Resolved Question: Troubleshoot Craftsman garage door opener?
We replaced the sensors and wires because we thought that was causing the openers not to work. (The light would blink 10 times). Now when we try to oepn or close the door it completley turns the unit off for a minute or two and then it comes back on. I try to use the openers again and the same thing happens each time. What could be the problem?

My garage door sensors are "Moore-O-Matic (which they don't make anymore) my garage door will go up fine, but it will not go down, it begins to, but then stops as if something is in the way. Nothing is in the way and there are no lights on either of the sensors, which leads me to believe they aren't working. But I'm wondering how I can determine if it's a wiring problem or if it's the actual sensors that are bad.
Can anyone give me some tips for troubleshooting my issue??
Also, can they be replaced with a different brand, would I need to do anything special to do this?
Thanks in advance!
moreResolved Question: Help troubleshooting my Sears 1/2hp Garage Door Opener?
I have a Sears 1/2HP garage door opener. Someone in my family locked the garage door. I did not know this and tried to open the door using the wired pad inside the garage. The opener worked but bowed the track that holds the chain. I hit the button again and it went back down. The track when back to its normal shape. I then unlocked the door. When I hit the button this time, the door opened fully. Since this time, the garage door opener will not operate. The front light comes on and the back light blinks but the motor does not run at all. No noises come from the opener.
Is there an overload switch or something that could be tripped that is causing this?
I have checked the manuals and found nothing.
I have gone into Sears and they were not able to help.
I called the customer service (a term I use loosely) and they were completely useless....I am not even sure they were in the United States.
Any ideas on what could get this running again?
Thanks in advance.
moreVoting Question: how do i fix the safety light sensors on a genie garage door opener?
ok, so i go to my grandmas today to mow. i open the garage door, mow, then when i go to close it, it goes 2 inches then stops. its acting like there is something blocking the safety sensors. i looked once and they were working fine, the led lights were lit and i moved my hand there and it blinked like normal. i went back while i was still troubleshooting and both the red and the green (other side) were out. what i ended up doing was unhooking the door, closing it, then hooking it back up so noone can break in. is there any way to disable these or fix the problem? i didnt see any problems with the visible part of the wire. alot of it is behind drywall though, and im not in the mood to fish more through. thanks alot!well, yeah if you trip it it goes back up. i guess i forgot to mention that
moreResolved Question: problem with BMW remote?
Have a '08 650i that keeps opening the windows/moonroof on its own during the night. Gone thru the idrive and owners manual to troubleshoot but found nothing of any use. No one else has access to my remotes and I've replaced the remote batteries w/ no luck. Only happens in my garage and I've ruled out any electrical interference as I only have the garage door opener and standard electrical outlets in there. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
moreResolved Question: Garage door opener will not open.?
My garage door opener (Genie) is about 4-5 years old. It will CLOSE using the motor, but will not attempt to open. When I press the wall button to close, then press it again to stop, it should go UP when I press it a third time; it doesn't. It continues to close. The eyes line up, and my transmitters make no difference in the way it acts. I have read everything on the Genie troubleshooting page, but none of that matches what is happening with my opener. What is wrong with it?

moreResolved Question: 1999 Sable. Won't turn on. Help!?
I thought the battery died. Was working fine yesterday. When I first tried it out, the engine had trouble turning over and the clock restarted at 12. I thought for sure the battery had gone dead as one of my door sensors doesn't register all the time and can end up leaving lights on. Tried charging with one of those cigarette battery recharger deals and no charge built up. When I tried again it made no noise when trying to turn engine (sometimes just makes clicking noise under the steering column) and all the electronics, keyless entry, power windows/seats, radio, clock didn't work.
Someone came by to jump my car and it turned over. Left it running 45 minutes and when I went to restart it, same deal -- no attempt to turn over, weird clicking, nothing works.
Can anyone troubleshoot? Is this a fuse, battery, starter, wiring issue? Want to have a sense of whether I should be taking it to AAP/Autozone, a local garage or a scrapyard.
moreVoting Question: Garage door transmitter is not sending pulses.?

moreResolved Question: The lights on my Blue Max garage door opener stay on all the time. How do I fix this problem? Thanks! Bill?
The opener is about 13 to 15 or more years old and still works fine except for this recent situation where the lights on the opener stay on all the time instead of going out a few minutes after the opener has been used. The owner's manual does not mention this problem in the troubleshooting section, so I'm turning to the helpful folks out there for suggestions. Thanks! Bill
moreVoting Question: Are Garage Door Remotes Interchangeable?
Hey y'all- I have a question-
I have a Chamberlain garage door opener in my new home...I'm assuming the previous owners took the remote controls with them when they moved out; but I might be in luck as I have a garage door opener from my previous home. I was wondering- do I HAVE to have an actual Chamberlain opener or will any garage door opener remote work ?
I tried to program the opener to a Lift-Master remote that I happened to have laying around, but to no avail. I replaced the battery in hopes that was the problem, but no success yet.
My question is- am I wasting my time trying to troubleshoot why it won't work since it's the wrong frequency (assuming it is) ? Do I HAVE to buy an actual Chamberlain remote or am I missing something in the programming with this other remote ?
...anyone know if a Lift-Master remote broadcasts the right frequency that the opener will recognize ? Or do I need to stop being cheap and break down & buy the proper remote ?
Thanks for any help and y'all have a blessed evening....

moreResolved Question: Craftsman garage door opener troubleshooting tips?
I just installed a new gear & sprocket assembly since the old drive gear was totally chewed up. The problem I'm having is that when I run the opener, the sprocket will make a clockwise cycle but will immediately do a counter-clockwise cycle in the same distance. I've done it without the chain and with the chain and it's the exact same thing either way. That is what happened initially before I changed the gear & sprocket assembly; the door was just opened 3/4 of the way and then wouldn't move at all (because of the chewed up drive gear). Now with the chain attached to the sprocket, the door moves a few inches up and then back down to where it started from. Nothing is obstructing the sensors because the lights don't blink when this happens and when I deliberately stepped into the sensor, the lights do blink. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Not sure how to answer to the replies I receive on this, but firstly thank you to all that have replied.
I tried adjusting the force and amount of travel but nothing happens. When I replaced the old drive gear, I also replaced the worm gear and all associated parts (bearings, etc.). I didn’t know until afterward that they sell just that part that I needed; instead I bought the whole assembly and assumed I had to change it all. Nothing was broken or stripped anywhere throughout. All wires were fine & plugged back into their proper spots. After the repair, the door is moving whereas it wasn’t before; it's stuck in the same position that it broke in. It will move up a few inches & back down to where it was, making the overall movement zero. This will happen w/o the chain attached as well. Obviously the door won't move since it's not attached at that point, but the sprocket will go clckwse 1 turn & then immediately counter clckwse.
moreResolved Question: Help with Stanley garage door?
This is the story. I was trying to use a new remote for my Stanley (Quiet Glide) garage door opener cause I couldn't find my old remote. I was pressing different buttons behind the opener and accidentally messed up the functions. Now I am stuck with an open garage door and cannot close it. When I try to close it, it will only go down about 3 inches and then opens back up.
Is there anyone that knows how to override or troubleshoot this. Or has anyone ever had any experience with this problem. Please let me know how I can fix it, thanks.

Im 32, BA in Elementary Education, minor in music. Parttime NYC school teacher. PLaying piano since age 5. Produced for some hop hop celebrities in the early 2000's.
I live with parents and dont have much money , obviously. lol
Now i want to open up a music school and teach kids piano . I want to teach kids music productions. Have a nice studio in the garagee to teach piano and more. I was thinking of teaching Handicapped and retarded students also. IF i do get married and have kids one day in the future i would like to put the studio in a garage and live next door. I would put a shingle sign on the lawn, just a small one saying " Music conservatory".
My questions are.
1. Do you think i can support my wife and kids doing this if i do have them in the future.
2. Would this be good even thought the economy is bad and people are loosing jobs. Will they have money for lessons. I though because most public schools are shutting down music programs so there WOULD be a need for piano lessons more now then ever and they would come to me.
3. How much should i charge. And how long should the lesson be.
4. Why is my female friend telling me that this is a bad idea and making fun of me that i am a dreamer and this is not a real job and i will be broke.
5 .Should i get a Masters degree in music? what field of music? Seems like you cant do that much with it lol no offense
PLease share your knowledge and answer all and give me all the advise possible
thanks

moreVoting Question: Subwoofer Amp Problems?
Just installed a subwoofer AMP model Kenwood PS-200 that I had in my garage for a couple years. It was working when I took it out of my old car. I have an 00 Explorer with a hideaway Subwoofer box and Orion 10" Subwoofer. The RED power light comes on when I turn the ignition and the Subwoofer POPS one time and then really doesnt do anything at all. At really low volume it is either getting vibration from the in-door speakers or it is getting a little bit of power to it, cant hear it at all though. It also POPS (full excursion) at the beginning of each track on the CD but doesnt really do anything else. Anyone have suggestions and what I should do to troubleshoot this?

moreResolved Question: My craftsman 6hp 33gal compressor is tripping breakers, why?
I picked this up cheap, and Im trying to troubleshoot.
It will turn on for a second, then trip the breaker. Or, I plugged in to where the garage door opener is plugged, and it turned on for a second, then stopped spinning and just heated the cord up.
I got a new start capacitor for it, but the old has a 220V on it. It appears to be the original Mallory, but this is supposed be a 120v 15 amp motor. Does this mean it was changed to 220? It still has a standard 120 plug, but a really thick cable. The motor itself says 120V on it.
What should I troubleshoot next? The centrifugal switch looks ok, it just never gets up to speed enough to open it. it was tripping a 15amp breaker, then I plugged it into the garage door openers plug and it didn't trip the breaker on that, I am assuming it is 20ampThis also has a run capacitor on it, and I haven't replaced that yet.
I haven't check how many amps it pulling yet-cause Im not sure how to do it. I do have a multimeter thoughElectrical Inspector,
I have heard the old compressors were notoriously overrated horsepower wise, so that 6hp was most likely wishful thinking on sears' part. The motor is an ao smith. It doesn't have a hp figure (that space is left blank). It does say 120 I believe. and I'll check to see if it does say dual mode on it.
ThanksThis isn't the actual one, but here is a pic of the same model

The rear passenger windows on my 2001 Chevy Suburban (50,000 miles - always garaged) do not operate either up or down. They are currently in the up (closed) position, so there is no real hurry to get this fixed, but annoying that they do not work. They do not operate with either the rear door switches or the front, driver switch. The problem was intermitant, but seems to have become permanent for a while now. I suspect that there is a loose connection in the wiring harness in the driver door, but do not know how to remove the switches in order to troubleshoot. Are there any other suggestions? I went to open the garage door when it was closed from the pad and the lights blinked and popped so I thought I just blew the bulbs. Well, I replaced the bulbs but nothing happens when I hit the pad to try and make the door go up. I've also hit the 'learn' button but nothing. The unit has power so I'm not sure what is wrong. I unplugged it and then used the learn button again but same result, nothing. Also when I push the light button on the pad, I hear the click for the lights but nothing happens. The same thing happens when I push the open on the pad and I hear the click sound again. This one isn't in the manual so I'm not sure what to do.
Ideas?Looking at the manual, I don't see any breakers to reset other than the learn button.
I'll try unhooking the door and doing it manually but I doubt that will help. The fact that the lights don't come on either when I hit the light button leads me to believe the board has failed.

I have 1/2 HP screw drive garage door opener. I like this model because it has a SAFE-T beam feature that stops the door if a child is under the door while the opener is closing down.
Now, the problem is that when I use the control by the wall, I can close it but when I use the remote control, I had to press it so many times before the door closes, if at all. 95% of the time, the door just starts to close and then springs back up, even if there is no object obstructing the laser beam at the bottom. I have cleaned the glass of the "eye", replaced the battery for the control with a new, fresh one, replaced the coil springs and still no luck. I am resigned to getting out of my truck each time and use the wall control and lower the door to a point where I can I can slip right thru and use the remote to close the door completely. In short, I have to use both the wall control and remote control to open and close my garage door.
Any suggestions? Help!
