moreVoting Question: do you think you can reduce your stress levels to get pregnant and not miscarry?
ive been reading online about something ive only just read about cortisol. im definately going to be trying not to get stressed as i can now see exactly why people tell us to calm down and then we will get pregnant...
[edit] Factors generally reducing cortisol levels
Magnesium supplementation decreases serum cortisol levels after aerobic exercise,[44][45] but not in resistance training.[46]
Omega 3 fatty acids, in a dose dependent manner,[47] can lower cortisol release influenced by mental stress[48] by suppressing the synthesis of interleukin-1 and 6 and enhance the synthesis of interleukin-2, where the former promote higher CRH release. Omega 6 fatty acids, on the other hand, acts inversely on interleukin synthesis.[citation needed]
Music therapy can reduce cortisol levels in certain situations.[49]
Massage therapy can reduce cortisol.[50]
Laughing and the experience of humour can lower cortisol levels.[51]
Makeup reduces cortisol levels in a mental stress situation.[52]
Soy derived Phosphatidylserine interacts with cortisol but the right dosage is still unclear.[53][54]
Vitamin C may slightly blunt cortisol release in response to a mental stressor. [55]
Black tea may speed up recovery from a high cortisol condition.[56][57]
[edit] Factors generally increasing cortisol levels
Caffeine may increase cortisol levels.[58]
Sleep deprivation increases cortisol levels.[59]
Intense (high VO2 max) or prolonged physical exercise stimulate cortisol release in order to increase gluconeogenesis and maintain blood glucose.[60] Proper nutrition[61] and high-level conditioning[62] can help stabilize cortisol release.
Val/Val variation of the BDNF gene in men, and the Val/Met variation in women is associated with increased salivary cortisol in a stressful situation.[63]
Hypoestrogenism and melatonin supplementation increases cortisol levels in postmenopausal women.[64]
Burnout is associated with higher cortisol levels.[65]
Subcutaneous adipose tissue regenerates cortisol from cortisone.[66]
Anorexia nervosa increases cortisol levels.[67]
The serotonin receptor gene 5HTR2C is associated with increased cortisol production in men.[68]
Some formulations of combined oral contraceptive pills increase cortisol levels in young women who perform whole-body resistance exercise training.[69]
Commuting increases cortisol levels, related to the length of the trip, the amount of effort involved and the predictability of the trip
moreVoting Question: Does taking the same amount of Zinc Magnesium and vitamin b6 together achieve same effects as ZMA?
Hey guys,
I've been reading about the benefits of ZMA supplement for body building and well being. According to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZMA_(supplement)
The proportion of ingredients generally used in products is 20-30 mg zinc, 400-500 mg magnesium and ~10mg B6.
I was wondering, instead of spending money buying the supplement, could I get away with consuming 30mg of Zinc, 300mg magnesium and 10mg of B6 as separate tablets (bought wholesale, much cheaper) at night time.
Can anyone who has experience with ZMA give me some advice?
Thanks
moreResolved Question: Can sacrificial metals prevent the rusting of an old car?
If blocks of magnesium are connected to underground pipes made of iron, the rusting of the iron is prevented because
Mg + Fe2+ ---> Fe + Mg2+
EØ = +1.94V
Does this mean that connecting pieces of magnesium to the body of an old (1988) car would prevent it from rusting? Assume the car is painted and recently waxed.
If yes, would ordinary copper wire be a suitable connector, and would small pieces (e.g. 4 x 10cm strips) of magnesium be suitable?
Please address all parts of this question to maximise your chance of being awarded BEST ANSWER.
Thank you!
moreResolved Question: which kind of magnesium to take?
I am hearing the importance of magnesium and I have several "side effects" a lack of it can generate. At the same time I am IBS affected with generally diarrhea. Yesterday I took half a tablet of magnesium oxide and I had to run to the toilet. I guess the amount is already too much for my body to absorb. I understand there are different types of Magnesium to buy (oxide, chelated, citrate, etc...): what is the best to buy that can be the best for my body? Thanks

moreResolved Question: These are the symptoms, what's wrong with me?
1. Excessive tiredness. (Even though I sleep very well for 6-8 hours a night) And when I say tiredness, I mean to the point I am falling asleep at work, on the bus etc. I mean exhausted!!!
2. No energy (as a result from being so tired). Along with this comes a total lack of concentration, can't focus, trembling hands.
3. Really dark wee, like very concentrated. (I drink around 3-4 litres of water a day and it's not normally this colour at all, usually it's very light) And fairly light poo (sorry to be gross!)
5. (This might not make sense, but I will try!) When I wee, just as I have finished and I go to pull my pants up, I need to wee again. And a trickle will come out. This process repeats until I ignore the urge to wee and just pull my pants up and have done!
6. Headaches
7. Lack of appetite. No hunger, not interested in food. I eat because I know I have to, not because my body wants it... If that makes sense.
8. Itchy little lumps on the back of my thighs. Tons of them.
Tiredness is the main problem, it's killing me.
Ok, a little info about me.
I'm fairly healthy, have a BMI of 24.5. I don't drink fizzy drinks, tea, coffee or alcohol. Diet is good EXCEPT I have a ridiculously sweet tooth, and I will have a biscuit or two at least every day. I don't do as much exercise as I should, but I have to walk a mile to work every day, and I walk my dog. I'm 20 years old.
I am on acne meds along with the contraceptive pill. No vitamins or anything because I can't have iron, zinc, selenium or magnesium with the acne meds. (Been on them about 14-15 months)
My dad has coeliacs disease (gluten free diet), my mom is lactose intolerant and I have irritable bowel syndrome. (Not been tested for coeliacs)
Reason I ask is because I don't want to go to my doctor as I am trying to get into the RAF and I don't want anything on my medical records. However, if it could be something serious I won't risk my health and I will go to the docs, but only if it could be something serious.
Any ideas of what is wrong with me???
moreVoting Question: I Need Serious Help. :(?
If you look back on my questions history, I previously posted several questions as I suffer from terrible, terrible Anxiety.
I've done counselling (Still am), Hypnotherapy, changed my lifestyle (More exercise) and I've taken St. John's Wort, Kalms and now, I'm taking Magnesium. I also went to the Doctor's a few months ago but he said because I'm only fifteen, he couldn't prescribe me Anti-Depressants as they could be addictive or make things worse.
But I don't see how it could get any worse. I feel so alien in my body, it sickens me. I hate the sensations in my body now. I also seem to be strange outside because I have a strange feeling, similar to that about myself, with my surroundings. Yesterday, I was out all day and fine but by the end of the day, I didn't feel terrible but I didn't feel comfortable in my surroundings. I was outside. I left a small party early to come home. I just feel like I'm losing the will to live.
I'm so depressed and so suicidal. I'm frightened......of death because of the idea of not knowing what would happen if I did die, but I'm willing to take that risk if if gets me out of this suffering. I've done all this and it feels no better. I've done relaxation and distraction but that barely works and if it does, it's short-term. I cannot get any of my anxieties out of my mind and I'm so upset. I hate myself and I want to die.
I'm going back to the Doctor's about this on Tuesday and I am going to mention Anti-Depressants again, as well as perhaps CBT. But I just can't keep this up. I'm fifteen and I feel terrible. Everyone's saying it's hormones, my lifestyle, school and it could be all of them but that confuses me even more. Everyone says I will wake up one day and feel better but I can't wait any longer. I feel sick constantly and I have a huge fear of vomiting, so that doesn't help me either. I'm going to ask him for Anti-Nausea tablets as well. When will this end? What can I really do that works?I can't keep relying on Herbel remedies anymore. I am so close to suicide. I'm Anemic (He sent me for a blood test the last time I told him I was anxious) and the tablets are so tempting for me. I speak to my Mum constantly and at first, she was reassuring but now she doesn't say anything except it's silly and she doesn't want to know. I want to be sectioned because I sometimes think that will help. I don't want to become agoraphobic, especially since I'm still in school. Please help! I'm at the major end of my tether and I'm trying so hard to help myself.I've also had loss in appetite and when I do eat, even if it isn't loads, I can't stop myself thinking it will make me feel bad so I feel worse afterwards. I cannot stop thinking negativly, and I'm going absolutely insane with the idea I'll never be happy again. I've stopped eating breakfast in the mornings, it's so bad. I haven't actually, god forbid, been physically sick yet at all and this has been going on since January 2007 although I didn't start being really badly affected by it until I actually started to treat it in February this year. I also have braces and they feel alien to me as well so I feel worse. :(
moreResolved Question: why does zma keep me awake?
I bought a zma supplement alot of people recommend, basically its zinc and magnesium and it helps the body grow when your asleep. Many people say it put them in deep sleeps and helped them sleep alot better as well.
I've tried them for about 2 days now and I've not slept since, first time I thought maybe I'm just not tired so I tried it again today but again I've found myself awake and its 5am now. My bodys begging for sleep but my minds in overdrive.I used to have a weird sleeping pattern due to nightshift/dayshifts but I always got my sleep at some point of the day. I'm thinking about trying this zma out once more cause everyone says its fantastic but I don't know
moreResolved Question: Coffe and magnesium deficiency.?
I've recently received results of my hair mineral analysis and it says I have decreased functionality of thyroid and adrenal glands due to very low level of Magnesium and Manganese in my body.
In the report it states, that this lack is because of stress influence and general bad diet. But I don't have any stress in life, am eating good, don't smoke and drink, no fast/frozen food etc.
I was a heavy coffee drinker though, for some time. I drank 1-2 'cups' (half pint mugs) per day, about half a year ago. Now I drink about 1-2 mugs a week. I heard one day, coffee is one of the main 'flusher' of magnesium and calcium on body.
I try to balance my diet by eating loads of nuts, vegetables etc. but still it seems it's not enough. Do I have to stop drinking coffee at all to get well? I have difficulties with sleeping (diagnosed type2 insomnia) and my bones are cracking. Calcium is also on a low level in my body. I drink milk, eat cheese, yogurts but it doesn't help. Is it because of the coffee?
moreResolved Question: Is high magnesium in food and drink bad for you?
Okay, so I am drinking this flavored water which is good for you. It is Vitamin water called NutrAqua or the other way around if you prefer. It is 24 oz. of vitamin water per bottle. I finished drinking it and saw that it contained magnesium. I looked up what magnesium means and it said it is good for you and it is also a type of thing that makes you tired and may cause you to be put out. They said it could cause you to even die, but another website I was at said that magnesium in food and drink is not bad for you because it is not the same as the magnesium in medicine. Per bottle of the vitamin water, it says that there are 60 mg of it which states it is 15% of your daily value. I don't really enjoy the taste of regular water, so I was thinking of just buying a lot of this vitamin water to get a whole bunch of water that my body needs, now I am not so sure. So, is it really bad for you in high amounts of food and drinks like Vitamin water or am I just concerned too much?

I have taken ecstasy in the past so am familiar with the feelings and experiences it gives the body. At the weekend i decided to take a herbal alternative which contained the follwoing ingredients Ketones, dicalcium, phosphate and magnesium sterate. This proceeded to give me one of the biggest highs ever, it made me feel exactly like i had taken an E. All the feelings apart from an elevated heart rate. I am just curious as to how these ingredients can do this, if it is not actually ecstasy? Its not a placebo effect as all of my freinds experienced it too, and i have heard other people say it did the same to them. What do people think, please no lectures on drugs i am fully aware of the risks, i am just interested in how this "herbal" can make me feel like i have done an E.
