Avoiding an iron deficiency? moreOpen Question: Hair loss and medicines?
My friend started losing her hair in November 2008. This wasn't bald patches, but general hairloss all over. She had been Lansoprazole 30mg tablets for about 2 years with no problems. She stopped using them for 11 months, in case the problem with her hair resulted from the tablets, but her hair continued to fall out throughout these months. In October 2009, she began to use the tablets again. 3 weeks later, her hair ceased falling out for 6 months, but now, has again started to fall out again in the last 3 months (May 2010). Could the tablets have anything to do with this, as it is a rare side effect of them? Also, she saw a doctor in February 2009. She was told that she suffers from chronic telogen effluvium related to nutritional problems and low iron. After taking iron supplements, her iron levels have become better. Her ferritin is now 50 mg, a rise from 21. Could the hair loss still be related to iron deficiency, despite being higher? An answer to both of these questions would be useful. By the way, she is 49. moreOpen Question: Why is my friend losing her hair?

I take iron supplements to treat my iron deficiency anemia and recently started taking children's calcium gummy bear vitamins. I read the label of the gummy vitamins and it didn't say there was iron in it (at least I didn't see) but I'm still kind of worried. lol I'm 16 years old so the children's vitamins probably don't do much but still.Shoot, I accidentally put this in the wrong category. :\ moreOpen Question: Waking up with the taste of blood?
This morning I woke up with a strong taste of blood in my mouth and there was dried blood around my lips. I rinsed out my mouth and looked for anything that could be causing this but I couldn't find anything. This has never happened before. What could be causing this? I was recently told I have an iron deficiency, so perhaps that has something to do with it? Other then that, I'm healthy moreOpen Question: Question about my "iron-deficiency anemia"?
my doctor said my iron levels were extremely low so i'm taking iron pills for 6 weeks and going back for more blood work. it's been 5 weeks now and i feel like i'm even MORE tired than before! is this possible? she said that if my iron levels weren't up next time then we'd "see what's going on"...i guess my question is, if my iron isn't up, what could it be? i've had my thyroid and most of my major organs checked before so i don't even know.. any ideas? i'm a 20 yr old girl *i also have random joint pain all over (not serious), weakness, headaches, trouble concentrating, constant fatigue, shortness of breath, dizzy/lightheaded moreResolved Question: Do i have anemia, if so what type?
i don't know if i have anemia or not. im 14 and i have a lot of the symptoms like-really rapid heart rate/irregular heart beat, im pale, even if i go out in the sun a lot, low blood pressure, poor circulation, i get nauseous in the morning(but im definitely not pregnant!!) and pretty much all the symptoms here: http://www.ehow.com/how_5436_know-you-are.html. and here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/iron-deficiency-anemia/DS00323/DSECTION=symptoms but i don't have some of the symptoms like pica, or upturned nails. also i occasionally have these pains in the middle of my chest-in between my rib cage-but these pains can also be symptoms of indigestion or panic/anxiety attacks(cuz i have anxiety problem apparently) and ive been having memory problems you could kinda say, it happens almost daily, i talking to someone and all of a sudden i forget the subject we're talking about. idk what that means but it could also be a symptom of my minor ADHD. but anywho, if i do have anemia, could you tell me what type-like iron and etc. and how i can make sure that i do without having to go to the doctor? I've been to the doctor and he said that it might be iron deficiency or a lack of water. I've been drinking a lot of water but it hasn't helped. My blood sugar levels are fine. I take in more iron but I still feel dizzy. I haven't got any ear problems. What can I do to stop this? It's more of a unbalance thing rather that dizziness. It's like I'm moving when I'm sitting down. Can you please help me? I've suffered with it for the last 3 years. As I said, it's more of a unbalance thing. moreOpen Question: I have hypothyroidism and I'm also iron deficient but my meds give me a sick headache?
I'm unsure if it's the Eutroxsig or the Ferro-tab or the combination of both but when I take them I gradually get so sick I that I have to take two strong pain killers and spray sinus spray up my nose. I have been doing highlights in my hair every two months for three years and only a year now I started dying them to gradually darken them from blonde to light chocolate brown. I have a haircut every two months about 3-4cm off the entire hair and I have my hair layered. I have recently observed though that I lose a whole brush of hair every time I wash them and whilst the roots are always oily no matter what products I use in the ends they are so dry they can't even be blow dried. I use a nivea straightening serum for the ends and an anti-frizz leave-in cream right after I shower and let my hair dry naturally. What products do you recommend I use for my hair? Do you think that any of the above might have to do with my hair loss (i have no other condition that could affect that like iron deficiency and take vitamin supplements regularly)? Do you think I should change haircut? Finally I heard about a treatment called brazilian keratin do you think it would be any good for my hair or would it make the hair loss worse? moreVoting Question: My 1 year old has an iron deficiency and the doctor said to give her 30mg of ferrous sulphate twice a day.?
To make a long story short, we couldn't find a supplement for her needs. The pharmacists said that a Flintstones vitamin with iron would probably be more than enough for her, but I'm curious and want to know how much ferrous sulphate is in 15mg of iron? moreVoting Question: Solution for severe undereye circles?
severe undereye circles? I'm 21 but I have really bad dark circles under my eyes due to heredity and chronic iron-deficiency anemia. I've tried quite a few products and NOTHING seems to work at all! Also, I have no puffiness..in fact my undereyes are slightly sunken bc of high cheekbones. Anywho, does anyone have any (preferably cheaper) solutions that ACTUALLY work?!? moreResolved Question: Help people that are good at Physics! Pleaseeeeeeee?
I need someone to read the two summarys & answer the questions. I want to see if they match mines. Please, thank you. Scientist 1: The atmosphere of the Earth was at one time almost totally lacking in oxygen. One piece of evidence supporting this assertion is the very fact that life got started at all. The first chemical reactions that are necessary for the origin of life, the formation of amino acids, require ultraviolet light. Most of the ultraviolet light coming from the sun is now absorbed by oxygen in the atmosphere. If there were as much oxygen in the atmosphere then as now there have been too little ultraviolet light available to enable life to begin. Also, the oldest bacteria, the ones that have the shortest DNA, are almost all anaerobes - they either do not need oxygen or die if exposed to oxygen. Most of the oxygen that exists now entered the atmosphere later from volcanic fumes. Scientist 2: The prevailing opinion is that the atmosphere, though thicker now than it was in the past, is not essentially different in composition. The argument that the Earth must originally have been deficient in oxygen is flawed. First of all, the presence of iron and other oxides in the rocks from this time indicates that there was oxygen available. Secondly, the requirement for a great deal of ultraviolet light holds only if there is a low concentration of the starting materials in the water. If the water in some prehistoric lake began to freeze, the starting materials would be concentrated in a small volume of unfrozen water. The high concentration of the starting materials would offset the so-called deficiency of ultraviolet light, and life could begin. ..Question 1 According to the hypothesis of Scientist 1, which of the following would have been among the last living things to evolve? Choose one answer. a. Insects b. Viruses c. Plants d. Anaerobes ..Question 2 Marks: 1 According to the information presented by Scientist 1, if his theory of the origin of oxygen in the atmosphere is correct, the total amount of oxygen in the air over the next million years, on the average, should: Choose one answer. a. increase b. decrease c. decrease, then increase d. increase, then decrease ..Question 3 Marks: 1 Underlying the argument of Scientist 2 is the assumption that the oxygen in the oxides in the rocks was: Choose one answer. a. proportional to the oxygen in the atmosphere at the time b. involved in biological reactions c. all gaseous during the early days of the atmosphere d. always tied up in the rocks ..Question 4 Underlying Scientist 1's suggestion that the evolutionary record supports the idea of oxygen deficiency on the early Earth is the assumption that the oldest living things: Choose one answer. a. have the most fragmented DNA b. have the shortest DNA c. must have died out d. have changed radically ..Question 5 Which of the following is the strongest argument Scientist 1 could use to counter Scientist 2's suggested mechanism for the origin of life? Choose one answer. a. Chemical reactions occured differently then b. There was not enough ultraviolet light available c. The temperature at the surface of the Earth at that time was always above 35 degrees Celsius because of geothermal heat release d. Most lakes would not have covered large enough areas to guarantee that all the essential building blocks were present ..Question 6 To refute Scientist 1's hypothesis, Scientist 2 might best show that: Choose one answer. a. there are ways of making the biologically important molecules without ultraviolet light b. the amount of oxide in rocks has changed little over the past four billion years c. the atmospheric pressure has not changed over the Earth's history d. there are complex anaerobic bacteriaThank you Chris! Jesus! moreResolved Question: Really bad period pains?
Hiya, I highly doubt I'm going to get anything new out of this... but I figured I'd try and hope for the best (: It's horrific. Honestly, it's not just me being a sissy.. it's much worse than any time I've ever gotten food poisoning, or sick... it's probably one of the worst pains i've ever felt in my life. I get headaches, horrible nausea, and *really* bad cramps. I get stuck in the tub (I take baths when it gets bad, for the hot water), for hours because I'm not able to stand up or walk due to the pain. Pain killers (such as ibuprofen), don't work. Neither does peppermint, or protein... I use heat a lot (either taking a hot bath, or applying a hot pack), which helps a little. Midol doesn't work, nor exercise (most of the time that's not any sort of option either). I've tried aromatherapy, changing my diet before/during my period to leave out caffeine (which I've heard can aggravate cramps), and large amounts of sugar or salt. I've tried teas, different natural remedies, like putting blackstrap molasses in water with some honey to make a tea, which does help a little with cramps/feeling weak/iron/calcium deficiency from losing blood, but doesn't help now that the pain is getting worse. I'm also taking oral contraceptives to help with lighter/shorter periods, but that hasn't helped either. The good thing about them is that im taking a kind which is safe to control periods with, so I only have a period every 3 months now... The problem is, even with this the pain is unbearable, and i'm unable to function enough to go to work, do anything mentally, or really do much of anything besides wait it out. Do you have any ideas or things I haven't tried? I'd really appreciate it... right now the people close to me are worried I might have Endemetriosis...which I don't really want to think about. Thanks...and i'm sorry for writing so much. =)Yes, you put a teaspoon or more of blackstrap molasses in hot-warm water. If you don't like the bitterness, you can add honey. It makes a tea by itself, really..not literally, but not sure what else you could call it (: Blackstrap molasses is full of calcium, and iron... and you lose a lot of iron with blood, so it helps so you don't feel so weak/lightheaded from blood loss. It's also really good for growing pains because of the calcium... (: moreVoting Question: Why is my poop skinny?
About a month ago i started having extreme abdominal pain, which came and wen but seemed to be present especially and hour after eating. I went to my doctor, where they did bloodwork and found that i was only just slightly anemic with iron deficiency. Weeks later while my pain had somewhat dulled, i started having other symptoms such as nausea, the feeling that I was going to vomit (although i never did), muscle weakness, and a lot of anxiety. I also was barely going to the bathroom and when i did my bowel movement came out in clumps. I went back to my doctor who prescribed me with a medication for acid reflux as well as put my on a great dose of laxative. I followed the laxative for the first 2 days and started having diarrhea, which i was told was expected. I cut down the laxative below what my doctor recommended because i was having trouble drinking all the fluid that was needed to consume the laxative with. Now my bowel movement is extremely soft, a very light brown color, and much skinnier than a normal bowel movement. While not as skinny as a pencil, it seems to be maybe a 1/2 inch in diameter. Could this be a sign of a tumor? Please Help!Well the pain was always in the lower abdomen and occasionally i felt it on my lower sides and lower back. Rarely did any pain reach my chest area. Since i've been on the laxative the pain has been significantly reduced. My main concern now is my bowel movement. moreResolved Question: what are the chances of me getting pregnant?
I have a lot of medical problems. I have iron deficiency anemia. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditos. I do have irregular and heavy menstrual periods. And about 4 years ago they found a cyst on one of my ovaries. Non cancerous BTW. I'm not on the pill. I used to be. And I think I have endometriosis. My boyfriend and I have sex sometimes 3 times a week. Maby more. He never use a condom, we use the "pull out" method. He always pees before we decide to have sex the second time, but he didn't twice. I'm 19m and so is he. I'm late for my period. It was suppose to start friday and its now monday. I took an EPT test and it was neg. Am I even fertile? What are the chances of me getting pregnant? moreResolved Question: Progressive vs Aggressive: Progheads or Metalheads.. whose more Elitist?
Ahhh... bet ya thought I was gonna leave out Metalheads in some elitist bid to ignore the deficiencies displayed by some those who listen to my preferred form of auditory therapy. Well, you not know me so well, LOL. MQ- Metal-Heads or Prog-Heads... who takes the brass ring for insular musical tendencies? MQ2- Do you prefer Prog, Metal... or Prog Metal? MQ4- Are Proggies truly the intellectuals they think , or are they the pseudo intellectual snake oil salesman of the music world? =P BQ- Favorite Prog influenced Metal album (by a Non Prog band, such as Iron Maiden)? BQ2- Favorite Metal influenced Prog album (by a NON Metal band.)? **Disclaimer... this. like my previous question is not meant as an insult to either group, but something of a pointed commentary aimed at the vocal minorities of each sub-culture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahtTVqdAYso@At Jerry.. I suppose you have never heard the expression "Living on an island" which refers to being cut off from outside influences? .. Hence.. the use of the term in this context. I'm severely anemic and need to sleep about 16 hours a day, if i don't i feel so ill, i will be really dizzy and just will not function at all. Thing is, my school day is 8:00am till 4:00pm, its an hour there walking and an hour back. i just cannot cope with it. I constantly feel REALLY ill and dizzy. Its an iron deficiency, no matter what i do i cannot get iron into my body. Ive had it for 3 years now and i am being 'treated' for it, but tbh in the 3 years everythings just got worse.. I can't get a doctors appointment for another 3 weeks which is STUPID. I cannot cope. if i bring this up with one of my teachers what do you think they will say about it? I'm doing my GCSEs + a diploma so i really cannot miss out! :/ its making me really depressed and stressed, sometimes i just want to kill myself because its so hard to cope with everything. My doctor has change my diet many times to try and get my iron levels up, nothing works.. I eat healthy & i do eat meat moreVoting Question: Do I have iron deficiency Anemia again?
I use to be really anemic this time last year but got treated for it (iron pills) I cant remember all the symptoms i had but lately iv been feeling exhausted, weak, had a really bad stomach cramp during my period and feeling a little ill. I also had some sort of stomach bug a week before this kicked it. Does anyone else think im anemic again???? moreResolved Question: How long does hypothyroidism take to manifest?
Twice I have tested low on my TSH levels, the later test involving both T3 and T4. My doctor now sent me a prescription for synthroid a few days ago that I have yet to fill. The only reason I even had my thyroid checked in the beginning was because of some infection they thought my toe had that really wasn't that bad and the antibiotics ended up making me feel worse because they were too strong, which is a whole 'nother story. I've had a few CBCs, but I guess that doesn't indicate thyroid function because they never told me anything. I know what the symptoms are for hypothyroidism, but I don't have any of them. I mean, yeah I'm sleepy or drowsy when I get less than 7-8 hrs sleep and I do have iron deficiency anemia which could be the cause of that. I get hot or cold when it is truly hot or cold and everyone else feels it. My hair and nails continue to grow without abandon and my skin is not pale (I'm tan) or flaky, although it may be dry from time to time because I have had eczema all my life. So if I actually did have hypthyroidism would I know it right off or would it take some time? If anything, I would have HYPERthyroidism as I only weigh around 125-130 lbs and 5'7". I'm freakin skinny! In the meantime I'm taking an herbal supplement my mom already had in the cabinet that is kelp and alfalfa that has 100% DV iodine. IDK how much good that'll do since I don't feel symptoms anyway. moreResolved Question: First Response negative both times, could I still be pregnant?
I took first response twice and got negative both times. My period is very delayed and is because I stopped taking the pill about a month ago my doctor said that happens. We still have been using protection. For the last couple of days I've been feeling very dizzy and have sharp pains that come and go in my uterus, like if I was about to get my period but I don't get it. I have have also been nauseous about three times but never really threw up. Am I worrying too much about this? My friend said it could be potassium deficiency and Web MD says it could be a million things (including pregnancy and iron deficiency) I was pregnant about a year ago and I got positive right away and even though I had a miscarriage I feel the same symptoms I am feeling now. Could I possibly be pregnant even thought we used protection and the test are negative???oh and by the way the one time that even tho he used a condom he was a bit afraid because there was some leakage so I took the Plan B pill... moreResolved Question: I think this might be iron deficiency anemia?
I was beginning to get worried about how sallow and pale I am, and stumbled across a webpage about iron deficiency anemia. I saw myself in there-- pale, heavy menstrual periods, constantly cold feet, and my strange habit of eating my own hair and crunching ice. I'm definitely seeing a doctor, but I would like some opinions on if you think this is serious, or just normal. moreResolved Question: Can anemia iron deficiency cause darkened vision?
For some reason my eyesight seems darker, I don't know if it is my imagination because I've been eating a lot of sweets lately and scared about diabetes. Also, I haven't been taking my iron supplements lately. So can anemia cause darkened vision? Or is it just my imagination? moreVoting Question: Why am I tired and get headaches all the time?
It's been going on for over 7 months now. Back then I even got tested at the doctor for mono, anemia, iron deficiency etc... and all the other basic blood tests they do and found nothing.... I started exercising everyday too and it doesn't help. I sleep 9 hours every night, I eat healthy and try to eat every food group and don't drink caffeine or eat a lot of sweets. I'm like 5 3 and weigh about 100 pounds and everytime I go to the doctor they say I'm healthy! Helppppp, It's hard to function and get through college like this! moreVoting Question: I am on iron but I am still tired all the time, how come?
I have iron deficiency anemia and take iron but I am still tired all the time. I have also been eating more lately, so I should really be having MORE energy. Even on days that I do nothing after being awake for just 6 hours I am ready for a nap or to go to bed or something. Is it possible that I have another type of anemia or some other sickness? I do not have mono, I know that, could there be anything else? Should I ask the doctor if there is anything else they can test for, or just accept that I am very anemic? moreResolved Question: Constantly REALLY dizzy?
Okay, for about two weeks now I've been feeling dizzy every single day. Some days it's worse but it never goes away. It's like the room is spinning and I get headaches and start getting scared I'm going to faint or something, even though I never do. The only thing I could think it would be is that two weeks ago on saturday I spent the night at a friend's house and they smoked weed...I didn't but I was in the same room as them and there was a towel under the door so no fresh air could get in. It did start I think the day after or the next, but it hasn't stopped. I've been trying to live my life, and have been going outside to hang with friends, going back to school shopping, but at points I'm afraid I'll have to go home because of it but I ignore it and it stops for a little while sometimes and other times I have to go home and rest. Here is information about me if it would help: I'm 13, female, 103 pounds, 5 foot 2 inches. I have been a vegetarian for three years so if it's something to do with that (I've read about iron deficiency anemia) wouldn't it have happened already? I've had dizzy spells before but not constant like this. I do limit my food a lot but I do eat, so I'm not anorexic or anything. I can't go to the doctor or get a blood test or anything. It's out of the question. My dad doesn't have the money to "waste" on finding out I'm perfectly fine because I have been told by a doctor before that I have an anxiety disorder and because I freak out a lot he no longer believes me when I say I don't feel well. Please give me advice on what to do! Could I be dehydrated or something serious? Or is it something as simple as being on the computer too long (I'm on the computer almost all day everyday except for a few days out of the week). It's literally like the room is spinning whenever I move my head most of the time. Thanks (: moreResolved Question: vitamins for deficiencies in pregnancy.. Can they make your stomach unsettled?
I am currently 31 weeks and for the last two weeks have needed to take iron tablets due to anemia and then I had to start taking vitamin D tablets for low vit D too. My midwife said to take 2 iron tablets, 1 vit D tablet and a pregnancy multivitamin a day, but since I have been taking all of them my stomach seems quite unsettled. I am not actually vomiting but I just feel like there is always something just sitting there. It has only started happening since taking the tablets. Before that I was taking folate daily and that never did anything bad. Anywho... Do any of those tablets or combos of them cause anyone else to have an unsettled stomach? moreResolved Question: Could I be anemic again?
I was diagnosed with anemia when I was around 5 years old. I took vitamins for iron daily but stopped after awhile. I think I was fine afterward because the doctors had never said anything about my iron again. Well I became a vegetarian like 2 weeks ago (I doubt I can have iron deficiency this soon so I'm thinking maybe it was like this before) but I've been taking vitamins for iron since then. I think I may be anemic, but really I'm not sure. I'm 13 years old by the way. My symptoms: Dizziness (not THAT often. Just sometimes) Pale skin (I've been pale all my life although. I don't tan. Maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I think I've been looking paler lately) Loss of energy My hands and feet are cold 90% of the time I have dark circles under my eyes ._. When I get tired my head feels too heavy. Like it's too heavy for my neck. It's difficult for me to fall asleep and once I do I sleep too long My muscles ache a lot It's hard for me to concentrate on people when they are talking. I end up saying "what?" because I didn't hear anything they said. I had these symptoms before I became a vegetarian and I'm just starting to be concerned about it.Oh also, I've had a loss of appetite moreResolved Question: Passing out/fainting from iron deficiency anemia?
I am 26 weeks pregnant and found out that I have anemia (from iron deficiency). I have uterus didelphys which means I have two uterus' and menstruate twice as much as a normal woman (losing more blood, iron, etc). I have had a problem since I started having periods with fainting/passing out. I do not loose consciousness. It starts with feeling really hot and I turn pale then my hearing starts to fade out, then my vision goes and after that my whole body collapses. My hearing does not completely go away, I can hear faintly like I am under water/need to pop my ears/etc. My eye sight completely goes away, total darkness. I am aware of what is going on but have no strength and it feels like my entire body just gave up except my mind. After a few minutes, I am perfectly fine. This happens while I am on my period, while I am not on my period and has happened while I was pregnant (earlier in the pregnancy). It only occurs maybe 6 times a year, if that. Anyways, could this be because of anemia or something worse? Has this happened to anyone else? I still get very, very tired at points during the day and seem to be sleeping way more than I should be but I am sooo tired. I know most of it is probably pregnancy but I usually don't even have enough strength to take care of my pets, myself, etc. I do go to work but only three days a week and for 5 hours each day. This wears me out and I tend to sleep for the rest of the day and night after work (I babysit). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. What kind of doctor could I talk to this about? moreResolved Question: are these signs of developing iron defiency anemia?
i recently cut eating ALL meat out of my diet. and i haven't ever been a fan of milk or cheese alone. its been 12 weeks and i have been feeling different. i'm also a little worried because i stopped eating meat and i'm a 12 year old girl, currently going through growth spurts and puberty. my symptoms- bad headaches, always tired (fatigue), short blackouts maybe 5 seconds long, usually as i love the cold and cant get enough of it, it now bothers me and i have to turn off my ac. shortness of breath sometimes. and i looked online on one of the answered questions and it said a test to see if you have iron deficiency anemia is to pull your lower eye lid down. and if the color was the same as your skin you have I.D. anemia and if they are red your not. most of my lower lid is the same color as my skin color, and a small rim of red left, lining the edge of the lid closest your bottom lashes.thanks for the sites to check out. and the comment about the dietician. i have to talk to my parents .. of course about taking me therei also forgot anxiety, and especially at night trouble sleeping. it gets frusturating and i start to cry sometimes. i have wierd mood siwngs and might get mad or depressed and cry for no reason moreVoting Question: Overcoming social anxiety?
Back in March of 2010 I got really sick with a combination of many things (sinus infection, bronchitis, iron-deficiency anemia, loss of blood, stomach bug, etc.) and caused me to be very weak and nauseous all of the time. This lasted until mid-May. I went to the doctor many times and got many procedures done. Around the middle of May it seemed as I had nothing medically wrong with me however I was still feeling sick all of the time. My doctor thinks that because I was sick so long I developed a case of hypochondria. He has prescribed me medicines such as Paxil (which did not work at all) and Propranolol which worked better than paxil but it still hasn't cured me. Whenever I am going on a date or out with friends, I start to feel nauseous. I am convinced that there is nothing medically wrong with me but I am very tired of feeling this way. I am only 20 and before all of this happened I was extremely social and loved going out but now I get sick at the mere thought of going out. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone have any advice?? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! moreResolved Question: Is there any risk in taking 83 mg of iron extra per day?
I -think- I have an iron deficiency, I'm not sure. But I started taking an iron supplement (65 mg), plus vitamins (+18 mg) a day. Is there such thing as too much iron a day? Are there any negatives? Ty! moreVoting Question: How long does it take for Iron supplements to take affect?
I have been told I have an iron deficiency by my GP (I had a blood test). I'm not anaemic and my haemoglobin levels are OK, but since I am constantly tired, lethargic and suffer other symptoms of an iron deficiency as well as the blood test I have been put on 210mg of Ferrous Fumarate (Iron) for 6 months. I am supposed to take 2 a day unless I feel sick then I would need to lower that to 1 a day. I think the only reason I have this is because I rarely eat iron rich foods. I don't have heavy periods, in fact they're relatively light. I have no ulcers or anything else that could explain it. I regularly get cuts in the corners of my mouth that take a while to go which is caused by an iron deficiency too. My question is, how long will it be until I start to feel the affects of the drug and start to feel "normal" again? Even a rough estimate would be helpful. My body measurements are below in case this helps too. Height: 5'3 inches Weight: 55kg/8.5 stone Body frame: slim If you need to know anything else, please do ask! Thanks :) moreResolved Question: Do you think I have iron deficiency?

The only time I have any milk during the day, is a bowl of it in the morning with my cereal, and occasionally have it with hot chocolate or tea, so maybe it could be a lack of calcium...but otherwise, my nails are really long and strong, my teeth are i good condition, and my hair is thick, although i have a lot of split ends......so I'm not sure... I've heard it could be zinc or an iron deficiency? What's the cause and how can i easily and effectively get rid of them? moreResolved Question: Im so tired and have a lack of energy all the time?

For low cases of things how long until normal?
Hi everyone! I had to have a blood test a couple of weeks ago due to telling my midwife I wanted to eat chalk and laundry powder (I didn't though). As amused as she was she also knew that it was probably a deficiency. I got a call from her saying it was iron amemia and that my vitamin D levels were also low, so she has asked me to take 2 iron tablets a day and also a vitamin D tablet as well as the normal multivitamin for pregnancy. I wish it wasn't winter so I could be in the sun more & not get rained on. Anywho, how long does it take to make the levels better? I have also adjusted my diet to have higher levels of these things in them, although I do have a fairly high diet of these things anyway but obviously not enough, especially with this baby. Thanks :) Can anyone tell me some of the negatives for having things low in these areas? I might have had these deficiencies for a long time throughout this pregnany because they weren't tested until 28 weeks, will that effect the baby at all? I am currently 30 weeks now (due to be tested again in a few weeks to recheck levels). moreResolved Question: When do you know that you have a?
iron deficiency ? Because it feels like I am out of breath and I haven't been eat much., Only 3 meals a day. moreResolved Question: Do you think I am anemic?
I've been vegetarian for 5 years, and I'm so tired and I feel really weak all the time. I get home and go to bed at 4pm, and though I wake up throughout the night. I used to be kind of tanned naturally all year round, but now I'm this weird pale yellowish blotchy colour (it's not jaundice, I don't think, because the whites of my eyes are very white & pale). I get quite a lot of headaches and I get really dizzy quite a lot. My gums are a light pink when they used to be darker. I crave ice like you wouldn't believe, even if it's the middle of winter, which is supposed to be caused by iron deficiency. I can't go to the doctor though, because I have an insane phobia of needles, and I'm just not going to have a blood test done. So, any help? moreResolved Question: Do I have Iron deficiency?
Lately I've been getting light headed when I get up and the past few days I've had a lot of fatigue when I'm out playing sports. About an hour ago I got really dizzy, I felt really heavy, it was hard for me to walk, my muscles got really stiff and then I threw up but nothing came out. Right after that I started sweating and my pulse speed up and then it went back to normal a few minutes later. I'm a guy, 18, really athletic and I know when you get light headed with fatigue it can be a sign of Iron deficiency. So whats wrong with me and what should I do? moreResolved Question: Potassium-Deficiency or Anemia?
I posted a question earlier about bladder symptom relief... After doing some research, I discovered the real issue could be lack of potassium. I have been incredibly tired all the time, I've passed out, I get weak easily, my heart palpitates (even been to the ER for chest and heart pain) and I get light-headed and dizzy for the last month or so. However, all of these symptoms apply to anemia as well. Only difference is that bladder issues can arise with lack of potassium. Since I can't get in for an appointment until next week, what do you think? Should I begin vitamins with potassium, iron or both? I'm going to get blood work done once I go in but for now, I don't know if it's wise to try and supplement what I may not actually be missing. A few people have suggested already that either one could be causing all this. Any suggestions? moreResolved Question: How can i get a normal energy level?
My entire life I feel like I am missing out on it because of my chronic fatigue, I walk up a flight of stairs and I am ready to pass out. So bloodwork says that I have a low blood count, might have sickle cell trait (runs in the family) and I have iron deficiency anemia. I want to run and live and be attentive, but I am just so tired all the time. Please help me. I hate to exercize because I have no energy for it so that just adds to my fatigue. I also have high cholesterol and I am very slim. moreResolved Question: Why are my hands yellow?
I had my daughter almost 5 months ago. I had lost a lot of blood during labor (700ml). My GP had asked me to get blood work done. They had found I was iron deficient. She wants me to wait a couple weeks and have another test to see if I still have an iron deficiency. In the meantime, I am wondering if my yellow hands are a sign of deficiency as well? I'm also very tired, but that could be due to the fact I am a new mother. Just curious. Any help would be appreciated. I will ask my GP but unfortunately, she's not available at this time. moreResolved Question: What kind of long term effect is associated w/ this physical abuse?
The patient said her biological mother used to bang her (the patient's) head into walls and the refrigerator. This happened when the patient was 3 through 8. Then she was taken from the home, b/c she had iron-deficiency anemia, brought on by being deprived of food on a regular basis. Would the patient have a long-term effect, as an adult now, from having had her head banged against walls by her mother? I ask b/c she insisted she has no memory of doing certain things at work that led to her being let go. When they told her what she'd done, she literally had no memory of it. Something in her voice told me she wasn't lying. She was being transported by ambulance to the hospital for making an attempt on her life by cutting her throat. Not so deep she couldn't talk, but deep enough to be serious. BTW, she has absence mal seizures. We noted several that she had just when talking to us. I hope someone w/ more education than I can answer the question. Like a doctor or CNP. Or a trauma nurse. I'm a paramedic, but I just became one and have hardly any experience w/ treating patients at the paramedic level. It's a lot harder than at the EMT-B level. moreResolved Question: can stress cause an iron deficiency?
