Resolved Question: reprogramming garage door keypad?

I am buying a House, It is a foreclosure. So no one know the code to the garage door opener, all it has on it is just a keypad, no other buttons, I believe it said it was first security, or something like that. I was wondering how do i reprogram this? or would it be better to buy a new one? if i bought a new one is it hard to install a new keypad and program it to the laser and all that? thanks! more

Resolved Question: How can you DISABLE a built-in garage door opener in a vehicle of a former boyfriend?

My daughter had an abusive boyfriend who had her GDO programmed into his 2001(?) Infinity. We reset the GDO itself and reset the handheld remotes and keypad already. Last night, she found flowers and an "I'm sorry" note inside her garage. Apparently all he had to do was hide somewhere and wait for her to open and close her garage and it reset the code in his car. How can this be prevented? She's made some bad decisions concerning him in the past and going to the police now would be of little help. more

Resolved Question: Can program both garage door car transmitters but not keypad remote?

I have two Sears garage door openers that I installed when I bought my house. I was able to program two car remotes (using two buttons on each transmitter, one primary and one as secondary depending on whose car the remote was in) and one keypad. I only used one of the keypads on the "main" garage door since it was only necessary to be able to open one door when no car transmitter was present. I put the keypad for the second one on the shelf in case I had to replace the first. After replacing the battery in one car transmitter I started running into programming issues and here is where I stand: I can program both remotes for both garage door openers without a problem, however, when I try to program the keypad the system won't allow me to program the car transmitters. I read some posts and thought the roll over programming on the keypad was bad so I got the keypad off the shelf, the one I never used, and tried using it, to no avail. So as it stands, I can either have two working car transmitters and no keypad or a keypad and no car transmitters, but not both (or even one car transmitter and a keypad, tried that too.) Any ideas? It all worked at one point and since I used a keypad that had never been used I don't believe it's a bad keypad and since I can program both car transmitters I don't think it's those either. Thanks for your response. David more

Resolved Question: My garage door will not open? Can someone suggest how I can open it?

The door does not have a remote and it is connected to the wall and has wires running in to the keypad. the garage is a detached garage and has no other way to enter it. There is a small window but I want to exhaust all options before breaking the window pane. There are no sensors outside the garage door either that may have been dis-oriented. more

Voting Question: Craftsman Garage Door Opener Malfunctioning?

Okay, I'm having an issue with my Sears Craftsman garage door opener. Not exactly sure of the model number, but can dig it up if that's necessary. Symptoms: 1) Door opens fine from either wall button or remote(s) 2) Door closes fine from remotes 3) Press and release the wall button, it starts down, and then stops and backs up like something is blocking the sensors. Sensor lights are green. 4) Press and HOLD the wall button and the door will close completely. 5) Close the door from any remote control (car, outside keypad) and it closes fine EVERY time. 6) Problem seems confined to the wall button. 7) Unconfirmed, but it looks to be an issue only at night. In other words, if there is sunlight spilling in the open door, the wall switch works fine. 8) Have cleaned the lenses on the sensors and, again, they are always GREEN, even when it's malfunctioning. Any help would be appreciated. more

Voting Question: How can I re-program the numbered keypad (not the push button) on my automatic garage door opener?

I have a Model 67LM. The keyless entry has numbers an astericks and a pound key. If the instructions state hit the ENTER key, what would be the ENTER key -- they * or the #?The Keyless Entry has a number pad and a * on the left side and a # on the right side. It has no buttons and or lights anywhere else on the mechanism. When I typed in new keys, it blinked twice, but it did not take. The instructions state I need to click the Learn key. There is ABSOLUTELY no Learn Key. Perhaps the * or the # is the Learn key. I really don't know. Please help. more

Resolved Question: Have Craftsman garage door opener. Past 2 years, it has a mind of it's own, will open, but closing, not always?

Can hit keypad or button to close, but garage door will go back up, like the pet detectors activate and garage door will raise back to open position. I have cleaned AND detached the pet detectors and the garage door will still not close. Only way garage door will close is if you hold down button to activate garage door and continue to hold button til door is completely closed. If you let go of button in mid stream, garage door will return back to the open position. Has this unit gone bad, or can it be a easy fix. This situation lasts up to a few days, or it can last a few weeks, as I said, a mind of it's own! Please help! more

Resolved Question: garage door interference and more?

We've had several issues...they may be unrelated, but I'm doubting it so I'm listing them all. Our lights downstairs used to go in and out (now only one of 8 comes on and it's not bad bulbs - it's been suggested the ballasts are bad). We had AT&T U-verse TV for several months with no issues and for the past 5 months we've had nothing but trouble...having to reset our modem and all systems repeating resulting in 6 in-home services visits. Our wireless network is dropping in and out and is very unreliable. The two hard-wired to the internet have no issues, but anything on wireless is very up and down. Now our garage door opener only works using the remotes to open the door. The remotes will not open the door at all (neither will our outside keypad) and the pad by our door will not work to close it unless we hold it down until the door is completely closed. There is nothing obbstructing the door's path. Also, recently, anytime we try to use electrical outlets outside they work only for a few moments and then the reset buttons kick off. This has never been an issue before using the exact same equipment. Our landscaping lights are not working outside now either. What could be causing this? Is this electrical? Should we be contacting an electrician? I just don't know where to begin! An AT&T rep told me our compact fluorescent bulbs could be causing the problems. Could this really be when we've had those lights for more than two years and are only recently experiencing these issues? more

Voting Question: Do I have to have all doors closed to arm my house alarm?

I am installing an alarm system in my house (a GE Networx NX-6). And yes it is a little more complicated than I thought. But I think I have everything set up correctly, except for one problem. I can't arm my system unless all zones are "Ready", which means all perimeter doors must be closed and nothing sensing motion. I guess I am looking at feedback as to how other people's alarms work, and see if I need to look further into my manual. Does everyone else have to close all doors before they can arm their system? What if I have my garage door open and I want to leave, I should be able to arm the system, leave, then close my garage door from my car remote, right? It looks like right now I have to close my garage door, stand in front of the keypad until the motion detector stops sensing motion, then hit arm, then reopen my garage door, leave, and reclose my garage door. Sounds more like a hastle than a convenience to me. ThanksThat just doesn't seem to make sense to arm the system, then move to get out of the house which will trip the motion sensors, then I have to open my door to the garage, the overhead garage door, and leave the house then close the overhead garage door with my car remote. That just seems like a pain in the butt to arm the thing!! more

Resolved Question: Craftsman garage door opener can not program keypad and remote to operate together?

Can not program both keypad remote to operate at the same time. I have a Craftsman garage door opener, and it is not allowing me to program both keypad and remote. A. Programming the remote 1) I hold the learn button for about 5 seconds to erase the memory. 2) Press/release the learn button (program light illuminates) 3) Hit the remote button (within 30 secs). 4) The unit light flashes to indicate it has accepted the remote code 5) The remote works 6) Press/Release learn button to program keypad (program light now on) 7) Enter 4 digit code and hold enter (within 30 secs) 8) Unit light does not flash to indicate code is accepted and keypad does not work. I can then erase all the codes by holding the learn button, and start programming the keypad first. It will then accept the keypad codes and operate the door. However, it will not accept the remote code. I am following the Craftsman manual to the tee! Also worth noting. I do not have a door control unit with a light or lock button so it cannot be programmed without the learn button. Thanks in advance for your help! more

Resolved Question: Bugs in garage door opener!?

Yeah. It's gross. Every once in a while, I'll flip open the lid to my garage door opener (the keypad that's on the outside), and find half a dozen earwigs just chillin'. Well, they were chillin'. Most of them drop when I open the lid, the rest scurry back in between the buttons or something. I give the ones on the ground a good size 12 Emerican kick in the everywhere. I want to get rid of them, but I also don't want to mess up the wiring or whatever with bug spray. Any tips? more

Voting Question: I locked myself out of the garage. How do I open it?

The otherday, Me and my Sister were out in the garage. No windows, no regular doors. just walls, floor, cieling and the overhead door. Well, I took the garage door opener with me. I went upstairs, and then she came up, not knowing that the opener was inside. She closed the door from the switch on the inside. Our owners has another opener, but he tried it, and it won't work. It has a keypad thing, but we don't know what the code is, or how to work it. We were told it was disconnected. We can't pull it open because it is locked. Not in a way to were you can pick the lock and it opens, but it is hatched somehow. Locked and won't let it go up without the opener. We CANNOT run into the garage with our car. We don't want to have to pay for somebody to come out and open it. We need to get in there though before June 18th, 6pm Mountain Time. Because we have sound equiptment, Guitars, Bass Guitars, ect.. It's all in there. and we need it! more

Resolved Question: Overhead(Legacy)---Genie garage door?

The torsion springs were replaced today by the repair men and when we pushed either button(remote or wall mount), the garage slightly opened. However, after he replaced the springs, the repair man was not able to get the motor to lift the door. He said that we had to replace the motor. I'm wondering if anything happened to the settings of the motor or something after he replaced the springs. Is there a way to reset the motor. If we press the wall mount or the little remote we hear nothing but a red light lights up on the back of the motor. We do not have a keypad outside of the garage, only the wall mount and the two remotes. Any ideas on what happened or how to reset it??!?!?!?!?the door can be raised by hand. But the motor is not working. When we press either the remote or the wall mount, a red light blinks on the back of the motor mount. But clicks, no movement, no nothing!! help!!!! more

Resolved Question: Why can't I find a more secure garage opener remote?

I want to keep a garage door opener in my car. Same way about 3/4's of people probably do it, up on the visor or something so you can open the garage. However the thing that I don't trust is if someone breaks into the car. It just seems way too easy for someone to break into the car, and then be able to have full access to my garage. Even if it doesn't happen in the driveway, it seems way too easy if someone were to steal the car (my car is a high theft target), find out my address off the registration or insurance cards or something, and drive to my house and have full access to the garage. It seems like a brainless invention to have a compact garage opener that either a) scans your thumbprint when you push the button, or b) has a small keypad to enter your pin for it to open. (I know there are huge bulky ones like that designed to mount on the wall, why not a small one). I've searched and searched for a more secure garage opener, but can't find it. Is there any out there? more

Resolved Question: Program a remote and keypad on a garage door opener?

I got a keypad for my mom for her garage door, but I am having trouble program both remote and keypad. If I erase all codes I can easily program the keypad or remote (which ever I program 1st) but then I can't get the 2nd one to program once I set up the 1st. What am I doing wrong? I push in the learn code button and it syncs up the 1st on the first try. But then I push the learn code button and then I can't get it to add the 2nd one. What am I doing wrong? It is a Chamberlain, Deluxe Whipser (about 15-20 years old). The car remote has 3 buttons. The keypad is a 66LM. As I understand, you can program numerous remotes to it. So do I need to just keep repeating the step for the remote after programing the keypad? I would think it wouldn't take that many tries because it picks it up fast if it is the first programmed. Or does it take 10-20 times to get it to program the additional remotes?I will have to check later to see about the security +. I know the learn button on the motor is red. Before now we had the keypad, 1 original remote (came with 2), and my mom's Pathfinder has a built in 3 button open on the visor, so she didn't need her original one anymore. So there was 2 remotes and 1 keypad all working at the same time.I looked at the remote and this is what I found. 102 278 Date 10/98 953CB FCC ID: HB1203 I know very little about garage door openers so I hope that helps. more

Resolved Question: Know the title of this movie?

This is going to be a tough one I know, but I'm looking for the title of a certain movie. I do not know the year or any of the actors, but I've only seen the end of the movie. All I remember is seeing someone who's apparently broke into a wealthy family's home attempting to get some form of CD. I remember the young girl of the family sending a silent alarm to the police on a security keypad, and shutting down the houses power through the keypad as well which leads her father and the intruder fighting. The mother attempted to escape with the young girl through the garage but the door would not open. Finally, I remember (what I think was the intruder) exiting through the front door of the house with the CD and instantly being shot by the police or the family's private security force. I hope this is enough information for someone who's seen the movie to be able to place a title on it for me!This movie was pre-2000. more

Resolved Question: Garage door keypad not working...?

We have been in our house for over 2 years now. I have noticed the keypad on the garage door tends not to work as well when it's cold outside (under 32 degrees). Now it is still lighting up, but I type our code in and it doesn't open, it won't do anything. Usually, if I type the wrong code in, it will flash rapidly. Do you think I need to change the battery in it? Could it be going? If so, what kind of battery do I need, I don't have the manual anymore.  more

I am renting a house with a garage door that has an opener. It is an older model Sears craftsman opener, there is no known remotes only a keypad on the wall attached with a wire. Resolved Question: Garage door opener has failed 2 remotes don't work so what is the least damaging way to get in?

The problem is in a detached one car garage. Power in the garage also operates a sprinkler system which is working. A keypad on the outside of the garage has not worked for some time. One remote is kept in the house and the other is in a car. Door is wooden, the opener is a "Sears" brand with an "eye" safety on each side (bottem)of the door and no key release or battery backup. Only one window that hasn't been opened...ever, is painted shut and there is furnature in front of it in the garage. There is a skylight that seems to have been made of an acrylic sheet with a lot of silicone. Walls are wood frame construction with cement-asbestos tile siding. I know if I can get in any other way I can pull the release to open the door, but: What is the least damaging way to get in? Considering removing the door molding but don't know if I can then reach the catches. There is no particular emergengy. Possible junk fell infront of safety and turned off opener? Thanks. more
