Welcome to Buy Farm Animals Answers
Open Question: Why does the average vegetarian claim they save 100 animal lives a year when the truth is..?
they are simply not eating that which has been produced by the society in which we live; a production that is inevitable concerning the majority and is unlikely to stop? The truth is a vegetarian in no way saves 100 animal lives a year. A vegetarian merely allows that which has been produced to go to waste and thrown in the trash in a sense. It really isn't about saving 100 lives a year. Those lives will still be eaten and if not thrown out as waste. Vegetarians do not live on a local farm on a minute scale making decisions about the animals lives so they could accurately say they have saved 100 lives. Furthermore, there is quite a staggering percentage even in supermarkets and that that is chucked out when 'past its sell by date' or has not been bought that is thrown to the waste..In a sense, by not consuming that which has been produced they are being wasteful and irresponsible. The carcasses are dead anyhow. You didn't kill them. By not eating them, you are not saving them from death; the juggernaut is bigger than all of us trivial, singular mortals; they will be produced anyway..It just seems naive thinking to me.So, if you do not eat from your own volition, you don't like the taste or cannot stomach meat, it makes you sick, don't claim you are saving the planet one at a time because it is time to wake up you're not. The chicken you could have had for dinner feeds another mouth or is thrown in the trash as something that has not met supply and demand..that is all..you saved nothing...you're no superman/wonderwoman.. moreResolved Question: Friend is always annoying me and questioning my vegetarianism?
So normally I'm REALLY prepared to debate with someone who eats meat, because I have good arguments for when they say things like "Plants have feelings!" and "Humans are meant to eat meat." I even made a video with vegetarian comebacks, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAP2-1DE72M But anyway, I have this friend who loves animals and she gets her meat from organic places only where they "treat the animals well." But she is always asking me things that are hard to answer, like "Do you want everyone in the world to be vegetarian? If so then how would you get manure? Manure is the only good fertilizer!" And she talks about how her Uncle has a farm and how if everyone were vegetarian, so many people would loose their jobs, because it is their livelihood. But the most annoying thing is... she says things like "Well don't you kill mosquitos and little bugs sometimes? They're animals too!" And when we go shopping she says "These clothes were made in sweatshops... I thought you said humans and animals are equal? Well you're not treating them equally by buying these!" I tell her I can't do everything. But seriously, what do I do? moreResolved Question: I want to get farm aniamls when I get older?

After reading Animal Farm, 1984, Brave New World, discussing society, learning social studies in school, i've come to realize that the government isn't all that you think it was. Learned some of Machiavelli's theories. In addition, movies, life experiences, newspapers, articles, etc. The government isn't as righteous, and there are highly political things going on. Major companies that have connections and influence the government. Taxes being misused. Certain laws passed/not passed because of money involved. We as the people are being exploited whether we know it or not. Iraq War weapons of mass destruction? or invasion of a country for oil? Sudam Hussein already dead, so why is there still troops in Iraq? To spread democracy? my as. Thats just a cover up story for the public. seriously, the US government has underlying motives. the US exploits other countries, so why would it give a Fuk about helping them out. Everythings manipulative, business, money, power, involved. patriot act? wtf. they don't care about our safety. it just takes away our rights. Can't trust politicians. A righteous one in office is a rare thing. Trying to reform things, puhhleez. People nowadays are kept ignorant, happy, dumb and easy to control. They'd rather eat fried chicken and watch television. The average american would care less, as long as they have money, and can buy lots of shlt they dont need. With all these BullShlt laws, do you follow it,or do you do what you believe is rightt. even if it means jail time if you get caught. moreOpen Question: Very important question (animal lovers should read)?
Why are some animals bred when there is an abundance of them like cats and dogs and some small pets?Puppy mills cruelly breed hundreds of thousands of dogs a year when there are already pounds and rescue organizations already past full. Why buy a poorly treated expensive dog and support puppy mills when you can save one from a pound from being euthanized or a rescued dog or cat.Big breeding places should not exist because of disaster like at this small pet farm : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1265598/1-000-pets-killed-tears-breeding-centre.html and do you really want pets from places that do this: http://hoboken411.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/hoboken-stop-puppy-mills-oprah-winfrey.jpg or http://www.sonomapets.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/puppy-mill-300x187.jpg moreOpen Question: HELLO(: What is your take on this question about the book "Of Mice and Men"`?
Over the summer I was told to take notes on what the characters in the book feel that "home" is. YES, I read the book, and have my own notes. But, I would love to get a second opinion. Heres a character list from sparknotes to remind you who was in the book. Lennie - A large, lumbering, childlike migrant worker. Due to his mild mental disability, Lennie completely depends upon George, his friend and traveling companion, for guidance and protection. The two men share a vision of a farm that they will own together, a vision that Lennie believes in wholeheartedly. Gentle and kind, Lennie nevertheless does not understand his own strength. His love of petting soft things, such as small animals, dresses, and people’s hair, leads to disaster. Read an in-depth analysis of Lennie. Quantcast George - A small, wiry, quick-witted man who travels with, and cares for, Lennie. Although he frequently speaks of how much better his life would be without his caretaking responsibilities, George is obviously devoted to Lennie. George’s behavior is motivated by the desire to protect Lennie and, eventually, deliver them both to the farm of their dreams. Though George is the source of the often-told story of life on their future farm, it is Lennie’s childlike faith that enables George to actually believe his account of their future. Read an in-depth analysis of George. Candy - An aging ranch handyman, Candy lost his hand in an accident and worries about his future on the ranch. Fearing that his age is making him useless, he seizes on George’s description of the farm he and Lennie will have, offering his life’s savings if he can join George and Lennie in owning the land. The fate of Candy’s ancient dog, which Carlson shoots in the back of the head in an alleged act of mercy, foreshadows the manner of Lennie’s death. Read an in-depth analysis of Candy. Curley’s wife - The only female character in the novel, Curley’s wife is never given a name and is only mentioned in reference to her husband. The men on the farm refer to her as a “tramp,” a “tart,” and a “looloo.” Dressed in fancy, feathered red shoes, she represents the temptation of female sexuality in a male-dominated world. Steinbeck depicts Curley’s wife not as a villain, but rather as a victim. Like the ranch-hands, she is desperately lonely and has broken dreams of a better life. Read an in-depth analysis of Curley’s wife. Crooks - Crooks, the black stable-hand, gets his name from his crooked back. Proud, bitter, and caustically funny, he is isolated from the other men because of the color of his skin. Despite himself, Crooks becomes fond of Lennie, and though he derisively claims to have seen countless men following empty dreams of buying their own land, he asks Lennie if he can go with them and hoe in the garden. Read an in-depth analysis of Crooks. Curley - The boss’s son, Curley wears high-heeled boots to distinguish himself from the field hands. Rumored to be a champion prizefighter, he is a confrontational, mean-spirited, and aggressive young man who seeks to compensate for his small stature by picking fights with larger men. Recently married, Curley is plagued with jealous suspicions and is extremely possessive of his flirtatious young wife. Read an in-depth analysis of Curley. Quantcast Slim - A highly skilled mule driver and the acknowledged “prince” of the ranch, Slim is the only character who seems to be at peace with himself. The other characters often look to Slim for advice. For instance, only after Slim agrees that Candy should put his decrepit dog out of its misery does the old man agree to let Carlson shoot it. A quiet, insightful man, Slim alone understands the nature of the bond between George and Lennie, and comforts George at the novel’s tragic ending. Carlson - A ranch-hand, Carlson complains bitterly about Candy’s old, smelly dog. He convinces Candy to put the dog out of its misery. When Candy finally agrees, Carlson promises to execute the task without causing the animal any suffering. Later, George uses Carlson’s gun to shoot Lennie. The Boss - The stocky, well-dressed man in charge of the ranch, and Curley’s father. He is never named and appears only once, but seems to be a fair-minded man. Candy happily reports that the boss once delivered a gallon of whiskey to the ranch-hands on Christmas Day. Aunt Clara - Lennie’s aunt, who cared for him until her death, does not actually appear in the novel except at the end, as a vision chastising Lennie for causing trouble for George. By all accounts, she was a kind, patient woman who took good care of Lennie and gave him plenty of mice to pet. Whit - A ranch-hand. moreOpen Question: Can you point me to some resources for meat/poultry/dairy brand cruelty research on the web?
I am not vegetarian, but I recently started to become concerned about the animal products we consume. I saw a video of a dairy cow that was just awful. The abuse it showed was upsetting to me, and the filth that I saw was disgusting. Even if one does not care about animal welfare, the idea that a cow can be covered in its own waste as we extract products for our own consumption makes me wary of product quality. Even if I do decide to go vegan, I cannot force my husband to do it. So the next best thing is for me to make informed choices about which brands I will buy. I will never buy anything from Dean Foods, land o lakes or Horizon Organic again. I found cornucopia.org, and they have a rating system for organic dairies which has helped me a lot. I am looking for similar information on egg/poultry brands, pork and beef brands, and non-organic dairy brands. I can buy local for a lot of things, which means I could see with my own eyes if the animals are tortured or filthy. I want to find out more about national brands though. I am not sure if I trust the peta organization for this kind of information, because they are biased toward not consuming animal products at all, and their propaganda seems to be intended to imply that all farms are filthy and neglectful. Any web links you can share would be appreciated! moreVoting Question: Does anyone know how I can find local dairy farms in my area?
I really want to start buying dairy products form a local farm where I know the animals are being treated well (being vegan is getting out of my budget and more difficult, plus I want to support local farming). hahah(: But, I can't seem to find any dairy farms in my area. I know there has to be some, however. When I use google to try to find some, nothing helpful comes up. I'm currently living in North Idaho, if that helps at all. *I know this isn't exactly the right category, but I couldn't find any others that fit my question lol. moreResolved Question: URGENT: Does anybody have the book Animal Farm??? 10 pts!!!?

Hi, Im looking for cheap land (at least 3 acres) for farming and animals around Monterey and Santa Cruz County. I cannot find any cheap land but my dad was saying that his friend got 5 acres for very cheap because it was a "landlocked" property in Felton. So if you know anyone with some cheap land for sale or if you know of some websites or have land of your own for sale please let me know. If you know of any landlocked properties too let me know. If there is land for rent that is cheaper than buying it that works too. Thanks!:D moreResolved Question: Need help deciding on a document and preparing a registered letter.?
I'm not sure what actions I need to take. I'm not sure if I need a legal document, or if I can just send a notarized registered letter.. Here's the situation: My fiance and I had had built our dream home on our farm (which was passed on to us from his grandparents who were the original owners) and are now forced to sell because had to move from Pennsylvania to Kentucky for my fiances job. We originally had a verbal agreement that we would sell our home to my fiance's sister for the pay off (which is $160,000 less than the appraisal) of the mortgage. They were not to move in until the deal was final. Well it's been 6 months and they haven't tried to get the money to buy our house, and we found out they have been living in our home for the past 6 months!!!! We told them the deal was off because, they aren't making headway and we are paying a mortgage in PA, and KY. Here's where it get confusing; we are going to list our home with a realtor. We have signed the farm over to my fiances parents, but our house is on a 10 acre lot which includes the barn (this lot is still in our name). My mother in law still uses the barn for her horses. We want to send a registered letter to my mother in law that tells her she has two months to get her animals out of our barn ( we have already verbally told her that she has two months but we want it to be recorded legally). We had and idea that it should be a notarized letter that we send through registered mail, but is a letter we type on our home computer sufficient? Would it be foolish to not have it written by an attorney? We just want to be sure we protect ourselves because they have been taking full advantage of us. moreResolved Question: How to get a papaya farm Newbie badge in "location"?

20 November 1719 – Evening On the opposite side of the war, they were sat in a tremendously decorated drawing room lined with frescoes and carpeted in fine rugs. They were sipping their wines and looking into the fire crackling in the fireplace, passing comments between them. All except one man; this man: a thinly-shaped, sour-faced man with shaggy hair and a black goatee. He refused to take wine. “It’s a fine brand, from the Italian Riviera. Not as good as our own Elysian concocts, I admit, but has its merits.” “I refuse to drink that stuff.” “Why not, Julius. Is it wrong to be merry?” “It is not the time to be merry, Courat,” he replied, getting out of his chair to take out of his briefcase a bottle of scotch. “Wine is for peace, scotch for times of war. It is because of this that the Italians keep suing for peace and the Scots keep calling for war.” The assembly laughed. “But victory is ours, surely,” said Courat. “Can’t we drink to that?” “You can. You would be toasting a thing non-existent, a fanciful idea which floats in your imagination.” “Julius,” said another, pretending to embrace the room with his arms, “this is victory. I see it as I walk in these palaces. I can smell it in the roses. I can taste it in the wine.” “Then keep tasting, Dominicus,” said Julius, “for your mind is clotted with wine and you cannot distinguish false from fact.” Another wave of laughter emerged. “Jest comes easy to you this evening,” said Dominicus. “Perhaps the incorruptible Julius is as influenced by liquor as we are by wine.” “Does liquor give for fine humour then, Dominicus?” said Courat with a smile. “No, Courat. Wine makes you laugh to anything,” said Julius before Dominicus could answer. “So the fault is in us?” “The fault is in that bottle,” said Julius, pointing straight to the Italian beverage as he sat back down with a glass in his hand. “The King was not dethroned because the country was in turmoil. He was dethroned because he was too drunk to fix it.” “But that’s all history, Julius,” said a man who had been listening from the window. “The King is dead. We killed him. The realm belongs to us now.” “The people, Frederberg, not us,” said Julius impatiently. “I dislike it when you forget the people.” A moment of awkwardness followed this remark until Courat broke the tension. “Why do you not think the revolution was a success?” Julius took his time, appearing to ponder. “Perhaps he fears the Prince?” said Dominicus. “He is a danger,” said Julius, gently nodding his head. “The people could go over to him at any moment.” “The people hate monarchy,” said Frederberg. “Not a week has passed since they lynched the rotten bastard from the Dungeon towers.” “Oh, they hated that king, yes. But the Prince?” Julius got up and began meandering around the room. The assembly watched him think. “Public memory is short and shaky – very much dependent on the public purse; if the Prince promises them riches in return for favours, he will have bought their hearts.” “But he has no riches! We currently hold the positions of power, so we can pull the strings,” said Frederberg. “He has no position, but he has a claim to our positions. When his forefathers were reigning and bathing in glory, our ancestors were nibbling sawdust and serving like animals on farms! The people never forget this. We live in a world of a privileged few. This revolution is trying to break that tradition – restore the primordial equality of mankind.” “And we have succeeded!” “No, Courat. Success is not conquering thrones but conquering minds. Go tomorrow to the marketplace and observe. Ask any person for their friendship and see how they respond. ‘Who is your father?’ they will ask. ‘To which tribe do you belong? Which god do you worship?’ This revolution has failed to change the most important section of society: its people. Our government is new and our leaders are new, but what will it matter if we are still struggling in the same old squalor. Change will not arise anywhere until its people begin changing themselves. Take these words as gospel, gentlemen, and recite them regularly: the revolution has not ended; it has only just begun.” ------ Your constructive comments appreciated; your encouragements even more. Please forgive typos and small grammatical errors (if there is such a thing as a small grammatical error!) moreResolved Question: What do you think of this "Of Mice And Men" essay?
ok so i was assigned to write ana essay highlighting the theme and what i got out of the book. what do you think? any changes i sohlud make to it? :) Of mice and men: The impossibility of “The American Dream” “‘You’re nuts,’ Crooks was scornful. ‘I seen hundreds of men come by on the road an’ on the ranches, with their bindles on their back an’ that same damn thing in their heads. Hundreds of them. They come, an’ they go they quit an’ go on; an’ every damn one of ‘em’s got a little piece of land in his head. And never a god damn one of them gets it.’” (74) Of Mice and Men is a story about two men named Lennie and George. Lennie, who is a mentally challenged, brawny guy but has a big heart, is always getting into some sort of trouble. It seems as though he can never do anything right. Lennie likes touching things that are soft; he has an obsession with petting animals and touching soft surfaces. The problem with this is he always ends up killing whatever he touches. George is sharp, witty, and smart, and he’s always telling Lennie what to do and what not to do. He gets annoyed when Lennie does not do what he says, or forgets stuff that George has told him to remember. When Lennie messes up their positions at their previous job, George and Lennie have a plan to get new jobs, work until they make enough to buy farm land, then to go live off their own land. All they want to do is to buy their property so they can sustain themselves. Many events happen in the book that changes the characters throughout their journey, and in the end, one terrible fate is caused by Lennie’s habit of messing things up, and the sheer fact that this dream is nothing more than what it is; a dream. While reading this book, the one thing that really stands out to me is how much the “American Dream” is mentioned. Not directly, but through the characters in the book. The message that Steinbeck is trying to convey is that dreams, in most cases, never actually happen. I would say one of the big themes of this story is the impossibility of the American dream. I think this book stresses the idea of the perfect financial life. To me, this book shows that American dream, and how impossible it really is. This book, which was made in the time period of the great depression, talks about the dream: The American dream. During this story, George and Lennie have this dream to live off their own land. Every American has a version of this dream during this time period. During this time, money was tight and many people were unemployed. Everyone has some sort of dream. Even Curley’s wife wonders what her life might have been like if she had fulfilled her acting career instead of marrying someone she was never truly happy with. This possibility of a good life has a gravitational pull to everyone around them; Candy, who is an aging old fellow that lost his hand in an accident, when he heard about George and Lennie’s crazy plan, asks to join them in an attempt to seal his own fate, because he is afraid of what might happen to him if others think he has lived out his usefulness. He even offers his life savings to help them buy the land quicker. Crooks, who is a lonely, sharp-witted black stable-hand, doesn’t believe this nonsense as he has seen it happen before. Even though he has his doubts, and he has witnessed countless men fall under the same stupid spell, he still cannot help but ask Lennie if he can have a patch of garden to hoe in their land. While reading this book, the one thing that really stood out to me was how much everyone in the story wanted this dream or some version of their own dream. Overall, this book shows that no matter how hard you try, the perfect financial situation is unachievable. Their journey, which awakens George to the impossibility of their dream, sadly proves that the bitter Crooks is right: such freedom is not to be found in this world. moreResolved Question: Are there any fowl rescue organizations in DFW, tx?

My mom and dad tell me I HAVE to drink milk, but I don't really like it, so I mostly eat eggs. I still use milk though. Anyways, I feel bad that I might be eating those eggs and drinking that milk from an animal that has suffered. I've been told that "farms" that produce organic milk treat the animals better, but to my understanding organic only means that the animals were fed no hormones or chemicals (therefore they're still probably milked in factories under horrible conditions, right?). I am new to the horse world, I have always loved them but it's never been practical for me to be involved with them until recently. ( They really are magnificent animals! :D ) I went to Fleet Farm to purchase my riding helmet, and I noticed (at the store I was at, anyway) they had a rather large selection of many things 'horse'. They had lead ropes, saddles and all kinds of tack, medicine, fly masks, the list goes on. Because I am not aware of what is considered top-of-the-line quality brands and what to avoid, I am not sure if Fleet Farm is a good place to buy horse related items. I do not plan on having to buy any of this anytime soon of course, but was just curious if people shop there frequently and if it is a reliable place to go. Thank you for any answers! moreResolved Question: How can I find/buy beef and pork from animals that were raised humanely?
Over the last year and a half I have been intentionally shaping myself into a better and more moral person. This not only includes how I treat people but how I treat all living things. This being the case, I essentially can't allow myself to eat any meat that wasn't humanely raised. I don't believe it's wrong for one animal (including humans) to kill another to eat it, but I do believe it's wrong to torture and mutilate it beforehand - e.g. debeaking and the way veal is treated. This is pretty new to me, as I am pretty jaded and not much of a bleeding heart. Culturally I feel pretty uncomfortable with being "vegetarian." Still, I believe a man has to be square with himself and his ideas of right and wrong. I have already located a place to buy chickens that were humanely raised (unfortunately, "free-range" is often pretty barbaric) so that's no problem. It's difficult to be cruel to a fish in any way they can comprehend so that's no problem either. However, I can't seem to figure out a standard for beef and pork. Halal and kashrut (kosher) laws don't include provisions on how the animals are raised (please observant Muslims and Jews correct me if this is wrong) so I can't use those as a bearing. I think if a cow is allowed to feed in a pasture on grass and then slaughtered that is pretty humane, and if a pig is allowed to mill around as it normally would that is also humane. Is there a way to source meat and see how the farms operate or something? Any advice would be helpful. However I am not going to be a strict vegetarian so don't tell me that all meat is cruel. I also am not going to ignore my moral compass so don't tell me "you're a fag go eat a hamburger." I've already decided my beliefs. I'm looking for help to enforce them, not to be converted to something totally different. I thank anybody for their advice (While my current address is Illinois, I will be living in Grand Rapids Michigan by the end of the week, if the location is relevant) moreResolved Question: What kind of dog should I get?
I'll try to give you as much information as I can, to be specific. Please, only answer if you really know what you're talking about. Not trying to sound rude... just honest. Okay, I am sixteen years old, and my dog of eight years died last week. He was a mutt, and a great one, at that. Still, we are going to get another dog- because he provided us with a feeling of safety. Buddy was a Black lab, brittany spaniel, pit bull cross. A purebred pound puppy. ;) His head came up to my knee (and I'm tall), and that was probably the only thing we would have changed about him. He was kind of little. You see, we live on a forty-acre farm, and there are a lot of stray dogs that roam by. They normally weren't agressive, but we were terrified that he would be attacked one day. We also have a lot of coyotes roaming around, but they generally left him alone. I would like a larger dog, that is capable of protecting us. (We've had robberies in the neighborhood before...) It would be an all time outdoor dog, but on very hot or cold days the dog would have access to my dad's machine shed office. (which has air conditioning, and is heated in the winter) A dog that will get along with other animals is a must. We have two horses, a Shetland pony, and two miniature horses... two stray barn cats that were dumped at our house, and a rabbit that we rescued. (Though the rabbit is in a large cage- out of reach) Another thing to note, is that my little sister has down-sydrome, which is a form of mental retardation. She is fourteen though, and has been with animals all her life. She wouldn't do anything like pull on the dog's ears, or anything like that... but we want a dog that will be gentle with her. Also, I would like an intelligent dog, capable of being trained with relative ease. I showed my previous dog in 4-H, in obediance, agility, etc. I would love to be able to continue that with our next dog. This means I have some experience with training. Lastly, the front of our yard- the part exposed to the highway, is fenced off, so the dog would be safe from traffic. The dog would have plenty of room to run, and I'd take it with me in my truck to go to town for long jog/walks. So, excercise is not an issue. Neither is shedding- completely outdoor dog, remember? I was sort of thinking a German Shepherd, but I hear they have a tendency to bite. Any suggestions? (PS- I won't be buying a purebreed. I'll be searching the animal shelters around my hometown for a dog that is MOSTLY the type of breed you would suggest.) Thanks~ moreResolved Question: Would this be illegal?
I want to invent or at least buy a mini human farm. You know like in Spy Kids 2 with the mini zoo animals? Except the humans on the farm would be genetically engineered and have lower intelligence. I am a true animal lover. I absolutely detest the idea of fur farms, slaughter houses, and people who are just plain cruel to animals. However, I do love the look of fur, the feel of it, and I think that it really looks good on most people. However, I do not think that it is worth what those poor animals go through at all. I am a vegetarian and am a true animal rights supporter, but I really have conflicting opinions of fur. Questions : What is your opinion on fur wearing? Do you ever wear real fur? Where can you buy really good faux fur that looks exactly like real fur? Any additional comments or opinions are greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Need advice on land uses in Ontario, Canada?

Who is going to sponsor the research on how to save human race now? We am studying ill effects of Genetically Modified (GM) Plants on Humans, Animals and Environment. We have discovered GM plants are killing animals on large scale. But not government agency is willing to accept or even notice it. Now from here with out any govt /private /charity support how would we do this. If we do it with other work for my subsistence then I do not get time for the research. He said that animals were dying or coming under the toxic grip of BT Cotton allergy and possibly poisoning. He said, “Evidence of presence of Hydrogen Cranide (HCN) have come from government laboratories in the state of Andhra Pradesh State (India), where thousands of sheep perished after feeding on BT Cotton some years back.” Dr Kaura said that buffaloes perish over many months compare to sheep. “Ill effects of BT Cotton include difficulty in conceiving properly, giving birth to significantly smaller sized offsprings, protrusion of uterus, allergy symptoms on skin, reduction in milk (10% in one week in some cases), dysfunction of teats, and others,” he said. “The taste of the milk from buffaloes who are fed BT Cotton, has changed. So, many people have stopped taking milk or milk products.” Dr Kaura said he was worried ‘about people, especially children who work at BT Cotton farms, as many are experiencing allergy symptoms such as boils, itching, redness, white patches, and others. He warned that if the government did not stop BT Cotton from being fed to animals, the small and marginal farmer economy which is basically driven by milk, would soon be shattered.Dear Harmony19, please note that bt cotton has been found to kill animals by government in india and govt lab. in India has found prensence of hydrogen cyanide. I bought a yearling filly a little over a week ago (7/11/10), she not registered so I'm having trouble naming her. The previous owners called her "Candy Kiss", however she doesn't even twitch an ear when I call her. Plus my name is Mandi and Candy is just a little to close sounding. Ok a little about the filly. She is a Mahogany Bay; mane, tail, legs are black and her coat is a dark brown with black in it. She is very outgoing, playful, calm, curious, very gentle and friendly. She allows my 2 year old to walk under her, lead her around and sit on her back. Yes, for a yearling she is amazing. I just need help with a name. I've never had problems naming any animals before, as I was raised on a farm. Please help!!Her mothers not registered and her name is "Sugar". The sire is registered under "Starbert Champ Mitch", not sure what they call him. Thanks everyone for your wonderful names. We have decided to name her Brooke! moreResolved Question: What do you think about wearing animal fur?
Do you buy clothes that have animal fur? If you do, why? And what do you think about killing seals and rabbits, etc just for their fur? I personally think its horrible. I've seen videos of Chinese fur farms (i'm not racist, i'm chinese myself) where the animals are in cages so small they cant even move, let alone stand up. Then, they just take the animals out and hold them down and beat them with a crowbar or a piece of metal. Then once the animals are too weak to do anything they just skin them alive. Same for the baby seals, leaving their dead bodies to rot. So do you own fur? Will you ever buy fur? and do you think that humans will ever stop doing cruel things to animals that earn them money?well if cows are killed for meat anyway, wouldn't it make more sense to utilise all of its organs? including leather? I'm opposed to both, but since it is happening, i suppose it's better to use the leather of an already dead animal than to chuck it out to waste. although killing animals like seals just for their fur is stupid and pointless. moreResolved Question: Should I become a vegan?
I have been a vegetarian for a few months now. Just recently I started to look into factory farming more and I realized how badly they treat animals. By eating eggs and dairy I am still supporting the meat industry. The way they treat the hens and the dairy cows and their calves makes me sick. I feel guilty eating those things but I don't know how to find food that is vegan! Should I just try and cut back on dairy and eggs or should I really commit? If you are vegan, where do you shop? What do you buy? What are some recipes that you like? moreResolved Question: How do you know when you buy meat whether it has been allowed to graze or farmed in a factory?
I drive past fields of cows with plenty of room to graze, yet I hear about some animal being farmed in cramped, disease ridden pens. I would like to avoid meat that is farmed this way, how would I go about this? moreResolved Question: How do I make sure that the meat I buy comes from a farm where the animal was properly treated?
I saw some videos on youtube of slaughter and living conditions of animals and was disgusted. If I bred or killed an animal this is not how I would do it. This is the kind of meat I want to buy, 1. The animal is allowed to have a free and natural life until slaughter, with access to enough space, water, food, air, social behavior and natural surroundings. (covered with vegetation?) 2. The animal does not know it's going to get killed until the last possible moment (let's say the last five seconds). It is treated well until that moment. 3. The animal is killed instantly. Or if blood needs to be drained out before death, it is made unconscious first and then drained of blood and killed before regaining consciousness. Are there any standards that certify whether a particular meat product is made this way? I do weight lifting, and need a lot of protein. If I can find some other protein source I would stay away from meat altogether. moreResolved Question: what are some stores that have family owned farm suppliers?
im a vegetarian but i want to buy eggs milk and other things like that, that are animal friendly (no big industry stuff) i was raised on a farm and i know that most off the time family owned farms are nice to the animals....what stores have family owned farm suppliers? moreResolved Question: Vegetarian/Vegan logic questions: Opinions?
I'm currently mostly vegan - I rarely, but do sometimes, eat products that contain dairy or egg - and first became a vegetarian last December. I became a vegetarian because I love animals and don't want to contribute to their suffering. I did a lot of research and tried it out before definitively making the switch, and was pretty sure of my decision...for a while. These are just some of the things that have been going through my head lately, many of which are personal issues with vegetarianism/veganism and I'd appreciate some input. (Sorry in advance for the length.) The problem I'm having now is with the logic behind vegetarianism/veganism. I do not support the cruel way many animals are treated in the food industry, the way they're treated like products and not living beings. However, I don't necessarily think it's wrong for people to eat meat/keep animals for other food products like milk or eggs, in general. Is it? I know a family that keeps chickens for both eggs and meat, and those chickens live very good lives up until the end. The members of this family are animal-lovers. I don't see what they do as wrong. I definitely don't see people who are less well-off, for instance, in poorer countries, as doing wrong when they keep animals or hunt for food. Do you think it is wrong for people to use animals/animal products for food when the animals have not been treated cruelly? When it comes to dietary needs, while it is possible to get adequate nutrition from a carefully-planned vegan diet, it is not easy. Supplements in one form or another are basically required, and the vegan has to pay much closer attention to their diet than an omnivore just to ensure they're meeting basic needs (the omnivore has to watch out for greatly exceeding needs, of course). It seems like food should not occupy someone's thoughts so greatly - I often worry about meeting this or that nutritional requirement and it seems unhealthy to have to monitor my diet so closely. The vegan diet (and vegetarian, to a lesser degree) is also difficult for someone like me who grew up with a standard omnivorous diet. My family's traditional foods almost always contain meat or dairy, and these are foods I enjoyed. It's a struggle sometimes to abstain from these foods, even though I know they're not the healthiest; it's the concern for the animals that ultimately keeps me from giving in, but sometimes even then it's difficult. So, while my desire for these foods has mostly gone away, it sometimes feels like I'm depriving myself, and this also doesn't seem healthy. I recently came across a website that asked the question, "Is a diet 'ideal' if it's unfeasible for many people?" The vegan diet especially, but even the vegetarian diet, seems to be unfeasible for most of the population. But isn't that the basis of vegetarian/vegan thinking - that everyone should adopt this diet? On a separate note, what are vegans' opinions on the use of insects as pest-control agents in organic farming? Since vegans are opposed to eating honey because getting the honey involves exploiting bees, I wonder if they would also consider this pest-control use of insects exploitative since insects are bred and bought by growers for this purpose? (And I'm sure there are casualties along the way.) Also, I've read in a few books advocating the vegan diet about how if everyone adopted a vegan diet, there would be enough food to feed the world. But, on another website, someone made the claim that there is already a food surplus in the world today and that political barriers account for the food inequalities in the world - not lack of supply. And these political barriers would not be erased by everyone turning vegan. How true/untrue are these claims? So, these are some of my concerns... Any thoughts? Thanks for the responses so far... But, I'm fully aware of all the standard facts/info people give on factory farming, and the meat industry. I'm looking for deeper insights. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Thinking about raising rabbits?

Why isn't this being published?
I asked a similar YA question a while back and several MD's responded claiming that we're not doing anything new to our food today that we haven't been doing for thousands of years through selective breeding. Well...I recently found out that is absolutely false. Genetic Selection and Genetic Engineering are two completely different things. One we have been doing since man started farming thousands of years ago, and the other one is brand new, just a couple years old. So tell me if you think the following are the same: 1.) Grow crops and take the seeds only from the plants that have more of the attributes you want (size, color, vitamins, etc). After doing this for several generations you can get a higher yield and better quality crops. OR 2.) Take genes from various species of plants and animals, put them into gene guns, and blast millions of genes into a plate of millions of cells, and then clone the result into a plant. (This can cause hundreds or thousands of mutations up and down the DNA chain. Genes can be switched off, switched on permanently, or change their levels of expression – at random.) Anyone who has ever taken a genetics course in college knows that DNA being shot out of a gun could potentially damage the DNA. Also, fundamental to the discipline is knowledge that just adding a gene to an organism can cause all kinds of things to go wrong - including turning on genes that were previously silent as well as turning others off that were beneficial. There's a famous story about a boy raised in a plastic bubble because of having no immune system. All scientists had to do was change one tiny piece of DNA and then the children with this condition could lead a normal life. They tried this on 10 children and it worked! Unfortunately, because they messed with that little piece of DNA a neighboring gene that was previously silent got turned on. That gene caused all of the boys to develop Leukemia, and they died. This gives us a fresh perspective on how little science knows about how to safely manipulate DNA. They simply can't yet, that's why they put a moratorium on genetic therapy for humans. So how does this apply to messing with plants DNA? Simple, we eat plants, like corn, and when that plant has an altered genome, it's not going to produce the same stuff as regular corn. Even if the resulting plant LOOKED normal it doesn't mean all of its bionutrients are the same. In fact, some of those nutrients could harm you. Luckily, we are safe in knowing there is no conflict of interest in the scientific studies that have been done to test whether GMO foods are safe. That is, if you believe multi-billion dollar corporations like Monsanto funding their own studies concerning the safety of their own products - putting at stake the company's bottom line if a product is unsafe - presents no conflict of interest in your mind. The CEO of Monsanto has promised us their GMO crops are absolutely safe. So you can feel safe now. Nevermind the fact that allergic reactions to food and a whole host of other conditions and diseases have greatly increased in the last 10 years or so. That must be from someting else I guess. Unfortunately you won't be able to find out because the lobbying forces of the industry caused the FDA to decide that foods don't need to be labeled as GMO, so you won't be able to know where your disease is coming from. But hey, at least we can buy stock in Monsanto safely right? They aren't going to be successfully sued. Hopefully the stock price goes up to keep up with people's medical bills though right? To reiterate, over thousands of years human's bodies have co-adapted to the adaptations in corn. Now, we're making whole new organisms that produce molecules which is anybody's guess as to what those molecules do in the human body. The director of a large biotech firm came and spoke to an audience at my university. He said "No one knows where a foreign molecule of a drug (or any type of foreign unatural molecule) goes in the body - what that molecule binds to, what cell signal it creates, what cell signal gets blocked, and on which cells it does it to. All we can do in the industry is find out if it treats a certain symptom. We have no idea what it does in the rest of the body." That should apply to GMO food as well, as they are new unnatural proteins that didn't have the benefit of millions of years of evolution. All we can do is animal and human testing. Mice fed GMO corn developed problems, but apparently those studies were re-done by *someone* and now the studies show GMO food is safe. You can all rest easy now that Monsanto and the heavily lobbyied FDA have declared GMO foods are safe. Also rest easy by the fact that members of the Obama's Presidential Cabinet that create food policies are former Monsanto executives. How convenient.
