Open Question: garage my Transmission. Not Getting What they agreed to. What can i do?

I have a 98 honda civic LX 4 door. My brother gave me this car for free a few months ago . It Has been going great since. It only has Approx. 181000 km on it and no accidents. I Went to MR.Lube where I usually go when I get my Oiled changed. They Offer other Services like Cleaning the Gas line and stuff like that. My Brother always used to bring this car there and there never were any problems. So Naturally I brought my car back there because they had a good reference. I Asked them to do the "Fuel System Cleaning" and the "Transmission Service"(Costs are 99.99$ and 69.99 Respectively). Everything was done accordingly until the end of the services. But as i got out of the Garage . My transmission fluid was leaking so they told me to come back in. After 5 minutes of me waiting in my car. They finally informed me that they had forgotten a wrench on the caution line around the pit and that it cracked my transmission when i got up onto the Tracks. They admitted it was 100% their fault and agreed to get it fixed at their expense. and that they would also rent me a car till i had my car back after repairs. THE PROBLEM Being on a saturday when this happened (jul17th 2010) naturally a lot of car rentals were not open. But He found one budget to have an available car for July 18th at noon. I agreed to wait till then for the car. so he told me . "call them tomorrow and they will rent you a car at my expenses." So i called today and the minimum age for car rental is 21 and i am 20. so they could not rent me the car. So i called The manager at MR. Lube And i cannot reach him since hes gone on a fishing trip and now im stuck with no car when i really need one to go to work and enjoy my 2 days off but im now stuck at home doing nothing. My Question is: What can i do about this situation. Should i ask for a refund for the service?. Would I Ask for More since they couldn't honor their promises and are doing nothing about it? What Would you guys recommend Doing? more

Resolved Question: Can I not pay rent if a landlord is not repairing something?

I have been in this duplex for almost 4 years, and always been on time with my rent payment. My garage door opener recently stop working. I have contacted them 4 times in 8 days. I have no direct contact with repairmen... only an answering service that "relays" the message to the repairmen. They can do nothing more than to keep sending the messages to the repairmen. When I ask for the repairmen phone number, they say they can only transfer me to their voice mail. So I left a voice mail, but have no response. It seems they are deliberately ignoring me. Do I have the right to withhold my rent payment until they repair the garage door opener? more

Resolved Question: "No good deed goes unpunished"?

I've gotten in the habit of doing little errands for my elderly neighbor. She's sweet, alone in the world, and a little bit mental. I do not want compensation because if I'm out anyway, it's no big deal to pick a prescription up for her or put her library books in the drop box. The problem is that she's gone overboard with her gratitude and I cannot make her stop putting loaves of bread and chocolate candies in my mailbox. The bread usually goes moldy before I get it and the candies...well, it was 95F in the shade yesterday. My mail was full of chocolately goodness. The mold is just disgusting. I have to leave my mailbox hanging open to get the smell out and if it rains, it gets wet inside. A few months ago, I came home to a GIANT 4'X6' stained glass window leaning against my front door. I do not want it. I have no room for it. The window is now in my garage and she keeps asking when I plan to put it in. Installing a stained glass window is a very expensive proposition and not one I even plan to put into action. She won't take it back even though I've told her I do not want it. The last thing she dropped off over here was an extremely heavy butcher block table with a short leg. I have no idea who she presses into service to get these gifts delivered to me. I've tried gentle persuasion, but she truly believes I need bread, chocolate in my mail, and whatever other item she deems appropriate for my house. All suggestions appreciated. I may have to move. more

Resolved Question: could this be my problem?

For two months or so I have not had an efficient broadband service from Virgin cable. New neighbours moved in next door and installed a Sky satellite dish which is about nine feet away from our TV.[it's at the end of his garage next to ours] Now every day I can't get broadband each afternoon and late at night, early morning. Could the satellite dish be interfering with my signal more

Resolved Question: Just moved out of my house and my landlords are screwing us over big time.. Can i get input?

So, Last September i moved into an off campus house. Upon moving into the house it was FILTHY. So many things needed to be repaired throughout the house as well. For the first two months of living there, my roommates and I had to deal with the property manager being there everyday doing repairs which was inconvenient. We asked numerous times for a cleaning service to come but our landlords never got one and they said " we are dentists, you guys are just college students these conditions are live able you guys are just being high maintenance". We ended up giving up and just sucked it up and cleaned the house ourselves. We had a problem with rats throughout the year and after telling the landlord he never got an exterminator and instead just covered up holes in the garage etc. We also found needles in one of the drawers to the bathroom and after telling the property manager all he said was "it's probably from your landlords steroid usage". We never brought this up to the landlords, and just with gloves placed them in a plastic bag. When it came time to move out in may I did the final walk through with the landlords and there were a FEW things they said may come out of the security deposit such as a broken door lock, and a little bit of damage to a stove top, etc. They claimed the house was kept in good condition and there were a little big of stains on the carpeting and that hopefully it would come out with cleaning etc. I just got a letter today with our security deposit back etc. In the letter it claims they have taken from our security deposit : 350 for a cleaning service, 400 for carpet cleaning, 250 for landscaping, etc. No where on the lease says we are responsible for cleaning services after moving out and we never had one when we originally moved in. We have pictures of the conditions of the house when we moved in. Is there anything we can do to get more of our security deposit back? more

Resolved Question: Help troubleshooting my Sears 1/2hp Garage Door Opener?

I have a Sears 1/2HP garage door opener. Someone in my family locked the garage door. I did not know this and tried to open the door using the wired pad inside the garage. The opener worked but bowed the track that holds the chain. I hit the button again and it went back down. The track when back to its normal shape. I then unlocked the door. When I hit the button this time, the door opened fully. Since this time, the garage door opener will not operate. The front light comes on and the back light blinks but the motor does not run at all. No noises come from the opener. Is there an overload switch or something that could be tripped that is causing this? I have checked the manuals and found nothing. I have gone into Sears and they were not able to help. I called the customer service (a term I use loosely) and they were completely useless....I am not even sure they were in the United States. Any ideas on what could get this running again? Thanks in advance. more

Resolved Question: How long do tension springs last on garage doors under normal conditions?

We have a single door and one side is against the wall of the wooden interior [90+ yr old home-detached garage]. The company guy that put our garage door in years ago left a long nail in the wood on the side of the garage which was catching onto the spring halfway and stopping it from stretching 100% over the yrs. Recently the spring snapped right at the nail. The nail catching the spring was not noticeable because the door is so close to the wall on that side. Installers should know what they are doing, It took the service guys 1/2 hr today and charged just under 150.- to replace both springs. They charged 100.- for labor, the rest parts. Was that a fair price for 1/2 hr worth of work? One of the guys said the springs wear out anyways over the years but we have never had a spring snap at other homes we've owned and neither have any friends or relatives we know. We believe it would have lasted many more yrs if the guy had removed that nail when he installed the door. I at least wanted to hear, "Gee, we're sorry he did not remove that nail before installing. He should have see that it was interrupting the spring." Instead they came with an attitude that it was not going to be covered under warranty. I figured we had to pay something, but $100.- for 1/2 hr seems high for labor under the circumstances. Any contractors out there? I don't want to think we got ripped off. more

Resolved Question: Would you trust these people to install your garage door opener?

I bought a new garage door opener from a major retailer and also purchased their installation service for it. I got a call from the installation people to schedule a date and time, and they left a message on my answering machine. Apparently it is some sort of pool table sales and service company. lol Their name is something... something... "Billiards," or whatever. So my question is: What the heck sort of pool table store installs garage door openers? And would you go ahead and allow them to do the installation or would you try and request somebody else to do it? more

Resolved Question: Help! What Should I Do About Him?

My boyfriend and I work for the same company; he is a security officer and I a teacher. Usually the day after school ends, the teachers in our county all gather at this local watering hole for a last hooray. However, this year, they started on the day school ends and instead of one day, they gathered for two days, Thursday and Friday. The problem is that my boyfriend for some reason wanted to go by himself on Thursday and again with me on Friday. We got into a big argument because of that and he ended up not going on Thursday. So come Friday, we had not talk at all about whether we were still going, he got up got dressed and went without me. I was livid so I texted him" good luck with your search, I do hope you find my replacement." and I went to bed. Two hours later, he called the house; I did not answer the phone. He left me a message that he needed me to call him before I could, he had another female friend of ours calling me to tell me that he was ok and to call him. I didn't. He called about six more times and left me a cryptic message that he was drunk and needed me. Knowing fully that my car was in the garage, I replied to his friend’s to tell her to tell him to call another friend with a livery car service for a ride. She then replied that he said no, he wanted to talk to me. Around 11:40pm, he came ringing my bell wanting to open the door to talk to him, when I didn’t; he left me a nasty message that he knew that I never loved him and that I could go fudging myself. Wasn't I right to be mad at him for ditching me? What was so important that he had to go there without me?I cannot understand his reason for not wanting me there, I never stopped him from flirting or even getting other girls numbers because at the end of the day he usually hands them to me or tells me about them. I feel like he had plans to meet someone( one of his exs) there that is the reason why he did not want me to go. more

Resolved Question: Is it worth repairing this imported Subaru Impreza?

Hi there, My bf has a 1995 Subaru Impreza 1.6 LX Automatic, which has been imported... It's just been in for a full service, and the garage said it's been fitted with the wrong radiator, (quote £300+) and one of the shock absorbers is leaking, (also quoted £300+). The service was £170, and it also needs all the brakes doing, as they're down to the bare metal. It's got about 65k on the clock mileage-wise, and he bought it for £200. It's got the WRX body kit on it, and a few key scratches... The driver's side door only locks from the inside cos it's been broken into, and one of the back doors doesn't open at all. Webuyanycar.com have quoted a lousy £95 for it, and I just don't know what to do... Should he repair it, or sell it? Thank you more

Resolved Question: There's a wasp in my kitchen!?

OK, I'm alone in my house. I just went in the kitchen for some food after a shower and there's a wasp the size of my arm in there. I'm completely scared to death of the evil things.. There are 2 doors in my kitchen, one to the hallway and one to the garage, which is locked, the windows are also shut so there's nowhere for it go. Thinking of it, I don't even know how it got in, my dad left for work at 7am, my mom and sister left the house at around 8am.. I've had no breakfast or lunch, so I'm starving and obviously the food is in there with the beast. Is there some kind of service I can call that will come and destroy the wasp so I can get some food? No-one gets home until at least 3:30 and everyone else I know is at work... Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm in the UK if that helps.OK, firstly, LOL. I take it none of you have heard of a phobia?? It's nothing to do with being a man or any of that daft stuff, I'm 20 in 2 weeks, I have tattoos and piercings, pain doesn't bother me, I'm not scared of heights or anything else, just wasps, its a childhood fear that evolved into a phobia, look it up on wikipedia if you're still confused. I've got to go through kitchen to get out the house as it leads into the garage, and that door is locked, in the time it takes me to get the key off the shelf and unlock the door, it could easily come in for the kill, and i'm not gonna try and duel with the thing in such an enclosed space. I might get my snooker cue and see if I can open the door a few inches and turn the gas on above the oven, do wasps breathe? The gas would kill a human in what.. like 30 minutes? So a wasp should be out in like 10..... more

Resolved Question: Will Homeowners Insurance and / or city give me trouble if I buy an 55 yr old home with following?

60 amp service meter with 100 amp main breaker (window airconditioner and gas boilter heat) No fire doors between garage and house and attic stair is open with no wall. Approx. how much to budget for these repairs? I am buying short sale "as is". Will someone inspect me? I already have an insurance quote of$450./yr. This neighborhood is old and most of the houses are at least 50 years old. There are Victorian and Farm homes all around my little ranch home. I want to be safe. I am single and use very little power since I work and go to school. My garage will usually be empty and I do no work or barbecuing in it. more

Resolved Question: Can you help me understand how hard these problems are to fix from my home inspection?

Meter and wires outside appear to be rated 60 smp service with 100 main breaker in panel need to have electrician evaluate. Five outlets in basement have open grounds. Also for carpenter: Both entry doors to garage are not fire doors. No fire stop in garage against living space to home found. My main concern is electrical. Can this be fixed. Inspector says expect electrician to spend half a day. I will see a electrician tomorrow but I already agreed to buy this home "as Is". What should I know. This is a short sale with a quick timeline from the bank. How serious are the electrical items. House built 1955 in good condition otherwise. more

Resolved Question: Purchasing home currently renting - Landlord refusing to return security deposit. Advice?

I am looking to purchase the home I currently live in and renting. I have resided at this location for over 3 years, and wish to remain for many more years to come for the sake of my children's schooling. (Great schools in the area!) A main concern of mine is the large security deposit I put down at the beginning of my rental agreement. My landlord is refusing to give me the security deposit back in full, telling me I may only get partial. Considering I am purchasing the house, I am a bit confused as to why. I have researched the laws in Texas regarding tenant rights and have not come across anything regarding information in relation to my issue. If anyone has any information that may be useful for me to argue my right to receive my full deposit back, or if you know I am completely out of luck, please share. (Let me add that I have only called my landlord a few times for non-working or broken items. My husband is very handy and fixes most of the things needing to be fixed - at our expense. Ex: Our garage door motor went out some time ago, which we did notify him of, but said it wasn't important to us to have it fixed. Of course by saying so, he never had it repaired. Another example: Recently our A/C went out, which we did call him for. When the service tech came out, he said the unit would have to be replaced. I am very grateful for my employer, because due to the line of work I am in, I was able to get a brand new unit for nothing, (a $4000 unit for nothing)...something I did not have to do. I basically "upped" the value of his home, and all I received in return was 1/2 a months rent off for 2 months.) Please advise.I have gone in to contract with him to purchase the house. The money held as a security deposit is for in the event we damage the house. The contract states it is for a security deposit to be used toward these repairs, if necessary. It does not state 1st and last months rent anywhere in relation to the deposit. more

Resolved Question: Have you ever seen any idiot sightings?

IDIOT SIGHTING: We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, "Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower." I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, "NO, it's not... Four is larger than two..." We haven't used Sears repair since. IDIOT SIGHTING: My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, "You gave me too much money." I said, "Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back." She sighed and went to get the manager who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said "We're sorry but we cannot do that kind of thing." The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and 75 cents in change... Do not confuse the clerks at McDonald's. IDIOT SIGHTING: I live in a semi rural area. We recently had a new neighbor call the local township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING sign on our road... The reason: "Too many deer are being hit by cars out here! I don't think this is a good place for them to be crossing anymore." IDIOT SIGHTING: I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee asked, "Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?" To which I replied, "If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?" He smiled knowingly and nodded, "That's why we ask." IDIOT SIGHTING: The stoplight on the corner buzzes when it's safe to cross the street. I was crossing with an intellectually challenged coworker of mine. She asked if I knew what the buzzer was for. I explained that it signals blind people when the light is red. Appalled, she responded, "What on earth are blind people doing driving?!" (She was a probation officer in Wichita , KS ) IDIOT SIGHTING: I work with an individual who plugged her power strip back into itself and for the sake of her life, couldn't understand why her system would not turn on... A deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff's office, no less!! IDIOT SIGHTING: When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver side door... As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. "Hey," I announced to the technician, "It's open!" His reply, "I know. I already got that side. This was at the Ford dealership in Canton , MS IDIOT SIGHTINGS: When I left Hawaii and was transferred to Florida , I still had the Hawaiian plates on my car, as my car was shipped from Hawaii . I was parking somewhere (I can't remember) and a guy asked me "Wow, you drove from Hawaii to here?" I looked at him and quickly said "Yep. I took the Hawaii/San Francisco Bridge". He nodded his head and said, "Cool"! more

Resolved Question: What can I do to get my Security Deposit back?

My landlord is looking to take the most out of m deposit and I would like to know if she is right. I paid for the cleaning service, carpet cleaning, a handyman to repair nail holes, touch up paint, the lawn to be cut, a new air filter and also a water filter for fridge that she made me. Now she is sending another list - the kitchen faucet was too stiff so she bought a new one. The whirpool tub is not working, although we never used it. One of the stove burners are not working. The garage door opener batteries are out (although we never used them). The light is out on the porch and she re-mulched the flower beds because apparently I didn't do a good enough job. And some of the door stoppers are missing. Am I seriously responsible for all of this? What falls under "normal wear and tear?" more

Voting Question: How can I prove my neighbor steals from me?

I am a very friendly and gulible at times person. My next door neighbors have been friendly with me since I moved into this house.I always told them that if they ever needed anything and I had it to give , just to ask me (example some food etc) . I gifted them at xmas, birthdays with a thoughtful gift ,since I am very poor and struggling very hard to make ends meet. They on the other hand own their own business and do very well. The house I live in is very tiny, so when I moved here I had to put alot of my things in the garage in back of house which has no door to it,it is fully open on entrance side. There are no other people living anywhere near us. it started with my canned goods, every night they would walk their dogs around my huose,I did not pay attention. One day I went out back,to get some vegetables.I have very small kitchen so I keep most of my canned goods outside.I only buy the canned goods when they are on sale because i cannot afford to otherwize. So one day as I looked through my cans,I noticed all my tuna was missing about 20 cans. I then walked off porch because i saw a pile of cans in some strange order on the floor of porch near outside edge. I looked from the grass unto porch and saw a pattern of cans, all name brand cans only were there, and were lined up and stacked.I live alone with my little girl,I know I did not do this. So then every morning I checked the stack leaving it as is,because i simply could not believe they were doing this to me. Sure enough, every morning few more cans from the neetly lined up pile were gone. The system was clear, late night walking dogs around my house in dark, take enough cans not to be noticed in case I appreared out front. Then on at least 5 occasions one of them would come over, or be outside in one of my shirts or sweaters I had in bins in garage for lack of space in house. Then I saw my turquoise earrings which were a one of a kind i myself had created being worn by one of them. Then b4 winter came I went to get my new down comforter out of garage which was a gift from my brother, and very dear to me for 2 reasons.1.i could never afford such a comforter myself 2.it was from my dear kind brother. One day I came to their door to bring them their mail, they let me in ,I went to livingroom where on the sofa i saw my comforter,at first i did not think it was mine, still in disbilief at their behavior.Until i sat down and saw part of tag , then i knew since the tag on mine said to my sis with love I just got up and left extremely upset and sad. I finally said something one day and when i did I was told I was crazy and there was nothing I could prove. Then I had purchased a pass for the dump , because where we live the garbage service costs more money than I have.and the pass is 45 for a year. They asked me to use it,I said ok like an idiot, they never returned that either. The biggest issue I have happend after i finally stopped all communication with them. Yesterday I went to garage,I had 5 large boxes of genuine gemstone jewelry strands, that I use to create jewery from. Not one of the boxes was there. These boxes are worth 2-3,000.00 and are all i have of any value and that i can use to make some extra money. Again I cant prove it. My neighbor across the street said she saw one of them wearing a long turquoise necklace, but that she knew it wasnt one of mine because it wasn't very well made. She took the components as well to create her own. Some tell me,get survelnace camera,I do not have any extra money at all.and nowhere to get any. I am so sad,and feel so betrayed. I have never harmed a soul in my life, and have given when i had barely nothing myself. I hope someone has some ideas of in at least how to prevent further theft, or how i can possibly prove the thefts which already occured. The police said I need proof, pictures or video. I feel so helpless, used, and heart broken, since the only thing of great value I had was those gemstones I had in order to create jewelry to help me make some extra money so I can do something special for my little girl once in a while. I pray someone has some solutions for me. Thank YouThe jewelry that was taken with the exception of the earrings were not made into lewelry yet, they were all strands of gemstone jewelry as they come to you before you create jewelry out of them. more

Resolved Question: Can an officer intervene with evidence of a neighbors dog roaming in the streets without a leash?

we have a neighbor who is completely negligent with their dog. on many occasion we would see it roaming in our yard without a leash and also pee and poop in our yard. we called animal services and they said that next time we see the dog without a leash we should detain the animal as evidence. so i finally got my chance when i saw it pooping on our yard as i was driving up into my driveway. i got out of my car and grabbed the dog by the collar (it was a very old gentle dog) and just pulled it into our garage. i called animal services and they were not available and so called the police. an officer came and told us that they can't really do anything because animal services is not his area and to wait for animal services the next morning. the officer leaves and 10-15 min later, the neighbor knocks on our door and asks for their dog back ( i wonder how they found out...) i told them that they can get their dog from animal services. another 10-15 min later, the same officer comes by and tells us that we HAVE to give the dog back because the owner's have asked for and if we don't give it back it's considered "theft" because we have their "property" on our land. I told the officer that it was not theft because it was roaming freely on our yard and that i'll be calling animal services the next day. the officer got upset and said that i had 5 seconds to return the dog back and on the last second he was already barging into my house for the dog. so i led him into the garage and he took the dog. so several questions here...did i need to return the dog back even though the neighbor's found out about their dog on our property? after all it was freely roaming on our property so how is it considered "theft?" can an officer force his way into my house to get the dog? i felt very violated. i thought officers don't deal with animal services? i was looking forward to have the dog detained until animal services came so that i could prove to them that our neighbor's dog does indeed roams without a leash and also poops (also i got a picture on my camera phone of the dog in our driveway) any advice, thought? more

Resolved Question: My daughter got outside while i was in a shower?

I live alone, because my husband is deployed, while I was taking a shower my two year old managed to get the door to the garage and the door to the outside open and unlocked while I was in the shower, when I got out I panicked when I couldn't find her anywhere and searched the entire neighborhood until an MP found me searching for her. The charged me with endangering the welfare of a minor. Social services was notified and came and inspected my home and told me she would check back with me Monday. I am terrified, nothing like this has EVER happened before and I'm not sure what to do.I've put a chain lock on the door to the garage, and put baby gates up to prevent this from ever happening again.I have put chain locks on every single door in the house, and no alarms will work on the doors or windows because of the age of the housing on post but she cannot reach any of the windows, nor can she get them unlocked. I've put child safety knobs on every single door in the house, and a latch on the door to the pantry where all chemicals are kept... Just incase. more

Resolved Question: What can I do now about a suspected theft from my home?

A few weeks ago I had several service people in my house for various activities (install cable line, deliver refrigerator, etc.) Now I can't find my spare garage door opener and several hand tools that I kept in the kitchen. Of course I have no proof that anyone took these items, or even if they were taken, which one did it - I don't stand there and look over these people's shoulders all the time they are here. I figure that have to come in, do their jobs and leave - period. Is there anything I can do now about it?Did I say they were laying out in sight? more

Resolved Question: HELP My previous tenant trespassed onto my property after he moved out and took pictures? What are my options?

The previous tenant had not cleaned the unit PROFESSIONALY as stated in his contract before he moved out. So he left me in charge of cleaning the place, including windows, carpet, stove, bathrooms etc to get it ready for the next tenant. He complained a lot that he had no money and wanted all of his security deposit back and said he was on a budget and couldn’t pay more than 500 dollars for all of these services. What about my time researching the cheapest people??? Seriously. Anyway, I was courteous enough to call him and tell him that the services could easily run to about 800 to 1000 dollars after calling 50 people who gave me estimates. He insisted that he know someone who had a package deal who could do all the window cleaning, painting, carpets, etc for one good price. I was like wow I would love to meet him, so we made an appointment to meet at the property. The minute I got there the previous tenant told us that the guy did not show up and then said he took some pictures inside the house. I was like “WHAT!!!!!!! WHY DIDN’T YOU WAINT UNTIL WE GOT THERE?” YOU CANNOT GO INSIDE THE PROPERTY ANYMORE, IT BECOMES PRIVATE AFTER YOU TURN OVER YOUR KEYS. THAT IS TRESPASSING AND ILLEGAL!! He didn’t care at all and did not think he did anything wrong. When I confronted him he just shrugged his shoulders and said “Make a note of it” I just want my security deposit back and you can only take $500 out of the $2000 that you owe me, if you take anymore I will fight for it!!” This is how the weirdo got in. We had construction worker working downstairs of the unit in the kitchen area fixing the floor so the garage door was open. Instead of waiting for me to get there he decided to go onto to the property through the garage where the construction worker was working and take pictures. The construction worker told us that he went upstairs and was on the property for 15 minutes. This previous tenant who is insane…didn’t even have anybody at all b/c he didn’t even reschedule…he lied just so he can get onto to the property and take pictures AFTER HE MOVED OUT and he did this ILLEGALLY. The place had construction work all over except for the upstairs. NEW TENANTS ARE MOVING IN A FEW DAYS. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? HELP!!!!THIS PROPERTY IS IN CALIFORNIA.The tenant was there ONLY a year 11 months to be exact and he put HOLES in the wall that is why we have to paint over the holes ONLY. NOT THE ENTIRE HOUSE.Carpet cleaning 200 window cleaning 120 cleaning the house 250 painting over the holes the tenant made with picture frames 100 broken door knobs 20 dollars broken screen bent and torn 50The carpet WAS BRAND NEW when he moved in and it needs to washed professionally...he said he would do it but left it up to me.Kemperk - I'm not suing anybody. I have 2000 dollar security deposit from this guy. I checked my calculations and its going to cost 700 dollars for all those services. more

Resolved Question: Power outage on home alarm system?

While wiring a second garage door opener (two-door garage that already had one door set up), I unplugged the existing opener on the first door then plugged it back in within a few minutes. There is an alarm system that also plugs into this same outlet as the opener and now it has no power, totally dead. The opener works fine, and I plugged the alarm into the opener socket to see if it was just a socket problem but still dead. My question is whether the power supply (small box about 3 cubic inches) has an internal fuse and can I replace it with something from Radio Shack? Trying to save the $99 service call. Thanks. Btw this is a Protection One alarm, not sure of the model.Thank you! Any idea why that situation would have killed it in the first place? Both openers work fine, all four sockets (two outlets) work fine, but the alarm won't power up. I'd hate to plug another transformer in and fry it too. I have a multimeter, anything I can look for? Appreciate it. more

Resolved Question: Our managing agent for our building is a tool. What level of service are we entitled to?

We pay extortionate levvies, something like £1600 a year, which is all the more painful to pay because the agent doesn't maintain the place at all. Our lift has broken down three times in a year, and he has left it unable to function for 3-4 weeks at a time which is frustrating when we have a baby and have prams and all that sort of thing to carry. Now the garage door has broken (I.e. it won't close) and has been sitting open for an age. Our front door to the building also sits ajar and doesn't close properly which is a security risk. I was just wondering if there is some documentation on our rights around this, and if we can form a committee or something in the building to vote on either changing agent, or getting him to do things that we want? Any help from experienced people appreciated.Sorry, forgot to mention - I own the property, and it's leasehold. more

Resolved Question: this is so super funny, will you read it?

The last one is the best. Make sure you read all the way down. Beware.. IDIOT SIGHTING When my husband and I arrived at an automobile dealership to pick up our car, we were told the keys had been locked in it. We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the technician, 'it's open!' His reply: 'I know. I already got that side.' This was at the Ford dealership in Canton, MS IDIOT SIGHTING: We had to have the garage door repaired. The Sears repairman told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener. I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one Sears made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, 'Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.' I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4. He said, 'NO, it's not.' Four is larger than two.' We haven't used Sears repair since. IDIOT SIGHTING: My daughter and I went through the McDonald's take-out window and I gave the clerk a $5 bill. Our total was $4.25, so I also handed her a quarter. She said, 'you gave me too much money.' I said, 'Yes I know, but this way you can just give me a dollar bill back. She sighed and went to get the manager, who asked me to repeat my request. I did so, and he handed me back the quarter, and said 'We're sorry but we could not do that kind of thing.' The clerk then proceeded to give me back $1 and 75 cents in change. Do not confuse the clerks at McD's. IDIOT SIGHTING : I live in a semi rural area. She asked the person behind the counter for 'minimal lettuce.' He said he was sorry, but they only had iceburg lettuce. To which I replied, 'If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?' He smiled knowingly and nodded, 'That's why we ask.' Happened in Birmingham , Ala. Resolved Question: Have you had Sudden Unintended Acceleration with a Hyundai? Similar to the current Toyota problems.?

Last year our Hyundai Santa Fe took off like a Formula One car from a near standstill whilst being parked, crashing through a closed garage door and into the rear wall, doing extensive damage to vehicle and property, and causing some personal injury. Luckily no-one was killed, but if someone had been opening the garage door ...... they would have been history. Despite an independent engineer's opinion that it was a Hyundai manufacturing and/or service failure they just don't want to know, and worse still they denied that they had ever heard of a similar situation occurring before. Now that the whole Toyota debacle is out in the open the subject of Sudden Unintended Acceleration is getting proper attention - seems it has been the subject of an automotive industry cover up for decades. Unethical doesn't even come close to covering their behaviour and they should be found guilty of manslaughter where fatalities occur, and liable to punitive damages also. There can be a whole range of causes and there is a lot of information published, but it is NOT driver error in the vast majority of cases. The only thing that is certain is that if it occurs there is nothing the driver can do about it. The manufacturers, not just Toyota, must be held accountable for safety. We know of a number of Hyundai incidents but would like to hear more. more

Resolved Question: Why did I puke today?

Today I had to go to my Army recruitor to get my pin number for mypay so I can print my W2. I was discharged after 3 months of service. My life has been full of anxiety and stress that many would probably attempt sucide to. I'm not going to get into to much detail but basically I was homless for a week sleeping outside on the ground, ect. Now, a few months later my previous employer rehired my and I am living in a garage. I just turned 21. Not getting into to much detail you can imagine the life I lead. What happened was I took the bus to the Army station and I have serious anxiety now after being discharged when I'm around the military. I walked in talked to the people who recruited me told them what I need (W2 form). They instantly knew I was messed up, first thing one of them said "is their something wrong?" I said no. Then they started giving me shit about wasting thier time and dropping out and I told them I need to go to school and one of them said "are you calling me stupid?" I said no, I just want to go to school because I don't want to be in the enlisted branch of the military. The other guy said "your going to quit school just like you quit bootcamp". My stomach was turning I already feel so guilty for cheating my way out of their and all the stress I have already everyday is to much. I feel like a failure and a quitter. After I got the information I need I got back on the bus and started to feel sick. I got off at a random stop walked into "Kohls" went into the restroom closed the door and puked in the sink. I sat down on the floor for like 10 minutes and just sat. Than I got myself back together and walked probably 3 miles to my friends house. Can anybody tell me why I threw up? Am I suffering from serious anxiety? I don't understand. All I know is my life makes me sick to my stomach. BTW: I'm not some fat loser either. I'm a 5'10 male very athletic muscular build. I had the most push ups in my platoon, 5th on situps, 3rd on running, and fastest through the obstacle course, out of 54 people. I also did all my pull ups without help and I was considered a squared away soldier. The drill sergeants complimented me on my techniques through the courses. My only problem is I never had a father and I lose my direction becuase I'm all alone and I don't know what to do sometimes. more

Resolved Question: Shoplifting, Can i still get a job?

hi, im 14 now, but i shop lifted a year ago when i was 13 years old and it was in april i think.. i shoplifted at shoppers drug mart and i live in canada, the police was involved and i received a fine, the things i stole were just a few chocolates and stuff like that, under $20 i never went to the thing they told me to go to because i couldn't and they told me if i went to that thing [some teenager shop lifting thing] then i wouldn't have to pay the fine, but i couldn't make it to the that thing, nor paid the fine. I applied for a job and no reply, will i ever get a job and this was my first time getting caught shop lifting, my mom isn't going to pay for the fine for me so i was planning to get a job at tim Horton's since im 14 years old now, but i don't think i'll get the job since i shop lifted, it's affected me greatly and i've never stolen again after that. I know i did a bad thing, which is why i stopped. I SWEAR! But now im wondering, will it be on my records for the rest of my life, will i be able to get a job? and if i have to do community service, how many hours? and.. what will happen now, since i haven't paid the fines & stuff [it was my first offense/first time getting caught shop lifting]? BTW.. Additional information: i got banned from shoppers for 2 yrs and that mall for 6 months, but i've been scared to go back since, and it's my favourite mall! ]: 2 police officers came up to my apartment the other day a few Min's after i came home from school [like 10 mins] and knocked on my door for like about what.. 5 mins? i pretended i wasn't home cause i was scared as hell.. and then they went next door and asked the neighbour's for information about me, i was looking and listening through the peep hole thing. Because my mom is a single mother, i wanted to pay this off myself, [the fine was about $500 or so] so i was planning to get a job, but they never replied, i applied for a few stores like garage, and tim hortons. But they never replied. ]: Will the police actually come to my school and take me away or anything? and what would have happened if i opened the door when the police came? [my mom was at work at the time] I'm not the type of person to really do something like this, it kind of grew into me because one of my friends growing up did it, and my mom always talked about my dad doing it and i got annoyed of it so i started to steal.. bad idea :[ i've never done it again though, i swear! i'm a good person now. But yeah.. what will happen now? im 14 years old now, in 9th grade trying to get through the school year and this is mostly what i'm thinking about because im super worried about it! Please help! Oh Yeah, they also took 2 mug shots of me and gave me some tresspassing papers & that program paper thing that i was sapposed to attend but never did.. more

Exterior upgraded - shingles, vinyl siding, eaves troughs, windows, doors, elec meter & panel. New rear addition. Parking spaces or garage space avail at rear lane. GST may be payable. SOLD AS-IS. I drove past it, looked around and its very big. The shell is nice, has a pretty big back yard too. I was thinking since its only 35grand that i could buy it and live in it while i fix it, are services expensive to install? I grew up fixing two of my dads houses, dry walls cheap, i know an electrician and a carpenter friend. I was told by a good friend of mine ( hes in his 40's with his family, pretty wealthy man ) that i should just get 2000 and buy a junker house and fix it up and sell it. But i'm going to make this house into a duplex that way my cash flow would be great, i want quality not quantity. This house is huge, for sure enough to make a duplex, even a triplex. The area is not so good, but okay to live in, i'll be doing most of the labour myself and living insid it to save money on rent. I'm 20 years old male, steady job, about 2000 dollars each month, i live in canada and the rent i'm paying right now is 500 dollars each month. What do you think? Can anyone give me some advice here? Should i buy a single family house? If i do buy a single family house the cheapest one in the market right now is a 2 bedroom beaten up house in a ok area for 30,000, if i buy a single family home it won't be worth much fixd up also. Sorry if this is so long, i appreciate you taking the time to read it. This project may take me a full year to fix up. I'm not saying i'm buying this, but eventually i want to buy something like this more

We went to the service department and found a mechanic working feverishly to unlock the driver's side door. As I watched from the passenger side, I instinctively tried the door handle and discovered that it was unlocked. 'Hey,' I announced to the Fitter/Mechanic, 'its open!' His reply, 'I know. I already did that side.' This was at the Ford dealership in St Albans, Hertfordshire, UK . more

Resolved Question: Do i put my separation anxiety dog to sleep? Suggestions needed please. Wits end?

Already had a blk lab Lily who is well behaved. Adopted 2nd blk lab 3 yrs ago, age 2, from humane society. Jed has bad anxiety. Current daily routine: Leash free park run EVERY morning 30 min. Nutro ultra holistic- breakfast. Dogs go in custom welded 6' x12' steel bar pen in garage when we go to work. Bowl of water and a stuffed kong everyday. Radio is on softly. We dont talk or pay attention to dogs before or as we leave and we ignore them when we return home. Jed goes frantic and barks madly all day. Sometimes vomiting. Emptys water bowl with feet. The dogs are together but he remains upset. I cant do yard work and leave him in the house or he freaks out. If i tie him outside he freaks out when i walk just beyond his reach. If i bring Lily to the vet i have to tranquilize Jed (acecvet) so he can be left at home. I left him in my Escape to run in and get milk and he chewed my shifter to pieces. Tried sonar collar, citronella collar, correction collar, no help for barking. He is a little relaxed in the house with us but not normal. He is clingy. He wont sit and stay when company comes cuz he has to be by my side. All the training in the world will not over-ride his panic. both dogs are together and can play all day but he is too panicked. The barking upsets the well behaved dog. The neighbors have not complained, yet. If i put them on the patio to play he throws himself against the door and digs at the glass. He is wound up like a top at the vet, we get back door service and have to cover his eyes so he doesnt see other animals. When he goes to the park he runs around for 10 minutes but get worried and walks next to my side for the next 20 min. We try to socialize him with dogs but he foams at the mouth and is excited but still remains by my side. When we first got him Jed stayed in a bedroom with lily and he chewed trim, door, doorways, and opened the window to get out. We moved onto crating him and he got out of the crate. If he didnt get out he vomited and broke teeth. Moved onto a mesh wire pen in the garage. He chewed through it many times. Barkbusters (dog training) came in and eventually told us to try medication combined with training. Put Jed on Clomicalm for a year. Poor results. Also tried bach rescue remedy prior to meds. Husband welded current pen which limits his destruction but he tries to dig through the concrete. I cant give him to the humane society again as no one will put up with this dog. I cant tranquilize him everyday. I could give him to a farm but he doesnt want to run free as he is clingy. I could give him to someone who stays home all day but eventually they have to leave the house! I am sooo upset, Jed is suffering but IS it my choice to put him to sleep? I have to consider If i put him down my other dog will be alone. The only thing i have not tried is DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone). I adopted this dog and it is my responsibility but where do i draw the line. He is suffering as well as us :( Looking for the magic solutionMy question is detailed as i want to discuss everything i have tried. The radio is on softly everyday. I did tape recorded my voice but he thinks im in the room and freaks out more cuz he cant see me. I stated that I did get a trainer, barkbusters. They said they have never seen a dog like this and suggested medication after many sessions. When i called the humane society to discuss Jed they said "ohhh! we remember Jed hes crazy" more

Resolved Question: Older brother who is broke, refuses to help himself and on the verge of being homeless - what to do?

I'm 47 and my older brother is 56. He quit his job two years ago because he claimed the job was too physical and had too low pay. He was a smoker and heavy beer drinker. After he quit he sat in his house doing nothing but living off his savings and drinking. He's since ran out of money, had all his utilities cut off and they are foreclosing on his home. I was going to his house, bringing him food, calling churches and other charity places trying to find help for him and they reached out, offered him help but he did NOTHING. He just sat at his house feeling sorry for himself waiting to be rescued. The last time I went to visit him he begged me for money (which I refused to give him because he would just go buy beer and cigarettes with it). I brought him food, the neighbors were helping him until his begging got to be too much. Neighbors called me saying he was panhandling up and down the street lying about needing gas money, etc. They got scared of him when he would just walk into people's garages or in their homes if they left the door open. The police have been called on him twice. He's since written hot checks and claims there is a warrant out for his arrest. I gave him a book of stamps (since he has no phone) and told him to send me a letter each week to let me know he's ok. He's done nothing. He won't do anything to help himself and I'm tired of feeling guilty about him. I'm a single mom with a son. My brother cannot move in with me as I know he'd steal from me to buy booze and then I could never get rid of him. He has always been a bad influence on my son so I don't want him near our home. He claimed at one time he was dying of cancer to get sympathy from neighbors but it was a lie. He has no money at all and no food except for what neighbors bring him. I hate even going out to his house because all the neighbors want me to do something about him. I've called the Sheriff's dept. and told them the situation - they have my info in case something happens. Church groups and adult protective services tried helping him but he refused their help. He's let his life go to waste and as I'm his only living relative the burden is all on me. Growing up he was never an older brother I could trust or rely on. He did drugs and drank heavily and when I was little he asked me to perform oral sex on him (I didn't do it). I despise him yet I feel guilty abandoning him but I don't know what else I should do and I resent having to take care of him and bring him food. I've tried talking to him but he seems to be a bit mentally "off". Not sure if he's currently on drugs that someone is providing him or what his problem is. He can't remember anything and repeats himself constantly. He's always made up lies so I can't believe anything he says. Should I just let him be and move on with my life? He gave me the title to his car and told me to put it in MY name as he wanted me to have it. I'm scared about doing this in case he takes off in his car then crashes, killing other people - I could then end up being sued. But, I don't want him giving his car away for money. Any advice on how to deal with this crap? I myself have been through a lot. I've spent years getting my life on track after the loss of my husband and the death of my parents and other brother. I have a good job, I'm a good mother to my son and I work hard to survive. I can't let a screwed up brother ruin everything I've worked my a** off to get. My brother is mean when he drinks - he spews profanities, calls me names, has kicked my pets and said things to my son that were horrible. His famous drunk line to me is "Who the f--- do you think you are? You're NOT my mother!". So, he's right....I am not his mother, his caretaker or his rescuer. Yet I still guilt and hope God doesn't punish me for not helping him more. Am I doing the right thing? Even his friends can't help him anymore - they've given up on him. more

Resolved Question: SUV OWNERS :: '97 Isuzu Rodeo :: Lift Kit? Paintjob? Wheels? Roof Rack? Offer your 2¢ on what you'd suggest!?

Hi guys & gals! Leon, my red 1997 Isuzu Rodeo is an all stock, love of my life! The engine runs marvelously, and aside from some bumper rust he still looks like he was pulled out of the lot a few years ago! So, after spending the last few months addicted to the forum at planetisuzoo.com I figured it was time to start asking around for peoples opinions on what I'd like done on my rodeo. I'm 17, and have no knowledge of cars, but I learn quickly and I've read a lot of the things I hope to do on my rodeo can be done in your garage! 1) Lift Kit :: A lot of SUV owners (specifically a lot of Isuzu's) get Lift's done on the their vehicles. I'm interested in getting a lift because right now I feel like I ride much lower than I'd like. Obviously there must be a better reason for why so many people get lift kits, so I was wondering what benefit having the vehicle lifted anywhere from 2"-4" would offer? Also approximately what the cost would be if I went to my gas station mechanic and they order & install it (also how long it may take). I personally am considering maybe a 2" lift. 2) Paintjob :: It can easily be argued an 11yo car whose value is below 2grand should never get a paintjob, but in my case it is drastically needed. My dad purchased my Rodeo in 1998, and it was listed as "factory rebuilt." By the papers, the truck was never involved in any accident, yet Leon has two shades of red. On the passenger side of the vehicle, from the front door back, is a duller less shiny/glossy red paint. On the drivers side, the rear door and back is the same less glossy red. The front end of the car is a full toned shiny red, and the roof and back door are again the less glossy red. When the vehicle was purchased, this was not visible, but over time it has begun to show, and I worry poor Leon will eventually be considered as just any old Isuzu, TRASH! So, I saw Maaco was offering their Ambassador Paint Service for $249, instead of the usual $500! What a deal! So I figure since the entire car will be painted, then it's a good deal! Only problem is, why is it so cheap? And whether or not I choose Maaco, I know I will be getting a paintjob in the near future, and I was wondering what body color looks best on 1st gen Rodeo's? 3) Wheels :: Lots of PlantIsuzoo users, after getting a lift kit, go off and get huge 35's! Though I think that may too big for me, if I get a 2 inch lift what rim & wheel size should I be looking into? Also, what sort of things should I consider when looking at wheels in general? Right now I just do simple rode driving, but I hope to one day hit a few steep mountainous/snowy roads around the Rockies! What sort of wheels are good for streets, and are capable of handling snowy/rocky trails up steep grades? Lastly, what is a great deal price for tires? What is the average or expected price? What would be considered too much for wheels? 4) Roof Rack :: Another item I want just for looks, but I truly feel a roof rack would add great storage capability and a nice look to my Rodeo. I'm interested in one that can hold 2 or 4 fog lights, and I'd like one positioned about the same place that picture 1 shows. Also, are there roof racks that can snap off their feet, so if I enter a low clearance garage I can always just snap the rack off and stick it in the trunk? What would be the low, medium, and high price for roof racks? Really I'm hoping for comments and ideas from anybody, whether isuzu owner or not. I'll pick best answer by how much I learn, and how much gets answered from all that I asked. I know I will still have questions, but this should help me narrow down those questions to a few simple ones. Thanks for reading, and I can't wait to read your responses! Voting Question: Help! I need good ideas to detract spiders and keep them out of my house...?

This fall I've killed literally hundreds of the same kind of spider (which I’ve never really noticed until it started cooling down this year, they’re medium sized (a bit larger than a quarter, including legs, and they almost never move – until they realize they’re getting attacked). But they keep congregating near our home’s entry door in our attached garage. Is there anything I can put on the (drywall) walls and ceiling of the area to detract them from our home’s entryway? I feel a bit bad killing them, but more keep showing up and hanging around. I’m sure that eventually they’ll be vying to get into the house for the winter – help! (I’d love a nice home-remedy or DIY trick, we have a toddler (and we’re completely broke) so I’m not eager to use industrial repellents and can’t afford a pest-service.) more
