of the crime scenes, the two detectives spotted a person with a heavy coat walking briskly out of a different electronics store. Curious as to why someone would be wearing a heavy coat during the summer in Phoenix, the two detectives pulled into the parking lot to speak with this person. The person matched only the height description of the suspect. Subsequently, the two detectives searched the person and found a small 22- caliber gun, three iPods, and two digital cameras. The detectives placed the suspect under arrest, read the Miranda rights, and took the suspect to the police station.
Part II
During the interrogation, the suspect revealed who else was behind the robberies. Based on this evidence and testimony, the courts issued an arrest warrant for the additional suspect.
When the police arrived at the suspect’s home, the suspect was not there. The police informed the 14-year-old girl who lived there of the arrest warrant. The police advised it was important for them to enter the home. Unsure as to what to do, the girl only nodded. During their wait, the police began a preliminary search of the house for evidence. They searched the living room, the couch, the kitchen, and the cabinets. They found three small bags of marijuana and some unidentifiable pills. The police did not find any electronic equipment detailed in the robberies. After 20 minutes, the suspect returned home and was informed of the details in the arrest warrant. The police arrested the suspect based on the discovered evidence and the suspected robberies. The police continued to search the rest of the house. In the garage behind some storage boxes, they found a digital camera and some computer games, still in the packaging.
The suspect was taken to the police station and questioned on the robberies and on the drugs found in the home.
moreResolved Question: Do heavy equipment operators have to sit in a classroom to get their certificate?
I hate sitting in a classroom listening to some asshat talk, it's even more infuriating than watching television. I know that heavy equipment operators have to receive training to get their certificate, does this mean that they have to take a bunch of completely unrelated classes like algebra and writing? Or do they get to work in a garage learning how to use these machines?
If they do, is there any kind of skill that I could learn that would get me decent pay without having to ride a desk to learn it?
moreVoting Question: Who is to blame for high health care costs today?
I am reading an article on CNN where a a Dr. Screiber breaks down his costs and explains how he will basically get minimum wage if medicare payments are cut.
He explains that he charges $70 for a blood pressure check, medicare pays $44.
He charges $92 for a visit relating to a cough, medicare pays $58.
For a 30 minute visit he charges $120, medicare pays $88.
I understand the equipment is also expensive and the malpractice insurance he pays is about $7000 but that is low he explains it can be as high as $100,000.
It seems to me the equipment is overpriced, maybe because too few suppliers. I don;t know but having worked with high end electronic devices for many years I do not believe that most medical equipement is worth half of what it is being sold for. As far as capabilities and being advanced.
It also seems that the insurance companies are charging a rediculous amount for insurance if it is $100,000 a year. If it costs that much for insurance to me that indicates that the majority of our Docs are not to be trusted with our health and well being in the first place. Thats a high cost to pay for an "uh-oh" unless the "uh-ohs" are very common and that high cost is needed to offset them. Then I would think we need a much heavier screening of Docs to justify their fees before the practice.
I am thinking also that the fees he charges are ridiculous. $70 for a blood pressure check...don't most pharmacies, grocery stores and walmart do that for free?
So who is to blame for high costs of health care? Doctors, Insurance or medical suppliers.
Have we let them get run away like the banks by chargnig whatever they want ratehr than forcing them to have competitive pricing?
moreResolved Question: PULLING TRAILER! Is this safe (Pics)?
Hi! I have a 92 Dodge Dakota, V6 3.9 Magnum with a 4 speed auto trans with overdrive.
I am thinking about pulling 6X16 landscape trailer with a double axle (pictured below) with 2,000 lbs of landscape equipment. 3500 lbs approximate gross trailer weight.
Will this be safe? Will the trailer be too heavy for the truck?
I currently pull a 5x10 landscape trailer with a gross weight of approximately 1700lbs and its somewhat heavy for the truck.
Will I F*ck up the truck pulling such heavy load? In the owner's manual, it said the max trailer pulling capacity for this particular vehicle is 8,200 lbs..
The truck CAN pull it if i press the peddle down hard enough.. But my biggest fear jackknifing the trailer if I press the brakes because its a light truck.. Or the truck will have a hard time stopping when the trailer gets going.. Any advice is strongly appreciated!
God bless America!

moreResolved Question: What power inverter would be ideal for a battery back up?
Hello,
I have been considering this idea for a while but I have had it on the back burner for too long. I've seen a few videos online of people putting a battery inverter and a car battery together to make a strong, long lasting battery backup. This idea really excites me, I don't love the cost of commercially made battery backups, and I am often disappointed on how they often like to create such heavy tier cost, 400 watts for 100 dollars, 800 watts for 200 dollars and so on.
I have some expensive electronic equipment that would greatly benefit from clean, uninterpretable power. A computer, monitor, stereo equipment, projector (the projector is the key portion here as it would be 'damaged' by shutting down without a chance to go through it's power down sequence) and so on. I feel confident that I don't draw over 10 amps at 120v. I am pretty sure that a 1500 watt setup would be more than enough.
I really like the idea of being certain that the inverter is giving whatever is plugged into it 'clean' power, sine wave or power that isn't fluctuating in voltage. I've seen back up power supplies speak of a feature they call AVR. Is that a vital idea? I imagine that the power comes straight from the battery, being certain that it is always clean, but I could be wrong.
I was also thinking of which would be better, two smaller car batteries or one larger RV battery. I saw a video of a guy speaking about how it would create less heat if you had a 24 volt (two battery) setup because the inverter wouldn't have to change the voltage so much.
Thanks!
moreVoting Question: This illegal supported his wife and kids IS this supposed to excuse why he was here, right "Defenders?"?
PHOENIX -- The so-called "Chandler Rapist," accused of attacking six girls during an 18-month crime spree, entered a plea bargain Monday that calls for a prison sentence of 168.5 years.
Santa Batiz Aceves, 39, pleaded guilty to 12 charges -- five counts of sexual conduct with a minor, five counts of child molestation and one count each of aggravated assault and attempted sexual assault.
He will be sentenced April 2.
Batiz Aceves, who police say is an illegal immigrant, sat in the juror's box with his back to the media until the hearing began as he appeared before Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Kristin Hoffman.
He was arrested in January 2008 and police said DNA test results showed he was a match for a serial rapist who had been stalking and raping young girls in Chandler for nearly two years, beginning in June 2006.
Batiz Aceves initially was charged with 47 felony counts, including raping five girls and attacking another. Authorities said he threatened his victims with knives, screwdrivers and a pellet pistol and usually attacked in the mornings after parents had left for work. All of the victims were 12 to 15 years old and lived within a two-mile radius of Batiz-Aceves' home.

moreResolved Question: trying to improve on pull-ups without pull-up "equipment"?
I need to increase the number of pull-ups I can do before starting my new job. When I have somewhere I can do them, I have been doing negatives (starting at chin level and slowly lowering) and it works great, but I am traveling for a few months, and do not always have access to something to work out on (eg playgrounds, bunk beds, heavy shelves, I'm creative).
I was wondering if anyone had ideas for ways to continue working to build the muscles used in pull-ups at times when doing pull-ups is impractical. Obviously, I do not have access to a gym, so no weights of machines available.
Any thoughts?
moreResolved Question: Panic attacks in dogs?
Hi all
I had a very troubling experience with one of my dogs last night, and my vets is not open on a saturday so please indulge me with your advice.
It would appear that my dog is afraid of the dark and the wind - not thunderstorms funnily enough. While we knew shw was a bit scared, last night threw me for six. She had a panic attack which lasted about two hours until i gave her some doggy valium usually reserved for fireworks.
She was panting and scrambling around trying to find somewhere to settle, under the bed, on the bed, under the bed again, pacing the hallway, running up and down the stairs, under the bed again etc. She was terrified. And she got REALLY hot with all the stress and I could not calm ehr down.
Usually we ignore her behaviour - but last night ws impossible as she kept everyone up all night.
It was not a storm, or even VERy windy. Just a bit of heavy rain really. In the ~UK this weather is fairkly common.
I am at my wits end - I dont want to resort to Valium every time we have bad weather as she may develop a dependency, but the whole thing was heartbreaking to watch and nothing i could do would calm her down. Even cuddles, which i cant do everytime there is a storm. What if ~I am not here? She even knocked down all the cleaning equipment and vaccum cleaner in her distress to find somewhere safe.
Please help!

moreResolved Question: Would this be a good movie?
It's the 80's. There are two abused kids (15 yrs old), and they run away. "They" don't intend to. Sid has a bicycle trailer, and the other, his friend Tim, covers himself up with all the stuff while the first one is not there. The camera doesn't show this, the audience doesn't know. Sid rides the bike away, loaded with his stuff, and comments "Wow, this is heavier than normal."
He gets to his hideout, some little shanty out in the sticks, and he is sitting down, taking a rest, when he notices the bags move. He is wearing a machete on his hip, to cut brush with at the shanty, and he pulls it out and sneaks over to the trailer. He smacks the bags aside, and draws back, and Tim is there. So they have an argument, then Sid decides to let Tim stay. They end up traveling around the state, having various run-in's with the law. It turns out only Tim has been reported, and Sid has not. The law is cracking down hard on Tim, and when they're in the park, Sid is in the trees, but Tim is spotted by the cops. He rides away, and the camera shows a sign that says something about a cliff ahead. We hear a scream, then the camera fades.
It opens at a church, during his funeral. The preacher says something about the body not being found, and then the camera cuts to the hideout. Tim and Sid are there, and Sid is wondering how he did it. He tells how he jumped off his bike, threw some fake blood down the cliff, then ducked out of sight before the cops saw him (80's were a pioneering time for DNA and stuff). The cops sent out a search party, but it came up empty, assuming the coyotes dragged the body off.
This is a VERY basic outline of it, but would it be a good movie? If there's a movie maker out there interested in making it, I could send more info by email. I don't have the funds or equipment to undertake such a task, so I can't easily do it myself. I just ask to know the title of the film, and perhaps have it sent to me before it's on the shelves?
moreResolved Question: Fitness moves I can do without equipment?
OK, I had mono but am over it now, but the 6 months of the illness has left my body pretty weak. I noticed a 10lb weight seemed very heavy to me when I was looking at dumbells at a store, so I'm definitely a weakling.
The main places I want to exercise to tone up are my thighs, the area between my hips, abs, and forearm.
Are there any exercise moves I am able to do that do not require ANY equipment? Pictures are loved. Thanks!
moreResolved Question: Ok so I'm thinking of starting a new diet& fitness plan?
I can improve my aerobic fitness by doing moderate activity 5+ days a week, and vigorous exercise 3-4 days a week. For moderate activity I can do some fast walking, slow swimming, bicycling. Something to increase my heart rate and increase my breathing. For the vigorous I can jog, bicycling, or aerobics. An activity that speeds my heart rate and breathing up to high levels. At least 30 minutes of exercise is needed, that can be broken up into smaller sessions. I need to start out with a warm up and finish with a cool down. And the exercise needs to include the large muscle groups, like the arms and legs
need to exercise at least three days a week to improve my muscular strength. By repeating the same exercise or working against a heavier load, keeping the repetitions the same. Doing a half set up with my arm's behind my head creates a heavier load. Doing traditional push ups or some against the wall is suggested as well. Maintain proper posture during movements while keep the movements controlled, and varying the intensity. I need to Work my way up to three sets of movements, 25 half sit-ups and 10-20 push-ups, breaking them up into smaller sets. Using equipment such as balance balls, barbells, or elastic tubing are suggested as well.
I can improve my flexibility by planing a program of stretching exercise that involves most of my
joints, at least three days a week. Include static stretching such as hurdler's stretch, spinal twist,
or a doorframe hamstring stretch. I need to take the stretches to the point of tension not pain,
holding each stretch for 10-30 seconds, repeating one or two more times. I can eventually work my
way up to dynamic stretches. Which include the double hip rotation, shoulder stretch, neck
rotation, or the alternative hamstring stretch.
moreResolved Question: disabled and unemployed?
Is one of, if not the biggest thing, that stops you working that you would like a more 'physical' manual job rather than just sitting behind a desk, like 'we' seem to be expected to do but the facilities arent there to enable you to do it? for example, would you like workshop/garage work (like me) but the workbenches are too high to reach, equipment you'd need to use is too heavy? access is inadequate, you need to carry a lot of tools/equipment with you to do the job?
or another example is the tools of the trade, do you have difficulty using things but would be ok if they were modified to suit you?
Im kind of in this situation now, i have spina bifida, use a wheelchair and am unemployed, but want to work, but dont want the typical wheelchair users job, i.e. sitting behind a desk taping away on a keyboard or doing the phones, i want to get my hands dirty, move around, as i can and feel that you should at the very least go for what youre capable of., but i find obstacles to the work i want to do (mainly the attitudes of other people) but, if the facilities/adaptations were there there would be no obstacle,
And its giving me ideas which obviously i cant say too much about, on t'internet, dont want to run the risk of anyone stealing it, but just wondered if the facilities etc were there for you to do a more manual job rather than a desk job, would you?

Do I need to buy special boots/shoes for the snow, just to walk in the town or I can use normal sneakers. For few day, I don't want to bring with me heavy equipment.
Any additional useful informtion is more than appreciated.
Thanks guys,
L.
moreResolved Question: Do you think the structuring of this answer is correct?
Health and sanitation:
The average life expectancy during the early 1900's in Australia was 53 years compared to the present expectancy of 81.7 years, with females continually having 4-5 years longer than males. This makes a difference of almost 30 years. It was not uncommon for infants to be orphaned or experience the passing away of a sibling. Many children would die within the first few years of life with the presence of diseases, which were infectious and as a bubonic plague had broken out in Sydney in 1900. Such illnesses and deaths were experienced to a less significant degree in suburbs of general higher affluence. Because residents situated in the north shore and eastern suburbs were in access to greater wealth, appropriate hygiene, sewerage, sanitation, necessary medical aid and healthy consumption of food was very commonly affordable.
Infrastructure conditions played a major factor in preventing middle and upper class members from diseases. In contrast to working class suburbs, a vast majority of roads were sealed. In affluent suburbs. Roads that were not sealed could have suffered from heavy rainfall with the spreading on the streets of garbage and horse manure, which attracted disease-carrying rats and flies. Another factor which enabled a better quality of life was hygienic conditions. Many houses would have flushing toilets, which enabled a cleaner land environment and running water taps which provided cleaner water. One example of disadvantage to middle and upper class people in a case of severe illness or injury, was that almost all hospitals were usually of a poor hygiene for the well-being of patients and doctors often not sterilising equipment and washing their hands.
Therefore, these resulted in risks in the health of people living in the middle and upper class conditions were considerably less in comparison to the working class.
moreVoting Question: Question about rugs/blankets?
So I'm probably going to get a pony and i am in the middle of working out equipment prices and i am looking at turnout rugs, i am looking at medium turnout rugs (the weather never really gets below -5 C here) the one that I am looking at doesn't have a neck cover, it's 600 denier, I'm planning on keeping out on pasture board over summer (About late march until mid september).
I want to rug over the winter even though he/she will be in his/her stable, which is what the livery yard i would use do, even if it's just a stable rug. Over summer I want to put a turnout rug on over night so i would put it on just before it gets dark and take it off when I bring it in, in the morning because we get some harsh storms over the summer usually in July/August it's a heavy down-pour of rain with thunder usually. I don't know whether or not to rug for summer nights, also the fields aren't always dry and i want to try to keep my possible horse as clean as possible because I hate trying to groom thick mud off. I am getting a stable rug for winter days and nights because it gets frosty and snows on the moors, (yes i will give turn out for an hour or so per day while i muck out, etc.)
Do I rug for summer nights?
What rug should i use in the stable over winter? (don't say "the stable rug, duh!" because the livery yard also gives lessons and the stabled horses will have a stable rug or turn-out rug)
We're using straw if that helps with how warm it will be.
A large pony/small horse, will probably be a Welsh D X with a finer breed (TB or something).
Would it be better if i had the neck piece on the turnout rug? We're coastal so we get really harsh gails that can get up to 60mph on harsh days and nights. It rains about 200 days on average per year, therefore i don't want him or her to get cold and wet because it rains all year round, the summers here are horrible, rarely ever sunny we might get a heat wave for a day or two over summer then it starts raining again. It even started snowing slightly once.

moreResolved Question: Would you move or sue in this situation?
I live in a basement apartment in NE Ohio. We have almost a foot of snow still on the ground from snowstorms earlier this past month. Yesterday, I was sitting at my computer desk and noticed a wet spot on the carpet. So I took a towel and soaked up the spill. I went over to the baseboard heater and when I put my hand on the carpet I noticed that under the heater it was wet also. I decided to check the carpet near the baseboard. It was soaked. So I called my brother-in-law who is a carpenter. He said to check the window for condensation. No condensation. I checked the wall and paint actually chipped off. So he said that there is a leak in the foundation or concrete slab. I called my landlord to check out the problem. He informed me that when it snows that the foundation will leak sometimes after a heavy snowstorm. I've lived here nearly 3 years and he informs me that this has occurred before! A former tenant said she was moving because she discovered black mold along the baseboard near the carpet. I thought she was exaggerating but after yesterday she wasn't. So my landlord told me to mop up the wet carpeting with my towels. He never offered to come into the apartment to check the wall nor carpet. I kept wedding photos in a basket on the ground. All the photos were ruined. I had a stuffed animal that has strong sentimental value and it is soaking wet. Needless to say my computer, new tv, cable equipment are all located in the vicinity of the wet carpet. I called my insurance agent just to make sure I was covered for damages to my personal belongings. I can't believe that he didn't come in with a wet vac to soak up the moisture in the rug. My husband is a chemist and is concerned about mold. Needless to say, we are probably moving in the spring. Alot of rentals are offering security deposit specials right now. Should I call in the health department concerning the wet carpet? Would you sue or move? Thanks

Do we really need a gym to get big or can you do it with just home work outs?
This is a question on behalf of my friend. He currently own a pull up bar," perfect push up" equipment (yuoutube it if you are not sure what it is ), he does all the home work out routines possible from prison squats, sit ups arobics and all variations of push ups, uses the pull up bar for pull ups and chin ups, and does jogging around the neighbor hood and he also has a set of dubmells with different wieght ratio's to incorperate other styles of working out, so far so good. Hes friend goes to the gym and uses weights, they are in competition to see which one has better results. He wants to know in advance from you fellow gurus @ yahoo answers what they think would be the best result. Personally iv seen some home workouts and believe you dont really need the gym, however the use of some weights and heavy machinery could come in handy for that extra build. But otherwise not necessary, what do you think?

I just got a gym membership. I'm a girl; 5 foot 5 inches tall; 138 lbs; 15 years old. I'm kind of heavy, but it doesn't really show. I have a layer of fat over my stomach, and I was wondering, what should I do to burn that layer off, and after that's gone, what weight exercises should I do to tone it up and possibly get abs?
Also, my upper thighs touch, and I was wondering, what exercises I should do for that. At my gym, I have access to all the equipment, yoga, pilates, hot yoga, aerobic workout sessions, pool, etc.
If you have any exercises that helped you during your weight loss, I would love to hear about them so I can try them out.

moreResolved Question: Luger Aya Yasuda disqualified for missing weight? So why not just have her ditch the additional weight?
and let her compete in the winter games, instead of completely disqualifying her?!? The IOC needs to change their rules. This is one of those "duh" moments. ( o _ 0 ) Her "gear" is heavy. Not her. Ditch the heavy gear and let her compete!
This is a touchy subject. Japan's Aya Yasuda has been disqualified from the women's luge event today for being over weight.
Not "overweight." At 132 lbs, Yasuda is the ideal size for luging. It's her equipment that weighs too much.
Because of a miscalculation, Yasuda brought too much ballast with her to weigh-ins for today's competition. Lugers are allowed 13.1 kg of "additional weight." Yasuda brought 13.3.http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/vancouver/blog/fourth_place_medal/post/Luger-Aya-Yasuda-disqualified-for-missing-weight?urn=oly,219966Boogie, if I were her? moreResolved Question: Plumbing with a combination of plastic and metal?
My wife's parents have a leaky joint in their bathroom where the water heater connects to the shower. It's a constant drip and they've been using a bucket for weeks (VERY small town, no plumbing services available).
I have fixed many a leaky faucet in the past, including the shower in my own apartment somewhat recently which led her parents to ask me to help them fix theirs. When I went over to take a look I found the setup is a little unusual and I'm not sure how to proceed.
They have a plastic pipe leading from an inaccessible hole in the wall (concrete, I'm not getting in without some heavy equipment) to a metal elbow joint, a small piece of the same plastic pipe leading to a second elbow joint, and then finally a third small plastic pipe leading into the shower pipe. All the connections and elbows are metal but the pipe leading in is plastic. I should also state that this is the hot water pipe, the plastic pipe is bright red (if that matters, I assume it's just to tell hot from cold - cold is white). The red pipe is approximately 1" thick, I didn't have a tape measure handy to get its exact measurements.
Upon inspection of the setup I found that the elbow joints are heavily rusted as well as have considerable mildew/mold (green and white solid-ish sludge) all over them. They weren't budging and I was about to back out of trying to fix it for fear of shattering one of the plastic connection pipes and causing a drip to become flooding (water was turned off of course but turning it back on would result in bad news). I was told to proceed and so I did, sure enough one of the pipes formed a crack and I stopped. They turned the water back on and it didn't leak (surprisingly, it didn't even drip) and I'm going back in a few days once I've had a chance to get to the plumbing shop.
Okay, so that's the story. The question (or questions) I'm looking for is.. I can't replace the main piece of plastic pipe, though at the moment it is fine, no damage at all. All the rust/sludge buildup happened past the first pipe's connection, leaving the pipe fully intact. I have to replace both elbow joints and two small pieces of plastic pipe, should I replace them with the same types as they have now? Is there a better option?
I'm not familiar with connecting metal to plastic. I have a pile of washers but I seem to recall my mother telling me years ago something to do with plastic and plumber's tape. Do I need something besides a simple washer for this project?
Worst case scenario is they have no water for 24 hours and call in an out of town plumber. But I'm hoping I can resolve this for them without it coming to that.

moreResolved Question: Thrice deported illegal alien declares: "United States Is Stupid"?
May 12, 11:59 AM
Cochise County, AZ
U.S. District Judge Henry Coke Morgan Jr. said: "The defendant has expressly stated that he has no respect for the United States and that once deported he will re-enter again and come back to Newport News where his history of alcohol abuse will further endanger the residents of this district." Judge Morgan sentenced Mota-Campos to 14 1/2 years in prison.
While 43 year old Rolando Mota-Campos' personal reign of terror is apparently over at least for a few years, it is beyond sickening why this illegal alien with ties to the Mexican Mafia was able to disregard our border as well as the lives of innocent Americans for 19 years. He first entered this country illegally in 1988.
TOPICS - Illegal immigration, illegal immigrants, United States, Rolando Mota-Campos , illegal alien, Mexican Mafia, border,
Mota-Campo's long criminal history in this country is as follows:
1992...abduction
1993...assault (2), DUI
1995...DUI, vehicular assault
1997...maiming, drunk in public
1998...attempted robbery
2003...DUI
2004...DUI, domestic violence (beating his wife and son)
2005...threatening to kill
The day after Mota-Campos was arrested with his 2004 DUI, he brutally attacked his wife and son. Fearing for her life, his wife then took their child and went into hiding. A few months later, he threatened to cut off the head of his wife's social worker with his machete because she would not tell him the whereabouts of his wife and child. Court documents reveal that Mota-Campos told her that "her sweet little head can come right off."
Though convicted numerous times on DUI charges, Mota-Campos has never served more than a 30-day sentence for that charge. Authorities point to the fact that he has used 16 different names as well as phony identification papers as the reason for the rather light punishment. This, despite his admission in 1993 to an immigration agent that he had killed someone while driving drunk in Mexico City.
Mota-Campos has entered this country illegally through the states of California, Arizona, and Texas.
This case is disgusting. However, it is certainly by no means unusual. The United States is filled with violent criminals who have entered this country illegally and who have no regard for human life.
On January 11, 2008, police arrested Mexican national Santana Batiz Aceves in Arizona and based on DNA evidence, charged him with 47 counts of rape. Police believe that Aceves is the notorious Chandler rapist, responsible for many child-rapes. The string of rapes began in 2006.
The 39 year old illegal alien had already been deported twice for drug charges in California. Aceves also faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault, sexual abuse of a minor, giving police false information, providing false documents, and trespassing.
Aceves was working as a heavy equipment operator and lived very close to two junior high schools.
These are but two of the many thousands of previously deported illegal aliens who have re-entered the United States, only to harm our citizens. They steal taxpayer services, they drive drunk on our highways, they kill our police officers, and they victimize our children.
Until the federal government actually gets serious about defending our border with Mexico, rather than actually encouraging the current invasion, it will continue to be open-season on American citizens. Perhaps, one day, we will be smart enough to elect a leader who will take their oath of office seriously, rather than another corrupt businessman who is willing to look the other way.
"United States is stupid...I come back every time." Those words were spoken by Mexican national Rolando Mota-Campos to an immigration agent after his 11th arrest in the United States. Incredibly, Mota-Campos has been deported three times and has vowed to return again after completing his prison term and yet another undeniably meaningless deportation to Mexico.
Mota-Campos whose face is adorned with a teardrop tattoo, stood in a Norfolk, Va. federal courtroom in October 2007 to be sentenced for threatening to cut off a social worker's head with a machete.
