Resolved Question: Opinions on buying a horse with a sore lower back?
Hello, I am looking at a horse to purchase that has some back issues. Before she was vetted, I was told she had been worked on by a massage therapist/chiropractor and was out at the hip and a few other locations along her back. The vet found her to be very sore along her back before her pelvis/hip area and expressed some concerns. She said it could be several things including: a topline that is not developed (she has not been worked regularly), a selenium and/or vitamin e deficiency, or an underlying cause (she didn't feel any problems with the spine). She also said the mare moves very nicely nice without visual signs of pain. Her concerns were that even with time building up a topline and giving her proper nutrition there is a chance we may never make her back comfortable and pain issues could show up with regular riding (bucking, balking, etc). My question is, does anyone have experience with a similar situation? Successful or not? This will be my first horse after many years of riding, and while I did not expect my horse to be "perfect" the back issue has me worried! I plan on working her slowly to build up muscle and of course encouraging her to self-carry. I would be using her for dressage and jumping. Thank you for your time and suggestions! moreResolved Question: About Feeding Baby Tegus...?
Now the specific breed I am talking about is an Argentine Black and White Tegu. I researched about them hours upon hours on end. Now, I understand that babies prefer crickets, worms and mice etc etc. However, can their diet consist of bread, lots of fruit mixed with meat (like humans eat but raw) and some added supplements? My dad said Absolutely NO insects (I don't blame him) and no rodents (ehhhhhh~ I personally dont mind feeding them that but w/e). I plan on giving them (obviously small portions cut up) fish, fruit, bread, eggs, meat {Chicken/Turkey}, and beans(?) I know its bad to give it too much at a time but I wrote out my feeding schedule for it so don't worry about the fact when Im giving them the food. I am afraid of protein deficiency for this diet. I plan to add its vitamins twice a week. What do you guys think? Also, any advice on some good protein I can give the Tegu without the exceptions of insects and rodents? Adding vitamins every day isn't recommended. moreVoting Question: anyone has quick Peripheral Neuropathy pain relief for toes.?

How to Give vitamins to Chickens? Calcium. Calcium is needed by laying hens to form strong, sturdy eggshells. Hens without proper amounts of calcium lay thin-shelled eggs, or eggs with no shell at all! The amount of calcium a hen needs varies with her age, diet, health, breed, and size. Older hens need more calcium than their younger counterparts, and hens in hot weather need extra calcium concentrations in their feed since they are eating less due to the heat and might not be getting all the calcium they need. Since eggshells consist mostly of calcium carbonate, oyster shells and ground up limestone are good sources of supplementary calcium. Make sure you are not purchasing dolomite limestone, since this is harmful to egg production! Salt. Be extremely careful when giving chickens this occasionally fatal supplement! Most feeds have sufficient amounts of salt, so supplements of this should not be needed. Although minute amounts of salt are vital for a chicken's health, too much salt given to a flock when there is not enough water available can be poisonous. In warm weather, be sure that water dishes remain full, and in winter make sure that water does not freeze (or remove salt supplements from feed). Phosphorous. This supplement is needed so that the chickens can metabolize calcium (and calcium is likewise needed for the proper digestion of phosphorous). Range fed chickens do get phosphorus from beetles, but they probably don't get enough. Grit. Since chickens don't have any teeth, this important supplement is needed for proper digestion. Grit is usually sold as small pebbles or large grains of sand. These hard objects are eaten by the chickens and lodged in their gizzard. When grains, grass, and other fibrous/hard vegetation are eaten, it passes through the rocks in the gizzard where it is ground up between the stone (much like teeth). Grit should always be available, even if you're not feeding the flock heavily with grains and vegetables. Free-ranged chickens shouldn't need this supplement. Vitamin D. This vitamin is related to the assimilation of calcium and phosphorus and is needed for proper egg production. Deficiencies cause weak, thin eggshells. Vitamin D is found in cod liver oil and plenty of sunlight. Although this is a crucial vitamin, you shouldn't need to feed extra amounts unless your chickens aren't getting enough via sunlight or their feed. Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for good hatch-ability and chick viability (attention chicken breeders!). It comes from fresh grass and other vegetation, yellow corn, and cod liver oil. Most feeds include proper amounts of this. Riboflavin. This is one of the B vitamins and is often deficient in normal poultry feeds. If you are a breeder, deficiency of this vitamin causes embryo death during the early stages of incubation. This important vitamin is found in dairy products, yeast, liver, and plenty of leafy green vegetables. Vitamin E. Needed for proper health and protection from diseases, vitamin E is found in fresh greens, wheat germ oil, and whole grains (such as oats, corn, wheat, barley, etc.) As you can see, the majority of the vitamins needed by chickens are found in sunlight and fresh greens. This is why free ranged chickens (or chickens in confined-free-range-systems) are so healthy. Plenty of clean air, fresh food, sunlight, and green veggies along with a few choice supplements should keep your chickens living as long as Methuselah! Not only are many elderly people below the recommended intake for calcium (elderly people need 1200 mg/daily), but they also have inadequate vitamin D intake. Which of the following statements about calcium and/or D deficiencies are true? A) Many elderly people don't drink milk; and D-fortified milk is one of the best food sources for D (and an excellent source of calcium). B) Many elderly are house-bound, or confined to nursing homes, and don't get out of the house often enough to get adequate exposure to sunlight to make vitamin D. C) Many elderly have diminished appetites, and don't eat enough to meet their intake needs (even if they do consume fortified milk or other fortified foods). D) Aging skin is thinner, and is less able to synthesize vitamin D than younger skin, so even if they are getting sun exposure, elderly people may still not make enough vitamin D to meet needs. This is how it would pan out: After breakfast: Two omega 3 capsules and my multivitamin. After lunch: Two omega 3 capsules, Vitamin A capsule and Zinc pill. After afternoon snack: One omega 3 capsule and Vitamin E capsule. Can anyone tell me if there will be any absorption problems between the supplements? And if there will be any overdose or deficiency problems as a result of taking more of these specific supplements? moreResolved Question: Tingling in all parts of my body, not just hands and feet!?
Hi, I am currently undergoing lots of tests and seeing a neurologist. Before i receive my real answers from a neuro, i would just like a few of you guys to tell me what you think. Ok so i get tingling in my legs, arms, torso-"ribs, hips stomach", i also get it sometimes on my face and scalp. Can someone run off a list of diseases, disorders or syndrome's that can cause symptoms of tingling in all parts of the body, not just hands and feet or legs and arms. I already know that MS "multiple sclerosis" can do this so please don't mention that one. I was hoping it was something simple like a vitamin deficiency but most of them seem to only affect your fingers and toes/arms/legs. e.g "hypocalcemia" (low calcium) this vitamin deficiency causes fingers and feet/toes tingling, but not all over tingling. I do not have diabetes I do not have a thyroid problem I do not have HIV or any other STD's that cause tingling. I am a 20 year old female. Please help! This essay is about Golden Rice : Rice that can solve the nutritional problems in many developing countries and that would be virtually free for the consumers? Could this be true? Golden rice is a genetically engineered crop that is supposed to be the answer for vitamin-A deficiencies in humans. But is this miracle rice really what it is all cracked up to be? benefits of Golden rice really outweigh the cost, the health and environmental risks, and the social problems that come along with it? Each year more than one million vitamin-A deficiency associated childhood deaths occur. According to the World Health Organization, as many as 230 million children are at risk of clinical or sub-clinical vitamin A deficiency, or VAD, a conditional that is largely preventable. “VAD makes children ‘especially’vulnerable to infections and worsens the course of many infections”; it is the single most important cause of blindness among children of developing countries. VAD usually occurs in India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippians, where rice is a staple food because normal rice grains do not contain beta-carotene, which can help prevent it. When researches led by Ingo Potrykus at the Swiss Federal Institute figured out how to get rice to produce beta-carotene, which the body turns into vitamin A, it appeared to be the answer people had been looking for to help solve nutritional problems around the world. To produce Golden Rice, researchers genetically engineered a laboratory variety of japonica rice. Japonica rice is adapted to temperate weather in Europe. They inserted three foreign genes into the rice: one from the bacterium Erwinia uredover and two from daffodils. Adding the beta-carotene to the rice turns it yellow, hence the name Golden Rice. The researchers claimed that this miracle Golden Rice was going to solve the world's VAD problems and the malnutrition of the world. Malnutrition is generally extremely high in rice-eating populations. But, these people's malnourishment is not directly due to the consumption of rice (Comstock, 2002). How much vitamin A a person can absorb depends on their overall nutrition, which includes adequate amounts of proteins, vitamin E, zinc, and fats. Fat and oil are necessary in the process of changing pro-vitamin A to vitamin A that is used in the body. Zinc insufficiency may lead to an impairment of vitamin A metabolism. Many people, who are suffering from vitamin A deficiency, are also experiencing generalized protein-energy malnutrition and intestinal infections that greatly interfere with the absorption and the conversion of beta-carotene to vitamin A (Brown, 2001). Even Dr. Ingo Potrykus has admitted that there is not one published study that proves that the human body can convert the beta-carotene in genetically engineered rice to vitamin A. Furthermore, Golden Rice appears likely to generate only a fraction of the additional vitamin A intake it initially promised. A report by the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine states that a 4-year old would have to eat 54 bowls of Golden Rice each day to get all the vitamin A in the recommended daily allowance. An adult would need to eat 10 pounds of rice a day. Gordon Conway, a spokesperson for the Rockefeller Foundation, who was financially supporting the study of Golden Rice, in a rebuttal of a statement by a campaigner against GM foods, stated that, "[Golden Rice] provides and excellent complements to fruits, vegetables, and animal products in diets and to various fortified foods and vitamin supplements." Golden Rice is an unstable construct; it is made up of a combination of genes and genetic material from viruses and bacteria, much that are associated with diseases in plants, and from other non-food species. To construct it, it is spliced into an artificial vector that is made from genetic parasites that are inside of cells. The vector used in Golden Rice is derived from the 'T-DNA,' which is part of the tumor-inducing genetic parasite of Agrobacterium, a soil bacterium. The genetic parasite, or plasmid, invades plant cells, inserting the T-DNA into the cell genome, causing the cell to develop into a tumor or gall. I previously was in an accident where a four-wheeler crushed my leg, and landed on my back. & Then suffered from a very bad Staph Infection for about 5 months. I've had the nerves and muscles in my legs tested, an MRI on my entire spine, an ultrasound on my left leg (the one impacted by the accident and the staph), and blood tests for vitamin deficiencies and anemia. All tests came back normal. If you have any clue as to what would be wrong with me, it would help loads. It'd be nice if I had some ideas for the doctors to look into. Thanks in advance, -HollyNicole.I've had my blood cell count checked, I've had my nerves checked, and there is a damaged one, but they are almost positive that's not causing it. And wouldn't the vertebra thing show up on an MRI on my spine? Because I've had that too, and it came back normal. Is there any way you can test for it at home? or must you visit your GP?
I went to the doctor's several months ago, with regards to small persistant cuts at the corners of my mouth (angular cheilitis). The doctor said it could possibly be a vitamin deficiency or perhaps something more serious, but he advised me to keep taking my multi-vitamin as he didn't think anything else was likely. My mum is anaemic, and my dad was as well (although he has recently had his iron levels checked and they were ok). I have been reading up on the net, as these cuts still keep reappearing, and in addition to that, I also have dark circles under my eyes, and am sometimes bothered with tiredness - both of which are additional symptoms to anaemia. I also have quite heavy periods. I don't like bothering the doctor in case I'm just being my usual hyperchondriac (i.e. I don't want to go to him and announce that I think I'm anaemic & have diagnosed myself). I'm just wondering if it is any more likely that I might have it due to my parents both having it. moreResolved Question: I thought Canola Oil was the healthiest oil to use?
